You rarely see them, but when you do, what are they doing?

Today I was driving on the highway (kosoku), not for the first time, seeing 2 patrol cars cruising along at about 100/kph. The speed limit is 80. As always, other drivers just can't take it anymore and speed by them without consequence. I finally did it myself today after fallowing a patrol car for a few kilometers I passed doing 120 km/hr. No problem!

I don't know how it is in your country (exept you J-peeps) but if i passed a speeding cop in the U.S. I would never ever never get away with this. I would in fact, be sure to see a giant grin in my rearview mirror as the officer turns on his lights to stop me for so blatently breaking the law infront of him.

But it's not just out on the kosoku (highway)..do J-cops actually do anything besides amakurari into posh retirement possitions?

Sometimes you just gotta love Japan!!

Nothing!! I went to the police station here about changing my licence details (which you can do instead of going to the licence office). Basically they got pissed off and told me to come back another day. What the f##k! Guess they didn't like being disturbed from sitting on their fat ar#es smoking and drinking coffee. But yeah good question Kintaro

WHAT DO J-POLICE DO?

They are a constant source of aggravation due to lack of balls. mad.gif

Busy doing something?? Such as/like what??

I've got idea's but would love to hear yours too!

I think the police in Japan might be:

1- checking out the newest portable DVD players along with the latest porn flick (most likely guess).

2- Looking out for the REAL trouble makers. NOT fooling around with the irritating but harmless bosozoku, yakuza, speed demons, chikan perverts, right wing loud speaker vans, extortionists, prostitutionists, human traffickers, pedophile rings and gambling dens.

3- Looking for a pot hole in the road so that an army of men can come and spend 6 weeks and the fiscal GDP of Guam to fix it.

Who knows! they might just be actually doing something extremeley useful.

They just flagged (literally with a big red flag) my mate over for driving without a seatbelt. He had to go into a special bus to give his details. Clearly a carefully planned operation.

Maybe they spend their time practicing and carrying out stuff like this?

Yes they spend their time doing worthless stuff like connackers said, as well as 30 police manning the not so random breath tests. Their main job seems to be hassling people on bikes.

In Australia you go 2-3km over the speed limit you will get pulled over and fined or your pic taken by the camera.

Japan is good. I just wish that they would enforce the kids to wear seatbelts.

Sometimes I feel some of you guys go round studying what police/ski patrol/authorities do all day every day.

;\)

(I'd hate to think what someone some parts of the day would think I was doing at work lol.gif )

You only have to live here for a short while to work out that they don't really do anything until a serious offense or accident has occurred.

How many people do you know who drink and drive here? (the blood alcohol content has to be zero) The speed limit is 40 but the accepted speed limit is 60. Happy for this as I get a car next week. I just hope it can reach 60 kms per hour!! lol.gif

Well, I like it in a way cause I think my state in Australia has become a police-state. But there are just some things which should be taken care of. Indosnm pointed out an important one. Bosuzoku ruling the road seems like the police shifty.gif have no power. shifty.gif

Actually I want one thing and quite possibly it can't even be done by the police.

The boys in Tokyo should create noise pollution laws aimed at delivery trucks and their annoying slogans when they park...and then there is the Socialist Party....
