frannyo 2
Nice pics, soubriquet http://www.snowjapan.com/e/insider/photo.php?userid=soubriquet It will be cool if we get tons of photos on that section to get a good idea of what places are really like.
soubriquet 0
Thanks Frannyo. I have a bunch more, all year photos, and I'll put them up over time. Of course, with winter coming, I'll out and about with my camera
Fattwins 0
what are those places like?
merryJim 1
Yeah, I put some up last night of Ryuoo in summer and Iwappara in winter ( here ). Great idea, it will be excellent if a whole big library of pics develops on that section. Top idea. I'll be taking pics this coming season.
soubriquet 0
They are worth a visit. I'm sure something could be arranged.
HoTRoD 2
Good to see pics of other places. the system until recently of uploading pics wasn't very easy and a lot of hassle, this new thing looks much smoother I'm sure people will use it a good thing.
echineko 1
I like yuour pictures soubriquet. Also I never went those places it is nice to see it.
advantyper 0
Looks pretty nice place to try out.. how far is Yamagata from Tokyo or Osaka?
soubriquet 0
Yamagata is 300km from Tokyo (3 hours by Shinkansen) , and 600 from Osaka.
kkk 7
You have some really nice pictures there soubriquet. Good to see an area I've never been to. Keep them coming.
I'm Sexy 0
When I see like this I notice how so many places to go that I never been before. This year I hope to travel new places more. Yamagata looks nice.
advantyper 0
That means its going to take 6 hours from Osaka, oh well, looks like I have pass in Feb, but how long from Nagano to Yamagata? Tks
soubriquet 0
It's about 300km. Time would depend on scheduling. You'll probably have to change trains at Niigata, and it will be a normal train. The Shinakansen doesn't take that route.
gamera 0
Shinkansen also can work, soubriquet? Nagano-->Ohmiya-->Yamagata
soubriquet 0
Man, that's about 600km It doesn't really help either, because the Tsubasa runs on standard track once it leaves Fukushima, and at normal speeds. Winding up and down through the snowy mountains is a great trip, but it's slow. So it doesn't matter which way you get to Yamagata by train, it won't be fast. Think of it as a reality adjustment, part of the Tohoku thing. Edit: it's 450km, and would be the best way. Oops, must have been taking too much reality adjustment..
sunrise 0
Yes, really nice pics. That vertical rock cliff with the autumn trees and stream is my favourite. I love the view from the temple too. Merry's' are nice too.
advantyper 0
Hmm.. tempting... maybe I'll stop by there after Nagano. Anyone got any good ski resort or hotel to recommend? Tks
SKI 15
Yes nice photos soubriquet. You live up there I presume (never heard of Oishida)?
soubriquet 0
advantyper: you can get a pension in Zao for about 5,000 Yen per night with breakfast. These are family run places, so service will be good. If you have a big group, there are also lodges (self catering, cheap). If you are serious, I can put up some information. It will be in Japanese, but they have photos and prices. If you are really serious, I don't mind doing a bit of legwork, but I'll need some details. Thanks everyone. I'm very pleased to put up some shots of Tohoku, and I'm glad you like them. It really is a lovely place to live, as long as you don't mind mountains and snow
fukdane 2
I've stayed at Lodge Scole as well which is right by Zao, you can find it on here, http://www.snowjapan.com/e/hotel/index-yamagata.html
soubriquet 0
Ski: Oishida is a small town about 30km north of Yamagata. When I stand on the top of Gassan, I can see from the Sea of Japan to the Pacific.
Ocean11 0
Have you tried urinating into each sea in turn?
soubriquet 0
I've pissed in the Pacific, but not the Sea Of Japan. And not from Gassan. There again, I've pissed in Mogami gawa, and that goes west.
Ocean11 0
Hopefully after tomorrow I'll still be able to piss where I aim rather than just have it all leak out onto my shoes...
