I'm just saying that on 1 days experience though. They look busy and are expensive. Go even further north to the very top of Gifu and try HidaNagareha Deepest snow in Gifu and great trees. Just watch out for the patrol. They like catching gaijin and are getting good at it.
Fattwins 0
takasu wont try to catch you.
kintaro 0
I have to say the day I boarded Takasu I was impressed with the music but not with the crowded runs (I think it was a weekend w/ lots of fresh pow). And from the lift, I can't forget the image of looking down and seeing some kind of deer/bear looking animal. The loud speaker announced that we all would be wise to stay away from it. mattlucas 0
Probably a Kamoshika
Fattwins 0
i dont ski there on weekends and I dont ski the courses
mina2 6
Couldn't the loudspeaker just say "boo" to frighten it away.
mattlucas 0
They are really docile animals Almost tame Is there anything that eats them?
Fattwins 0
its too used to the speakers.
peteroberts77 0
cheers for the replies..is there anywhere that stays reasonably uncrowded on the weekends? dont mind driving a bit further to avoid the masses...
mattlucas 0
Never lines at the place I said HidaNagareha I've always just skied right onto the lifts. Even on the deepest of days But you're looking at 2-3 extra hours past Takasu depending on the conditions
Fattwins 0
in the summer its an easy drive. in the winter it could get icy. lots of hills to navigate. plus when you comeback youll have to fight the traffic jam. the tokaihokuriku is the worst for jams after sking. untill the highway has more than 2 lanes I like to be on that highway no later than 3;
mattlucas 0
But if you were skiing up in the north at HidaNagreha and are taking the expressway. By the time your day is done and after an onsen it's 5. You won't hit the traffic until 7 or 8 when you might be getting just the tail end right? You could always come up Route 41. Probably take 3-4 hours from downtown Gifu city in Winter as you don't get snow until just near Takayama and even then it's not bad until near the ski hill. It's a low elevation road except for 1 little pass you have to go over.
Fattwins 0
dude a saturday jam runs till 10 or 11ish. a sunday prety much the same or worse. the bottom road is about the same although you get your jam for free. If another section of the highway is opened this year it will help things pout a bit.
mattlucas 0
No no 41 comes right up the middle of the prefecture Not so bad at all In the winter it would be much better cause you stay down low in the valley bottoms You just have to watch out for lunatic truck drivers like we both learned on our way to Tateyama
Fattwins 0
but doesnt that turn into the 157?
mattlucas 0
Nope And it's 158 158 goes into central Nagano Kind of runs East/West 41 goes North/South
rach 1
If I'm in Gifu I usually wait until late evening to start back, it can get real busy.
Fattwins 0
but from nagoya there is only one way no?
mattlucas 0
I'm not sure on that But if you get off in Gifu you can get on to 41 41 may even go right in to Nagoya. I'm not sure. I've only been south of Hida like 3 times
Fattwins 0
yeah but then you hit the same roads that jam coming out of the takasu areas. another way is to somehow get over to the chuo
peterson 0
I just come back late to try and avoid all this. I hate traffic queues..... and ones on expressways where you're actually paying at the worst of the lot!
