Dunga 1
I've got a $30 (¥2600) rice cooker from Aldi that works well. But then again I'm no rice expert...
Chriselle 158
Wonder if you could tell in a taste test. Or perhaps I should say a Japanese person could. MOST DEFINITELY....according to my wife.. Me...I'm skeptical....
Tubby Beaver 209
I have a pot that cooks rice just fine......the only thing a rice cooker is good for is that u can set it up and then forget about it until it's done.
gnarly-dude 1
Well, no, it's good for a lot of things. Just because you don't use it for them (or don't know about them), don't mean it's useless.
yoroshiku onegai shimasu 2
I think rice cookers are great. Make loads of different stuff in mine, always done to perfection.

Alexander L 80
Good job they make appliances other than rice cookers for those everyday tasks like baking.
Tubby Beaver 209
Well for u Thurs, those "appliances" are called house staff
pie-eater 207
My advice is to use rice cooker if you want to take advantage of its various functions, and to not use one if you don't. As a side note, I think Shinzo Abe almost certainly uses a rice cooker, and so it sounds like a jolly good idea to me.
Alexander L 80
You might like to watch this for a bit more insight and just how important the rice cooker is to the world. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9KbRRHRbprU and a load of cooking ideas.

snowdude 44
Ours cost about 35000 yen when we bought it five years ago. It uses pressure induction heating has a thick gold teflon bowl and do you know what rice from that does not taste any bettet than from a cheap one. It is all a big con. But having more expensive rice cooker means you have more functions to be able to cook diferent types of rice in different ways. The biggest taste difference is in the water and rice. Niigata koshihikari rice cooked using Niigata water tastes delicious even when coked in an old crappy rice cooker. The same rice cooked in Yamanashi water did not taste as good dispite us having a really good rice cooker. Yamanashi Koshihikari brand of rice cooked in our water is really tasty. Tubby Beaver 209
I couldn't tell the difference in rice......it all tastes the same blandness to me

DumbStick 13
I can't really tell much difference. Then again, my other half can't work out Heinz Tomato Ketchup with some crappy stuff from here. Or good cheese. Or chocolate. Which I find odd.
Chriselle 158
Or DECENT bread.....!! Brown bread here is just white bread with food coloring....
Tubby Beaver 209
Yeah, bread here sucks balls. I miss a good granary loaf of bread
@tokyo 14
Hmmm don't know, I have a few places I go to that offer some fine bread. And lots of interesting not to be found elsewhere varieties as well.
Chriselle 158
Ya...you can go seek it out but I miss just going to the supermarket back home and getting that nutty, seedy, grainy whole wheat goodness bread.
Tubby Beaver 209
yeah that's what I mean. I know of some good bakers that do a great crusty white loaf......but finding one that does a good granary loaf is difficult. Bread from the supermarket is absolute crud
Saitaman 1
Can't get sweet miso bread back home! Or even natto bread!
