JA2340 16
Oooooh! Hit a nerve, did that!
Chriselle 158
Haha....no but, saying "hit a nerve" .... HITS a nerve!
Go Native 70
We got most of our furniture from ニトリ. We ordered it online and they delivered and set it up for us. We got some nice leather couches for the living area.
grungy-gonads 54
Nitori wouldn't know black walnut if it hit them on the head and then introduced itself.
pie-eater 207
Class almost always comes naturally, can't be learnt or bought. Which is actually a good thing, really.
Go Native 70
Who cares about 'class'? Is that some sort of British thing?
pie-eater 207
Hmmm, no don't think so. One of those things, those who ain't got it need to ask what it is. I wouldn't worry about it.
Go Native 70
Is that something like people who claim to have class are just fcuckin wankers?
pie-eater 207
Don't know. But people with no class often choose rubbish cheap furniture, that's for sure.
Go Native 70
Maybe people who aren't materialistic tossers just buy for function rather than some silly illusion of class?
pie-eater 207
Absolutely!
Tubby Beaver 209
We got out double bed and kitchen table from Nitori, nice enough. Sofa and other stuff from IKEA. Although handmade walnut tables are undoubtably good looking, I don't have the money to justify spunking so much on a table. Whatever, horses for courses
Go Native 70
Careful tubby. You wouldn't want to offend the class police!!
pie-eater 207
It would probably help though if you actually understood what was being said! ;)
Chriselle 158
I'm a middle-lower class pseudo intelectual clod.... Trying to keep up though Pies...
pie-eater 207
Anyone called naninani-elle has to have oodles of class! Not that it matters of course.
Chriselle 158
Yes,...I have noodles of class..that's for sure.
pie-eater 207
Back on topic. Walnut is lovely but does need lots of pie and beer vouchers. Is black walnut the same as walnut or are they different varieties?
Chriselle 158
It's all the same as far as I know. Somebody will probably look it up and tell me I'm wrong. But, back in Canada at the lumber yard it's just walnut...some heartwood is darker than others but it's all mixed together.
muikabochi 208
Do the nuts grow on the trees?
Chriselle 158
I think so but I don't think North American black walnut is grown for nut production.
NoFakie 45
Found a company called Masterwal that specialise in black walnut furniture. Beautiful stuff. Check them out Mr Wiggles. Damn, wish I hadn't!! I like their sofas, especially the caramel leather one. At 500,000 yen though, the three seater is five times the cost of our three sofas added together. We've had them from way back when we used to rent and I don't suppose we'll be changing them any time soon. We got them at Noce. Their designs are funkier than Nitori, but fairly similar prices. Regular walnut (think classic car dashboard) is more of an oak colour, so I think black walnut is a different species from North America. If anything, the luxurious grain is more visible with the regular stuff, but the black one is naturally dark without staining. fwiw walnut trees secrete some kind of nastiness from their roots that stops many plants growing near them. Karnidge 2
Is the Japanese for both くるみ?
Tubby Beaver 209
Black walnut is in fact native to north eastern Nth America. It can in fact produce edible nuts but they are difficult to cultivate commercially so they are rarely used. For all you nut lovers out there, walnuts that we eat are usually from the English Walnut tree or as it's otherwise known, the Persian Walnut .....or hybrids thereof. Alexander L 80
It's all the same as far as I know. Somebody will probably look it up and tell me I'm wrong. But, back in Canada at the lumber yard it's just walnut...some heartwood is darker than others but it's all mixed together. You're wrong. I didn't look anything up, you're just wrong. Deal with it.
