bikertom 0
Last year I went snowboarding pretty much every weekend... I mainly just bounced around checking resort after resort. The problem I barely remember any of the resorts I hit... this year I would like to narrow my focus so I can learn the resorts. I'd appreciate recommendations for Nagano, Niigata, or Gifu. I like powder, moguls, parks, off-piste, back country and speed Thanks,
griller 9
You might get a better response if you made your topic subject a bit clearer than just Recommendations, bikertom!
muikabochi 208
Are you going to be driving or relying on public transport?
bikertom 0
@Griller, hmm I think you are right, way too vague... I can't seem to edit or delete this topic though. I will try and be more specific in the future. @muikabochi - Driving

Tubby Beaver 209
Kagura in Yuzawa ticks all your boxes
muikabochi 208
This area, I would say I like powder >>> Kagura, Gala Yuzawa and actually lots of places after a 80cm dump moguls >>> Muikamachi Hakkaisan parks >>> perhaps Kandatsu Kogen or Gala Yuzawa off-piste, back country >>> Kagura speed >>> Muikamachi Hakkaisan
bikertom 0
Thanks ! It seems like Yuzawa is the place to be, I hit Kagura at the beginning of each season (but never really went back after that), and I know I have been to Gala a few times... but I don't remember it at all... In past years I think I prefered closer to Tokyo places, but it's really not that much farther.
Tubby Beaver 209
You can hit Gunma but you really need your own transport, public transport to their isn't that great. Yuzawa area is just so convienient by shink that I spend most of my time up there
joshnii 2
Make sure you do check out Hakkaisan for moguls if you like them. You'll be fed up of them by the time you leave. Good thing is though that you can enjoy that place even if you don't like them as there are alternative routes.
bikertom 0
Will definately have to spend a day in mogul heaven! @Tubbybeaverinho -> Where in Gunma do you recommend (I have a car so transportation is not an issue).
joshnii 2
How do you fancy this bikertom? http://www.snowjapanforums.com/index.php/topic/19986-tanigawa-tenjindaira-gunma-16th-february-2011/
bikertom 0
AHH! That's the place, I went there.. I loved it... I went with a friend last year, but I couldn't remember where it was. He just put the telephone number for the ski-jo in my Navi... and I drove... I have to go back there!
Tubby Beaver 209
kawaba, Tenjindaira, Marunuma is ok as well........TBH I'd rather just drive to the next IC and go to Yuzawa instead
Slippery Jim 65
Oze Iwakura is pretty good, especially trees on the backside. Nothing radical but it has the altitude to keep snow in good shape.
Tubby Beaver 209
yeah Iwakura is a decent place to go to as well
Kansaiash 6
Is there any love for Gifu? I'm in Kyoto so most of these places are a bit too far for a day trip. I'm hoping to get up to Nagano and Niigata for a couple of weekend trips this season but can you recommend anywhere in Gifu?
muikabochi 208
Not been Kansaiash, but I certainly plan to this coming winter.
