muikabochi 208
End of world nigh Japan's defence minister has ordered missile units to intercept a rocket expected to be launched by North Korea next month if it or its fragments threaten to hit Japan. The order from the defence minister, Naoki Tanaka, came on Friday at a meeting of Japan's national security council. It followed instructions issued earlier in the week for the military to prepare to intercept the rocket if it enters Japanese territory. The Unha-3 rocket is expected to fly past western Japan after its launch from North Korea's west coast sometime between 12 and 16 April. The plan has raised concerns that a failed launch, or a falling stage of the rocket, could endanger Japanese lives or property. The chief cabinet secretary, Osamu Fujimura, urged people to stay calm, saying the military is preparing "just in case".

Karnidge 2
It has been suggested by analysts that, in order to save face, North Korea will either claim to its domestic audience that the launch was a success and that its Bright Star 3 satellite is in orbit, or it could claim that its enemies had shot the rocket down. Oh dear.
hellyer 216
I like this guys reporting style. some humorous tweets at the bottom also Don't mention the warhead: Rocket not North Korea's only failure By Chris Paine April 13, 2012 11:47AM Kim-Jong Un's misfire was a Friday the 13th failure. Picture: AP THE North Koreans know how to team a safari suit with a pair of snappy aviators. Military technology? Not so much. This was Kim-Jon Un's first major test as North Korea's leader, and perhaps unwisely he tempted fate by picking Friday the 13th for his launch date. News reports claim the missile broke up shortly after it launched, in a serious misfire for the North Koreans. South Korean officials say the Unha-3 three-stage rocket disintegrated shortly after blast off, at 7:39am local time. The Tongch'ang-ni Launch Facility on North Korea's northwest coast. "A few minutes after the launch, the rocket disintegrated into several pieces and lost its altitude," defence ministry spokesman Kim Min-Seok told journalists. This was supposed to be an opportunity for Kim-Jong Un to flex his international muscle, nearly five months into his reign as leader. It did not go according to plan for the man with the plastic-surgery-crafted double chin. That's right: plastic surgery. Double chin. North Korea's growing nuclear presence has prompted fear from their neighbours and leading Western nations, who are now breathing a collective sigh of relief. Countdown ... the Unha-3 rocket Tangachai-Ri Space Centre The rocket took off from a new launch facility in the country's northwest corner and flew south over the Yellow Sea on a path toward Japan's Ryuku Islands, the Philippines, Indonesia and Australia, The Wall Street Journal reported. There was no word in Pyongyang about the launch, its third attempt to send a satellite into space since 1998. Our colleagues in Darwin certainly weren't concerned, issuing this "warning" on Twitter earlier this morning. ATTENTION: ANYONE CAMPING IN THE NT. NTH KOREA HAS LAUNCHED THEIR 'SATELLITE'. MIGHT BE A GOOD TIME TO PUT THE FLY ON THE TENT. While we're talking 140 characters at a time, North Korea's projectile dysfunction has become the laughing stock of The Internet. Kim Jong-doh. But the whole sorry mess would not be complete without a good Kim Kardashian pun. Presenting: US officials: North Korea rocket broke up after launch, much like Kim Kardashian’s marriage. US officials later apologized to Ms Kardashian When Kim-Jong Un took the reins following the death of his father and former world record golfer last December, he likely would have sought to avoid embarrassing comparisons between his leadership and a celebrity's 72-day marriage. Perhaps it's just that kind of disaster.
