scouser 4
Lets see if we can beat last years thread. Enough of the silly World Cup. This is where the real footie talk goes on. The Premier League 2010/2011 season fixtures have just been announced. Liverpool vs Arsenal on the first day (might get to see that at Anfield), then Man City the next weekend! Opening weekend - Saturday, 14 August Aston Villa v West Ham Blackburn v Everton Blackpool v Wigan Bolton v Fulham Chelsea v West Brom Liverpool v Arsenal Man Utd v Newcastle Sunderland v Birmingham Tottenham v Man City Wolverhampton v Stoke Saturday, 21 August Arsenal v Blackpool Birmingham v Blackburn Everton v Wolverhampton Fulham v Man Utd Man City v Liverpool Newcastle v Aston Villa Stoke v Tottenham West Brom v Sunderland West Ham v Bolton Wigan v Chelsea Saturday, 28 August Aston Villa v Everton Blackburn v Arsenal Blackpool v Fulham Bolton v Birmingham Chelsea v Stoke Liverpool v West Brom Man Utd v West Ham Sunderland v Man City Tottenham v Wigan Wolverhampton v Newcastle Quote: Chelsea will begin the defence of their Premier League title with a home match against newly promoted West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, 14 August. Heavyweights Liverpool and Arsenal will meet at Anfield on the opening weekend. Last season's runners-up Manchester United face a mouth-watering home match with top-flight new boys Newcastle. Championship play-off winners Blackpool start at home to Wigan while Tottenham host Manchester City, who they edged out for fourth place last term. Elsewhere on the opening day of the 2010/11 season, Aston Villa face West Ham and Everton travel to Blackburn, while Sunderland are at home to Birmingham, Stoke visit Wolves and Bolton welcome Europa League runners-up Fulham. Chelsea's opener sees them come up against one of their former players in Albion manager Roberto Di Matteo. Next up for the champions will be a trip to Wigan, where they were beaten last season, before Stoke visit Stamford Bridge on 28 August. Carlo Ancelotti's title holders have to wait until 2 October for their first match against one of last season's top four clubs, when they face Arsenal at home, with the return fixture on Boxing Day. Chelsea host Manchester United on 18 December, with the two coming together at at Old Trafford on 7 May - the Blues' penultimate away fixture. Ian Holloway's Blackpool will know all about the rigours of the top flight by the time they travel to Old Trafford - the visit comes on the final day, giving them a tough end to the campaign on 22 May. grungy-gonads 54
Are there going to be any interesting transfers this summer? I suppose we will have to wait for the WC to end and agents bumping up prices of decent players. Having said that, with the way the 'stars' are playing at the moment... thursday 1
Dunno. Is it traditional to not stuff the other team on opening day? It's like the fans not packing 'cos of an unwritten agreement.

NoFakie 45
Last time Toon played at Old Trafford first game was 1-1. I'll take that again! Although we did go on to be relegated after assorted problems and howlers. I fully expect to get tonked this time. I think we could be bottom after three games. For the season, forty points will do me fine. Normally its bad to play promoted teams early on. They're normally really up for it. See Burnley last season and Hull the one before. Give it a couple of months and their squad will be creaking and they'll be on Plan D or E, if not fully making it up as they go along. Its funny to see the papers talking about Liverpool and ManYoo having massive debts and then still linking them with 20M+ players to fill the paper.
pie-eater 207
Good points. Yes funny about the papers. They really do talk utter bollocks most of the time don't they. And yes gg, it is a great ride! First drop is brilliant. I have heard it can be fairly rough though, but I have really enjoyed it every time I've been on it - probably 15 times. Grand National is still worth a ride too. NoFakie 45
If anyone is planning a holiday, don't cut it tight because Sky will move any game if they want. The polis may also shift games if another team has a home game within a ridiculous radius. It doesn't matter how many travelling fans have arranged transport or time off work. pie-eater 207
Definitely. I wonder how many of those original fixtures will get changed. Bastardos!
scouser 4
Hey pie-eater, that made me go and look at Blackpool Pleasure Beach info for some reason and I see that from last year you have to pay a fiver to get in now! Thats a real shocker. I wonder how that is working out. It sounds like a bad idea. Going in walking round the park and soaking up the atmosphere was one of the appealling things about that place, I bet loads of people did that. Same with the old fairground in Southport that they knocked down recently - they introduced an entry fee and numbers dropped off before it died. Not that it's something I do much but I went a fair few times when I was young.
pie-eater 207
Yes that was/is very controversial. They spent so many years boasting about them being the biggest free entertainment or whatever. Now you have to pay a fiver to get it. I bet its a fair bit quieter, but haven't been since that change came.

scouser 4
Just noticed this Manuel Pellegrini emerges as late contender for Liverpool post Manuel Pellegrini, the former Real Madrid coach, has emerged as a possible late contender for the vacant Liverpool post. The Chilean, dismissed after just one season at the Bernabéu despite garnering 96 points in the league, was reported to have met Kenny Dalglish at Heathrow on Thursday. Sources close to Pellegrini deny they have had any contact with the Anfield club, though it is thought his credentials for the position have been discussed by Liverpool’s board.
