I spoke with someone at JMB today and they said there was an official announcement 2 days ago that the restructuring won't affect miles, they'll remain the same. Assuming the airline keeps flying after bankruptcy of course!

Japan Airlines (JAL), Asia's biggest air carrier, has filed for bankruptcy protection, in one of the country's biggest corporate failures.

Some 15,000 jobs are expected to be cut. All board members have also voted to resign, according to Japanese media.

A state-backed turnaround organisation has said it plans to inject about 300bn yen ($3.3bn; £2bn) into JAL.

Japan's government says flights will continue as normal as the airline begins restructuring.

Perhaps both?

Terminal 5 looks nice, but tacked onto Heathrow, and the shambles that is terminal 1 (done it so many times that am embarrassed to fly into it), just seems like a white elephant.

Mmmmm. We have just started our planning of 2011. Travel Agents seem to be very reluctant to offer JAL flights. Several are offering flights with stop overs with other airlines which will add 4 days onto the flight travel. Panic set in so we started doing our own research and for us Flights out of Brisbane to Toyko 0762 seem to have been dropped. It is now a flight down to Sydney and then onto Toyko! We can go Jetstar of course to Osaka then get a connecting to Sapporo BUT Qantas code share with JAL out of Brisbane has also been dropped?? confused

Many JAL flights have been dropped or scheduled to be dropped within this year.

Unless you live near Narita, Korean Air is usually more convenient.

Direct flights from KIX are very limited now, I think only a handful of destinations in Europe are available.
