Good old cutting edge journalism from Mezamashi TV....(rolls eyes)

For those unfamiliar with this Japanese breakfast show, it is often a case of "275 dead after mudslides in Indonesia" followed a fraction of a second later by a much longer story along the lines of "but look at these cute little puppies", or a 10-minute tear-filled eulogy to some Japanese actor who has died of old age. They recently ran a piece wondering why Shinjuku had become more popular amongst 'weird' overseas visitors, but none of their researchers seemed to have worked out that the film "Lost in Translation" was mostly based there.

Anyway...I digress. Endaka's going to be a real problem for Japanese resorts catering to overseas skiiers & boarders, but it's just a symptom of the bigger problem, which is the credit crunch knocking off discretionary spending in the US, UK and other western countries. In the circumstances perhaps businesses in Niseko will switch their attention to arguably more logical sources of snow tourists - Korea, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
