Amos in Utsunomia 0
Sorry, just a lighthearted moment. Quite warm these last few days. Still early though.

gerard 6
Those early snowfalls were exciting but it's really too early to start watching the weather, dude. And what's with all of these people on other continents wanting to ski in Japan in October? Wait for it! Japan has four seasons (at least four). Get out there and enjoy the fall. I'm still trying to squeeze a couple more days out of summer.
thursday 1
Hey skiing in Japan in October would be great. Anywhere to suggest Ger?

Mike Pow 52
Snow fell on Yotei on 24 September and it's remained ever since. Autumn in the valley is turning spectacular. My two favourite seasons
@tokyo 14
Same here. The best two by far.
Go Native 70
Asahidake looks like it has enough snow for skiing at the moment if you don't mind earning your turns.
Mike Pow 52
Not allowed. Otherwise I'd be up there
Tubby Beaver 209
what do you mean..."not allowed"?
coldcat 0
It's forbidden in order to protect the plants that grow there. You can only ski or board during the winter months. At least that's what I read on their website a while ago.
Tubby Beaver 209
so what would happen if you actually did ride it? Presumably you are allowed to hike etc during the non-snow months
Mike Pow 52
You can hike, but if someone sees you carrying skis up or skiing you'll get your arse kicked. How hard I don't know.

NoFakie 45
It was down below 5C in Hakuba early this morning. It's a corker today mind. Time to hit the mountain if you can.
andders 0
Excellent. I'm going this weekend.
Tubby Beaver 209
Beauty of a day today huh? It was 28 degrees at 4pm down in Kanagawa, according to the giant Digital Display near to Ofuna Station
RobBright 35
How about the one outside Fujisawa TB?
Tubby Beaver 209
The one on the factory wall facing the train line? Dunno, I don't usually see that one cos its on the opposite side of the train that lets you off at Fuj station, but its usually a couple of degrees higher than the Ofuna one for some reason. Slippery Jim 65
What about the various natural indicators of what kind of winter it will be: density of moss, height of sassa grass, bug population, preying mantis eggs, etc. Anybody conversant and observant?
Mike Pow 52
Abundance of big moths and Yuki Mushi (sp) in the Niseko Resort Area. Both portents for serious dumpage apparently.
Greenroome 0
If we get as many snowflakes as Yuki Mushi, we're in for a treat. After bike rides I've been picking those little suckers out of my teeth, nose, hair. I find that doing monster wheelies helps keep them out of your eyes a bit.
