thursday 1
you mean on the left of the pic? They're trees. And look at the Hirafu pic, not the Kiroro one
RobinsonAus 0
are you looking at the first pic on Niseko Now? I'm sure i can still see dirt...
RobinsonAus 0
Ok maybe that isn't dirt... but the snow definitely isn't as white as it should be in places...

Markie 0
Looking at the webcams this morning nearly all the Hokkaido webcams were showing lots of snow. All except Rusutsu which seems to only have a bit. But everywhere else up there looks like there is enough already on the ground to never see any green again till late Spring. And the snow forecasts support this view.
grungy-gonads 54
Is it not usual for there to be an "early snow" that melts away and there be a few weeks before the "real snow" starts. Perhaps thats a Niigata/Nagano thing.
muikabochi 208
Yes - it often happens like that in this area gg. We usually get some snow within November or early December which quickly melts away and it's a while before we get the start of the proper snow. I think there's a word for that, but can't quite remember it.
Ezorisu 0
Ahh... There was a nice 3-4CM's last night in Sapporo around 22:00, and a little still lingering around in the planter beds this morning on the way to work, but it's all melted now at lunchtime.
skidaisuki 0
Ezo, looks like the proper stuff is coming down now....
Mike Pow 52
Snowed all day today in Hirafu. Still coming down. Tomorrow's turns will be good
thursday 1
that Hirafu cam looks deep already. Man, this season is gonna be big.
skidaisuki 0
Yep - the cams in central Hokkaido (Asahikawa / Furano) have been iced up in some cases this morning. Plenty of white stuff. My main interest now is how much is going to fall in places like Kagura and Hakuba over the next week.
HelperElfMissy 42
I can't wait for someone to wipe the lens on the Ace#3!! See how much is on the ground!~ Serious case of jealously ... one of our travel group for Jan is hoping over there THIS weekend for a bit of business...so he is taking his board! Some people get all the fun!
thursday 1
it says over 40cm up top. It looks that much down the bottom, so I think it could be more on top.
Mike Pow 52
Posted on another thread. 25cm in the past 24hrs at village level (300m, outside my front door). 40cm in the past 24 hrs above the top of the Ace #2 Quad, Grand Hirafu (~900m) Bootpacked to ~ 900m. Couldn't go higher because it was too deep. Talking waist deep when I was walking/wallowing. Seeing as it's snowed constantly since Thursday above 600m it's hard to know where the snow from the past 24hrs starts. 40cm at the top of the mountain King #4 would be a very conservative measurement IMHO. skidaisuki 0
Mike...thanks for that. Hopefully there's been plenty more since then.
Ezorisu 0
Cold in Sapporo this morning - just below zero C. Flurries right now - should be fun walking to work...
Go Native 70
Looks like it's going to bucket down rain in the village for much of today. It should turn back to snow late in the day and then snow heavily overnight and tomorrow.
Go Native 70
Well it's currently puking down wet snow in the village, better than the rain I thought might happen. Still might be some rain later but overall probably a good thing to pack down and solidify the base.
thursday 1
it looks like a whiteout up there. Can't see the outside cos there's too much snow.
Ezorisu 0
Got warm after less than an hour, so it is now raining.
Go Native 70
Absolutely puking down in the village currently, it's wet but better than rain. Up top it should be awesome. Overnight it will get cold again and tomorrow should top us up with a fair amount of fresh dry snow.
