BettyBoo! 0
I suppose some of the guys and gals here live in the snow and so don't need to make a trip, but for the ones who have to travel within Japan how long do you go for? I can't see me wanting to do anything less than 4 days. It would be interesting to know how many nights lots of the people from overseas stay for?
soubriquet 0
When I had to travel to the snow, it was ususally 7 nights. FWIW, it took me about 5 days to learn to ski passably. That was with morning and afternoon lessons. I'd recommend at least five nights for your first trip if you want to get the skills to stick. Midweek skiing is very nice as things are usually uncrowded.
bushpig 0
other than popping up to the nearest mountains for day trips on weekends, I usually go for at least 10 days when I make a trip out of it
giggsy 0
I'd want at least 10 days total.
soubriquet 0
Well, bettyboo's in Osaka. That's a bit more conveniently located than Manchester for shorter trips. Not as convenient as Oishida, mind.
Mantas 3
I usually go for a couple of weeks. This year i got 13 days on snow. I'd like to go for longer but the snow season is right in the middle of my busiest period at work. Also I'd like to go longer if the kids came too. Next year maybe,
SirJibAlot 0
For a short trip - an hour and a half on the shink, i'm home by dinner. For longer trips, Hokkaido is at least a long weekend - Hakuba is a weekend.
soubriquet 0
Err. I can see my nearst slope from the bedroom window. The closest place worth skiing is 20 minutes by car. 35 minutes is spiffing. All I have to do is roll out of bed and check the weather.
rach 1
At least 3 days anything less is totally not worth it. 5 or more is what I want.
kaiser soce 0
Mine are either a weekend or a 4 week stint.
XilR8 0
Mostly day trips, overnight bus out, arrive at 6am, board for the whole day, back home by 9pm.
snowboarding-sam 0
My trips are as long as I can make them generally. Which unfortunately is usually 3 days. I'd love to have some 5 days trips and am hoping to work some of them round into next season.
veronica 2
I won't do day trips, it would be a huge effort. I need to stay over and a 2 night stay is the shortest I'll contemplate.
2pints-mate 0
As I have to travel, a week is the minimum.
Go Native 70
Originally Posted By: BettyBoo! It would be interesting to know how many nights lots of the people from overseas stay for? Here in Niseko most foreigners come for a minimum of 7 nights. Most western accommodation here will only accept a min 7 night stay during peak periods (xmas/New Year and Cninese New Year). Through Jan/Feb they are reluctant to take shorter than 7 night bookings unless it fills a gap. Foreign skiers are generally much more profitable than local ones. Longer stays mean less changeovers (less cleaning and work) so more profit for the owners. Plus on the whole I think foreigners spend more at local restaurants and certainly at local bars. HoTRoD 2
Well I can comfortable do a day trip, but I prefer not to do the rush huge day thing and stay a couple of nights.
ausi ski bum 1
I did 14 days at Niseko last season followed by a 10 day tour and next seasn I will be staying for 20 days. Locally (Aust) I go to the mountain most weekends in season and one 7 to 9 day stay but I own the apartment so its pretty easy. I tend to use it weekends and rent it weekdays. Will be back this weekend

BettyBoo! 0
The travel seems to be an expensive part. I'm planning my first trip now and going for 4 nights I think.

merryJim 1
At least 3 days. Having said that I don't particularly want over 6 days - I get too tired!!
its-a-clock 0
A week is too long for me as well. Perfect would be about 4-5 days, all with snow falling night time and a fresh 20-30cm waiting for the first lift.
Error404 0
My ski trips are a 2 hours drive away so I could and do sometimes have day trips but they are tiring. I don't see much benefit in a 1 night stay either, so my besto chansu is a 3 or 4 night stay with 3 or 4 days on the slopes.
