Righto I have had a look and still not sure what site to use. I downloaded the client from bittorrent.com but the selcetion of things they have is pretty small, unless I am looking in the wrong place. Also had a look on Earth Reactor or something, and can`t seem top work it out, LOADS of links to rubbish but can`t seem to find how to download stuff.

Basically I want to get sports and some things from BBC, natural history docus etc. So if anyone has any reccomendations on an EASY to use site that`s navigable.

In order to be able to dwl from earthractor, you need to instal first the emule client. The bittorrent doesnt work good with that site. There is a link to emule and some explanations on the ER page.

Also check the forums of the ER, lots of info there.

Depending on what your looking for, Isohunt.com, Thepiratebay.org, and RevolutionTT.net are excellent along with the bittorrent client Azureus for PC/MAC.

RevolutionTT is an invite only service so you need to be reffered from an existing user. I have 3 invites that I can give up if anyone wants one. Constantly updated with new items from many categories and easy to navigate. You need to stay active with the site since they kick off both dormant users and also HIT and RUN users.

I use it for my xbox360 needs and movies all the time.

"Righto I have had a look and still not sure what site to use."

dude seriously there are 1000's of sites, the best sites by far are member sites, you have to share and keep your ratios but they are much much better.

pirate bay, Mininova are free sites and youcan find a lot of comon stuff, but it slow (too many hit and runners) and you wont often find specialised stuff like Rugby League.

the official bittorrent client is rubbish. uninstall it and get utorrent - its the most universally accepted and light on resources and isnt banned on member sites ( many clients (like Bitcomet) are banned on member sites as they are dishonest in they way the share and report data to the tracker. Azureus is also good, its a fully featured client.

Selection at bittorrent? all the stuff you want is elsewhere on the 1000's of torrent sites.

sports - rugby, League, cricket etc you can get from Diwana.org (aussie and NZ stuff ples lots of world rugby) and Demonoid.com (everything), they are both member sites but have nearly all you need.

Aussietorrents.com is a good forum which lists places to get sports torrents and almost all are to be found on those 2 sites.

You have to share or you get booted, give back as much as you download and you will be fine.

isohunt or btjunkie (it searches through a other torrent sites for you) is good for when everything else lets you down.

Uknova has everything British but its hard to join, they periodically clear unused accounts or bad users so keeep trying each day and eventually you will get in.

Sahre or get booted from that site too.

there are many other dedicated torrent sites

ones for MMA stuff, ones for everything motor racing, ones for just TV shows etc

edit: clear thing up - bit torrent is a protocol for information transfer its not a software.

There are "clients" like utorrent Azureus and the official Bittorrent client (which has been massively improved on by computer geeks.)

There are torrent websites which host the actual torrents - small files which hold the blueprint of the original files and there is the tracker which is an internet url which allows your client to connect to other clients on the internet who are also trying to get that original file, only members of can access private trackers.

Seeds have the full files peers or leechers are trying get it.

The more seeds the faster you get stuff.

Leechers can share "bits" they have downloaded with other leechers and vice versa so you get stuff fast as everyone is sharing from the word go unlike p2p like limewire where only seeds share.

ok, so i'm new to this whole torrent thing and am confused as all hell. it seems like this impenetrable wall of stuff i can't understand.

anyway, i've got a mac and am using azureus. i've got no probs downloading music and importing it to itunes, but what sort of conveter program do i need to view movies. any movies i download (even quicktime format ones) won't play on my computer. apologies if these questions are incredibly basic.

oh yeah, and once i get into this whole torrent thing, how do i then share stuff, as oppossed to be a hit and run user?

You need to get VLC from www.videolan.org - it will play everything on your Mac (there is a windoze version too).

To share stuff, the easiest way is to leave the bit torrent application running after your download is complete so you are uploading as much as - or more - than you are downloading. If you stop a download as soon as its complete, you may not have shared it enough. Most BT clients show you your upload/download info so you know where you stand. Some trackers will ban you if you do not share enough. You may also want to change your client setting to allow you to upload at a faster rate - the more you upload, the faster you download in most cases.

Another 'must have' application is UNRARX (google it) on the Mac - it will allow you to expand the strange .rar compressed files that can't be opened with Stuffit Expander. Windoze users need to be warned that behind many .rar files are many viruses/malware - but Macs are immune...

What's a good one for Mac software? I seem to notice a lack of it one the above two mentioned.
Azureus is the best for Mac.

Aussietorrents.com
diwana.org
Demonoid.com
Mininova are all the sites I use.

first 2 are invite only ( I have heaps)
Demonoid is not always open for registration
and mininova is good but make sure you read the comments b4 DL'ing.

Bushpig,

The way I think to do it is to DL the move you want in only English and then go to that site that has like every language for every film available. Can't remember the name but with some searching it should be easy to find.

The same place also has the CD and package pictures if you wanna print them up and make them all spiffy.
