soubriquet 0
Hmm, lets see. Sewage pipes, buried; water pipes, buried; gas pipes, buried. I've yet to hear an argument that they should all be suspended above ground on poles because of risk of earthquake damage. The power lines in the centre of Sendai are buried, and that's a high risk area for earthquakes. Looks nice and tidy though.
big-will 7
Can you imagine above ground see through sewage pipes.
r45 4
How come Sendai has power lines buried?
soubriquet 0
To protect them from earthquake damage...
Fattwins 0
where have you seen buried gas in japan its canisters at the side of your house for the most part.
soubriquet 0
Yamagata city has piped gas, so I am told. I was surprised at this, but apparently it is so. One of life's great Truths is that when soubriquette and I have a disagreement, she is always right, and I'm always wrong. I've learned not to argue
bushpig 0
yeah new areas do have piped gas FT. Quite a few areas of Hiroshima have it.
veronica 2
How come if places like Sendai and Hiroshima do things like this it is not more of a talking point or issue? (or is it?) I do with some of those lines weren't often it just totally spoils the looks of a place.
bushpig 0
it's only the newer places that get it and not even always then V. And I think it just isn't on most Japanese peoples radar, that's all.
akibun 0
I don't notice it but I am used to it. I did notice that there were no lines in overseas place I went. It looked good without the line.
Experiment IV 0
Sendai looked good when I was there. What was different didn't click until someone pointed it out to me, then it was obvious.
