Curt 1
Americans know more about The Simpsons TV show than the US Constitution's First Amendment, an opinion poll says. Only one in four could name more than one of the five freedoms it upholds but more than half could name at least two members of the cartoon family. About one in five thought the right to own a pet was one of the freedoms. A new museum dedicated to the First Amendment said the findings showed there was a pressing need to explain one of America's basic laws better. "We have our job cut out for us," said Joe Madeira, director of exhibitions at the McCormick Tribune Freedom Museum. Another finding from the poll, a telephone survey of 1,000 random adults with an error margin of 3%, was that 22% of Americans could name all five Simpson characters. By comparison, just one in 1,000 people could name all five First Amendment freedoms. The names of American Idol TV show judges and popular advertising slogans also proved more memorable than the five freedoms - speech, religion, press, assembly and petition for redress of grievances. ------------- Anyone seen any recent Simpsons by the way? How do they compare with earlier classic stuff?
ncorrenti 0
New Simpsons is okay, the old stuff will always be better though.
sava 0
The new ones are just too weird. Kind of depressing about the first amendment knowledge (or lack of)
BagOfCrisps 24
Too weird and just silly. They just got more and more outlandish. At least the earlier ones kept 'real' to a certain extent.
Karnidge 2
They might not be as good but they still make you laugh.
number9 0
Haven't seen any new ones, would like to though. Smap knowledge probably trumps Constitution knowledge here, and NHL (and Simpsons) knowledge probably trumps Charter of Rights and Freedoms knowledge in Canada. Must be similar in Australia, yeah? 2pints-mate 0
Smap knowledge Sounds funny that. Is there a meaning to "Smap"?
bushpig 0
yeah, in Aus footy/rugby/cricket beats constitution knowledge for sure! Why is this such a big surprise about the simpsons?

uggggllllyyyy 0
There was a show in England a few years ago by that Michael Moore geezer. He did a survey which showed that 20% of americans couldn't find the USA on an atlas. Probably worse was that 7% couldnt find USA on a map of the USA. DOHHHHH!!!!!

JPchucky 0
Ofcourse! The American Gov. doesn't even follow the amendments, how is anyone to know? They're so vague that anyone can manipulate them into anything they want. Since the Patriot act the constitution has pretty much been thrown out the window.
