NoFakie 45
How much do you think petrol will cost by next winter? 130 odd yen around here at the moment.
sava 0
People have been talking about $AU1.50 per litre within a year, possibly by Feb... Currently it's at about $1.
miteyak 0
Currently it's $AU1.22 here, with another 7 cents predicted this week. I think It could be 1.50 by the end of October here in Tassie.
Ocean11 0
Is it wrong to actively hope for a proper oil shock?
sava 0
I don't think it's wrong at all, it will encourage more efficient use of the resources that we have which can only be a good thing. I see nothing wrong with having access to stuff, but waste is disgusting
miteyak 0
An oil shock would be the best thing to happen for the environment, so here's hoping...
kintaro 0
I'm not against capitalizing on the price of oil...any one else seeing some profits from the current environment? By the way, Ocean, probably the strangest place to air this but I couldn't find that old thread about ethical investments so let me highjack this thread for just a moment. 3 funds I've recently taken a look at that are "socially responsible" are the Calvert Social Investment Equity(CSIEX), TIAA-CREF Social Choice Equity (TCSCX), And the Vanguard Calvert Social Index (VCSIX). Siren 0
Did you? They sound like indices, not funds. How much are they charging all in?
kintaro 0
Yes, I did. I thought that was implied... Funds indeed. Sorry, but "charging all in" I don't know what that means.
Ocean11 0
Here's the thread. http://www.snowjapanforums.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php/topic/8/3683.html#000000 Admin, can we possibly move the last couple of posts over please? Kintaro, thanks for the heads up. Personally I prefer investing in something that has more far-reaching effects, even if it isn't necessarily most remunerative.
fjef 0
Although the fuel situation is looking bleak and could easily get much worse, I feel a bit better after getting just over 1,000km on my last tank of gas in the Prius...
soubriquet 0
So what's the consumption?
Ocean11 0
Does anybody remember the oil shocks of the 70s? About all I remember sitting on the bog when all the lights went out, and spending several evenings dining by candlelight when power cuts hit. Those oil shocks resulted in some remarkable advances in fuel efficiency.

soubriquet 0
Yes, I remember. I'd spent all summer working for an industrial removalists, moving all the tools of a heavy manufacturing company from a Dickensian factory into new premises. They'd borrowed heavily to fund the move, completed just as fuel prices went up and their market evaporated. Sad. They don't make cars like they used to, thank god. An 850 Mini, equipped with no more than lights, wipers and a heater, used to give me about 33mpg. Now, my Legacy techno wagon, loaded with gizmology to ensure my comfort and survival (excellent, I approve of that) gives me nearly the same.
NoFakie 45
I remember the power cuts of the 70s but thought they were due to the miners going on strike and depriving the power stations of coal. FWIW, Thatcher made sure they were huge stockpiles of coal before taking the miners on, some say in revenge for Heath, in the 80s. It was before the "dash for gas", so Britain was still burning lots of coal at the time. As for the original question, I reckon we'll see 155 yen by the end of the year. indosnm 0
When you fellas are talking about prices are you meaning regular or Hi Oc? Fjef, thats some pretty impressive mileage! I was getting 188km out of around 40 litres of Hi Oc. Now that I put a new ECU in getting round 160km per tank!
BagOfCrisps 24
130 yen? Thats like 65p, right? Seems way cheaper than here in the UK that.
soubriquet 0
Right Mr W, the power cuts were due to coal shortages. Industry was forced onto a three day week. IIRC, the power workers and dockers also played a part.
A lawyer 0
Yes it is Bag. How much is it over there now then?
gamera 0
It will give me much damage if it gets too expensive Need much to circulate hot water around the house to warm up the rooms
happyhappy 0
I was reading something the other day about prices in the UK - I think it has just gone above 90p a litre.

soubriquet 0
Kerosene for hot water and central heating.
gamera 0
Sava: No, as soubriquet says, it's for hot water and central heating so that we don't open the windown to ventilate any. No kerocine smell. I don't think people are happy if they need to open the window to do that at night in winter lol......
