Travelling alone in Japan
PWL replied to shadowtec's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Hi there. My Japan trip will soon (well, quite soon) become a reality. Just one interesting point I'd like to ask people on here about. I will be travelling alone. I'm a Yorkshire lass, in my early 20's. I hear many times that Japan is a safe country, but whats the reality? Am I going to be amazed at how comfortable I feel travelling alone, or a bit scared at this new and strange (to me!) country and it's people? Thanks for any advice! -
Only a warped mind....!

Things certainly seem to be warm in Japan now - any chance of a last snowfall or is that it for the season?

Interesting. As always. Thanks. How long are your poles then? That guy above looks like he's in some sweater catalogue.

I have a new question! Ski poles. Are they necessary? I saw something on tv with someone skiing very short skis and he wasn't using poles. But every other time I have seen people using them. I will be skiing for the first time in a couple of weeks. Can't wait! Thanks folks.

Well I am resigned to looking silly when I first get out there. Quite looking forward to it actually. The sillier the better! -
Resort busy-ness?

Again I have never experienced this but are there big queues of people waiting for lifts generally? I can imagine being a real nuisdance to everyone as a beginner and falling over when those lifts come up behind me. The pair lifts don't slow down, right? Perhaps I should stick to one of those that slows down! -
I might bravely try if when I get to Japan. Just so I can say I tried!

This is a funny thread.

Good stuff thanks folks! -
Even on cold days normally I get cold feet so I'm worried about my feet on the snow. What do you wear? Some special thermal socks or special ski socks or something? Thank you!

Quote: Google is your friend and a search on "right and left ski" turned up your answer, but then again, we like to chat on SJ, don't we? Is that sarcasm at the end there, and if so, why? I don't really understand why some people insist on posting things like this? Do you really think that people do not know about the existence of search engines and what they do? Of course I can find some info - and I did after I posted - but I was looking for more personal comments and that is why I posted here which I feel is a very friendly community..... is that ok? Thanks for the commen
