  1. I was in Niseko for February and found it just cold enough and I certainly couldn't complain about the snowfall. I know everyone carries on about the 05/06 season but Feb this year was pretty awesome.
  2. Morning expected 36oC here today. Wish I was back in Niseko hitting the slopes (this time last week I was).
  3. This is truly a sad event. We were in Niseko when Scott went missing. Our concern, as like others that perhaps he had slipped and head his head, or perhaps fallen in some deep snow and fallen asleep or snow falling off a roof?? Saturday and Sunday were not a pleasant days with high winds and lots of snow - blizzard conditions. There were Posters for Scott put up all around our hotel by Sunday and there were also posters posted around Niseko. I TRULY hope he is found safe and sound somewhere pe GN please keep us updated - THANKS
  4. Mr Snowhunter tried the sausage lollipop, Chocolate Banana, Some other exotic looking crab dish, takoyaki. I think he loved the food fest more than the Ice Festival
  5. I LOVE NISEKO. It has been snowing constantly and we are all having a total blast. Our friends are also now hooked. One question DOES IT STOP SNOWING
  6. Hey Matt Sorry to hear about your bad luck. Haven't you heard the old saying 2 weeks before a trip wrap yourselves in cotton wool and staying clear of any sick people. I wasn't allowed to ride the horses or go on my normal cross country runs for fear I would hurt myself. At least their insurance is going to cover them. I hope you have a good trip dispite your bad luck.
  7. EPIC Day skiing today with it puking down in Niseko. It has let up a little this evening but I will be up bright and early to hit the pow tomorrow. I reckon we have had about 20cm.
  8. Good luck with that!! We immediately told took the option of having an interpreter in the case of an accident to accompany us to the hospital. Hope everything is okay.
  9. My Boots got stolen from the restaurant. I was very Pissed off as they were an really expensive pair that I had bought for my trip to Japan and I had only bought 1 pair of shoes with me.
  10. Thanks for the reply Keba much appreciated. We leave this Sunday and of course have been slugged with the poor exchange rate. I knew we were going to find it way more expensive than last year but I think I had stuck my head in the sand a little bit. We will definitely have to limit ourselves this year and be more select when shopping and not eat out as much as we did last year.
  11. Sorry to hijack this thread - Keba are you talking general living ie food drinks etc. OR are you including ski passes etc?? We are hoping to live quite cheaply by buying everything at the co op in Kutchan. Hi Dusty, I have to agree with others as much as I love Japan maybe next year Canada might be the place to try. I would give Whistler a big miss because of the Winter Olympics, try Banff which gives you access to Lake Louise, Sunshine Village and Norquay. You can also take a trip up to Kicking Horse and Marmot. I think you will also find Canada will have a better exchange rate
  12. ratherb@thesnow should be arriving today I hope you have a good time and you get loads of POW.
  13. We will get to see the hollywood cuts just before we leave for Japan. Saw the Osmond last night. What about the 5'7" 16 yr old. There were some pretty good ones on last night.
  14. See that is the thing if you live near a ski resort you can pick and chose when you go. Bad snow don't go, Good snow Hit it. The problem for us ski lovers is that we have to work so many things around getting to the snow that if it is a bad season and we are booked TO BAD!! We can't just go okay they are having a great season LET'S GO!! I really think the Aus Ski Fields are going to feel the pinch this year. With Japan most of us were all booked and paid for months ago. BUT will we be able to afford to go next year?????????????????
  15. I agree G. I have been watching each episode and sometimes just cringe when some people who are obviously a bit special needs give what they think is a great performance (when really they should stick to singing in the shower)to have the judges laughing, saying they sound like a dog, are they a joke!!! Why can't they just say Thank you but you ar enot what we are looking for THEN once they have left HEY laugh your heads off if you want. As for the new judge YES she is very pretty but I think she is really FULL of her own importance. Still like watching Paula and checking if she is off
  16. I can't speak for it getting to Japan but I receive alot of USPS International Packages in Australia and I receive them within about 3-4 days. Even regular post sometimes only takes 1 week.
  17. Yeah GO I have often wondered about the weight thing. I way about 51kg so I reckon I should be allowed more baggage limit. I got stuck next to the MOST HORRENDOUS man ever from a flight from Queenstown to Gold Coast. He was so big he spilled into my seat, Had NEVER used deodorant, and coughed for the whole flight. Bonus of it the flight crew felt so sorry for me they gave me an endless supply of wine.
  18. Thanks guys have decided to take my valium without a vodka shot. I know last year we only had a 260cm base and this year it is 330cm base. I wouldn't care if it was just me GOD one day of snow fall and I am a happy camper. I am just stressing because of everyone coming with us. AH YES but on the other hand they don't know what a good season is in Japan so HEY its gonna be ALL GOOD!!
  19. Okay I now officially am on a cocktail of Valium & Prozac. Yesterday I rang everyone all excited as there was going to be good snow over the weekend which was going to cover all the damage from the unseasonal rain for we we got there. WHERE DID MY HEAVY SNOW FALLS GO?????? Tokabochi reported in the SJ Chatbox that Sapporo has run into trouble with their Ice Festival because of lack of snow. GREAT we start in Sapporo at the Ice Festival then head down to Niseko. I think I have been cursed because I ranted so much about it and am bringing my friends the snow gods have thrown in
  20. How was Australia Day in Niseko. Hopefully no street brawls or to many out of control Australians. Great here in Oz everyone was out having bbq's, playing cricket, nearly every second car had Australia Flags Flying. We celebrated with Vegemite on Toast for Breakfast, Went down to the beach with the dog, had a beer and Pie (with tomato sauce) for lunch and A Lamb Chop for Dinner with another beer and a lamington for dessert. Can't get more Australian than that. Kanpai!!
