  1. Agree with Kev. Certainly will not miss them if they disappear ... haven't noticed them so far.
  2. Yeah, right!! Not personal SAFETY, goose! Computer security, loss of data, becoming the source of spam, etc. Sheesh! What planet have you been on recently?
  3. Thanks, TB. Good to get an explanation of the local stuff. I recall our first trip pto Japan, coincided with the post Xmas/New Year week, so the resort was chokka with locals. We'd not been told (by the tour operators) that this was likely to happen. The next year, we avoided that time and had a great time with minimal crowding. Makes a lot of dofference - like between 5 minutes lift lines and practically zero!
  4. OK, just asking - My point, I guess, is that the security issues, relating to exploits that use the well known flaws in IE are legion, while the same exploits do not work in FF. OK, I'm a nerd, prefer something that is nicer, neater and more delicately engineered. My problem, not yours
  5. Wot Thinderpants said ... for the benefit of us gaigin, what's "golden week"?

  7. Really, really, REALLY interesting. An observation - though the site is SnowJapam - there are people from all over on here. The discussion is wide ranging and I enjoy the interchange of ideas and discussion. There are discussions about the world in general, and I appreciate all input. However, I believe that there could be an area of the forums devoted to "foreign" skiing - after all, lots of members are from UK and Aus and the season in Oz is just beginning while the Japan season is winding down (if not wound down already!). It would be nice to see the "down under" ski fields cove
  8. Wot TB said! El Fayed is the greatest twit the lord (of whatever religion you follow) ever put breath in. He's so up himself that he cannot see the light shining outa his @r$e. As a mate of mine used to say "nine foot tall - 6 feet from toe to head and 3 foot up himself"
  9. OK, whatever floats yer boat. But, preference implies a conscious decision - rather than "use it because it's part of the OS" - was simply a question, is all! Simply put, I prefer "non-MS" products when they are equal to (or especially when better than) the MS product. Don't use Open office because the "better than" bit doesn;t apply - otherwise I would. I started with FF when they were the ONLY browser to use tabs while still complying with the W3 standard. That meant that some sites (which insist on using the 'extensions' to w3 that MS invented) did not render correctly. Thus my us
  10. Interesting ... Just out of interest, would you mind telling me why? (PM if you like). I install PCs for a major retailer, Have had some people ask for FF to be installed, some wanting to have IE removed (not really possible since it is tightly integrated into the OS) but not ever had anyone say they prefer IE. Cost cannot be an issue - both are free - nor "security" as there are mountains of evidence to attest to the fact that IE is not the most secure product. (And the fact that it is so much the dominant browser in the marketplace makes it a more attractive target for those eeji
  11. Yeah, they also assume that the average user has an unlimited amount of cash to continue to upgrade, they also have no concept of "the cost of electricity".

  13. Topic is fairly flexible, 2 pints! Besides, how does anyone from London, get to call anyone "mate"? Unless you're an Ozzie, mate!

No, but at least more easily understood than democrat and republican. BTW a republican, here would be one who wants to cut ties with the imperial British Empire and have our own head of state, rather than the queen of a foreign country. And, I have
  15. Started teaching 1972, so that places the free milk time. I was in a central school for 2 years, primary and secondary on the same site and more or less integrated run by the same principal. After that, I moved to secondary schools, so cannot comoment on later.
  16. Not when I was at school as a kid! (talking country NSW in 50s and 60s) When I taught in the Riverina, the primary kids got free milk, and the milko chucked in a couple of extra bags of white fot the staff morning tea. That was easy until the kids got banana - Have you ever tried banana milk in a cup of coffee?? BLECK is absolutely right! We used to have a spot in the fridge for the kids milk, so they never got hot milk.
  17. No, the bounce happens at the mail server, so I don't even get the original. If the bounce doesn't happen, I guess the whole lot ends in the bit bucket, I certainly don't see them. blacklist is a bit of a time thing. I have to get in there and edit it occasionally, to remove some of the bloat. I also have turned off the feature that checks against a database of know spammers. That had been listing MY ISP (bigpond.com - ffs) as a source of spam and wanting to bounce even CCs I did to myself. That is just STUPID! On the whoole, though, it is magic!
  18. Yeah, Tamworth - that's "near enough" to fly over for a couple weeks skiing and fly back. Wouldn't like to have to walk it though!
  19. Oh, as we did our lessons while we waited for the dinosaur to roast! I get it!
  20. I use a proxy program (MailWasher) that sits between me and the server. It downloads the headers of the emails and then asks if I want to read them. It allows you to just delete, to blacklist or to 'bounce' the emails Or add them to a 'friends' list. A bounced email is returned to the sender as having been sent to an unidentifiable address as if they'd made a mistake in the addy. You can set up all sorts of filters (eg I have one that marks for delete, bounce and blacklist any emails that offer to enhance my breasts - I am quite happy with them atm, thanks for asking!) kinda like thursday
  21. Bwahahahahah @ Tubby! Good one! I hear they claim it to be a "reality" show! Strange, how the least real shows are the ones called "reality". Like "My Kid's a Star" and "Survivor" - how "real" are they?? I guess someone must like them, because they are up to about Survivor 1000000 by now. But I cannot see the point. If you want to watch a show about some exotic location, watch David Attenborough. Yeah, BOF, grumpy old man, opinionated git! I'm entitled.
  22. TB, I tend not to trust "automatic" anything. OK, I'm a control freak, but I want to be able to work when I want and let the opyjer stuff work when I don't. So ... automatic virus scans, automatic updates, automatic cars are all &U(&*^*^%^&% if you follow me So, I do what I have to do, then set the AV scan or the defrag or the update to do what it needs to do. I also do not just accept ALL Bill's updates. I choose the ones I want. Ferinstance, I do not EVER use (in factit ain't installed) Outlook Express - too many holes to plug and too many people looking for more - so I neve
