  1. Ah yes, the usual Japanese New year shutdown... will try not to get busted by it this year!
  2. Life Aquatic is great but I wouldn't put it above the Royal Tenenbaums. Missing out on a ticket for the single screening of the Darjeeling Limited at the Tokyo Film Festival back in early Autumn (it won't be out here until March) was extremely disappointing. I do recommend Adaptation with Nicholas Cage though. Very odd, but very enjoyable film. I actually loved Con Air. Its dedication to supreme cheesiness was fantastic.

  4. I see, that seems to make sense... it's like Pimp my Ride in here! So in essence the systems on your map will spin anticlockwise while moving to the East, now I understand why Hokkaido will get snow last this time. This is informative!
  5. I can't identify that coastline as part of Japan... are my powers really that weak?
  6. Thnaks for the update! Care to stick your neck and have a guess at timing?
  7. I just finished reading them all. Fantastic experience - one that my lacklustre writing skills couldn't do justice to. Much as I intend to make the effort to emulate some of the experiences outlined in the TRs, I can only recommend that you follow in my footsteps and get reading!
  8. I think it would be nice to mix everything in together in this forum, but that's just one person's opinion. Here are some of Toque's TRs, they are great - never realised there was so much good content waiting to be uncovered. http://www.snowjapanforums.com/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Main/4987/Number/84239#Post84239 http://www.snowjapanforums.com/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Main/5794/Number/102494#Post102494 http://www.snowjapanforums.com/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Main/5220/Number/91049#Post91049 http://www.snowjapanforums.com/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Main/4977/Number/
  9. Can we enter more than once? I couldn't see it prohibited anywhere in SJForums' post but I guess I might have missed it...
  10. If I check other sites like Yahoo Japan weather (I'm hoping it's OK to post this link as it's just for informational purposes) http://weather.yahoo.co.jp/weather/jp/leisure/ski/1b/11717.html then it seems OK (wet snow followed by dry snow). Are they just overly optimistic? Is there some resource where I can learn to read weather maps? I just about figured out how to read charts for surfing but I wouldn't have a clue for snow or other weather informaion.
  11. Those are some lovely shots but they are a touch small... is it possible to upload higher resolution ones in the future? Is your chief instructor wearing the new Haglofs jacket? It looks great but don't know whether I can justify the expense...

Niseko I can't compare to as I haven't been (first trip in January). But Kagura's big plus point is that it is conveniently located. Heading up to Hakuba from Tokyo is a major undertaking, Kagura is much more manageable. And when the snow's right, there is plenty of fun to be had

You haven't seen the jacket I ski in. I've had my place in that thread prebooked from the day I purchased it. It's a poser. I will have to look into the logistics of the transport.

  16. Which lift is that in the last shot? Don't recognise that slope...
  17. This thread had slipped to page three, no good! So, if I get first shinkansen up on Monday morning and get a taxi from the station to Mitsumata (ie don't wait for the bus), is it still likely that I am going to get horribly delayed waiting for a lift pass at the ropeway station? I know nobody can know for sure but maybe people can guess based upon the fact that it is the Monday of a long weekend. I presume that my trip back that afternoon will be fairly miserable? Life was simpler last year when I had my own permanent ski chauffeur (ski buddy)...
  18. Hmmm... sounds like I need the gear. Hope I have time to pick it up beforehand. Thanks for the vivid description!
  19. Changing the topic only briefly - if I go out to Chiba this weekend with nothing but a 4/3 F-bomb (no boots, no hood) am I going to have a very unpleasant time? Not that much surf forecast, but just in the mood...
  20. Some of the ones that I got you to move have pictures that don't display properly. This can be fixed by removing the numerical code from after the filename in the image tags... but I can't edit other people's posts...
