It is snowing here in Tokyo now as I type this message, only lightly at the moment, but never the less snowing, really light fluffy flakes too.

Must of been more than 7cms in Yokohama we had around 8cm here in Tokyo, although they only said 3cm. It is so funny to see the Tokyo people slipping and sliding everywhere, like they have never been on snow, Instead of walking on the snow which is far less slippery they all walk on the icy parts. Duh! Actually I saw many ladies in high heeled boots or shoes, what does one expect when one does not dress for the weather. Actually snowed a little around 10pm here in Tokyo tonight. Has stopped now, but looks like from midnight onwards theres a good chance of some snow.

Unfortunately only seven times so far, been to busy to hit the slopes, but will be skiing again next week, and throughout feb and mar hopefully. Bought a new set of curving skiis last week so can't wait to try them out next week. Now got curving skiis and short skiis to choose from depending on my mood.

Yes it is not far from Numata and Niharu mura. Actually Takayama doesn't get so much snow, around 50cm or so, but it is famous in the area for being extremly cold. Actually I live in Takayama weekends and holidays and work in Tokyo weekday. Will be moving to Nagano from April.

I had my first ski for this season yesterday at Hodaigi, the snow was a bit heavy, but never the less it was great to be out on the slope again. Will be sliding some more this week, yippeeeeee! Anyone else went for their first ski this weekend? Oh and also Merry xmas and a happy new year to everyone here!

Karuizawa doesn't get much snow, as it's in a very dry area, but when it snows it's powder. I would recommend Gala rather than karuizawa, if your a bit of an expert. Karuizawa is good for the beginner or if you just want to play in a little snow.

Don't worry it is going to dump this year big time and very soon too. Like I said back in the summer of this year this winter is going to be a good one, I am still saying that. Even Tokyo and surrounding areas will get dumped on this year. By January there will be more snow than you know what to do with it.

Never been to Hakuba or Niseko yet, have to say not that interested in the big well know places as too over crouded. Instead I usually go to some of the smaller places in either Niigata, Gunma or Nagano. There are a couple of not so well know places in Gunma that I go to, which are like a 1000 yen for a days lift ticket, the car park is literally right in front of the ski park and only about a 30 min drive from my house. Forget public slippers in the ryokans etc, socks or bare feet for me. There is a shop called Hikari that sells shoes up to size 36 its where most of the sumo wrestlers go to get their shoes, thats about the only place I can find shoes, but they don't sell snow boots. Victoria has up to size 30 with an amazingly large choice of only one colour and style to choose from, so it wont be to difficult for me to decide which one to go for. haha! Same as last year as was all new last year. Red Jacket, grey trousers black gloves Need new ski boots but not decided the colour yet. When you got size 30cm feet like me trying to find a pair here in Japan is a challenge in its self so maybe choice of colour wont be an option for me.

Went to Tokyo Dome Saturday as there was a big sports sale of brand goods. Got some new stocks and goggles which I needed, couldn't get the boots I wanted as they only had up to 29.5cm, so will have to go to Victoria for them. They had loads of snow gear, including boards, skiis, all the clothing and accesaries too. Anyone else go? Well not long now before we can all try out our new gear. Well I have a lot of exercise experience, and would recommend the following, if time / equipment allows. Legs : squats, leg curls : Not many realise this but squats if done properly actually works virtually every muscle in your body, although the most concentration is on the thighs. Calve raises. For the lower legs. No good having beafy thighs and weedly underpins. Skiing punishes calves more than a lot think. well I have a four year old daughter and first started her out on skis when she was about two / three. She kind of enjoyed it, but got fed up after just a few mins, and instead prefared the sledge. I think best just play in the snow at a family resort and if you can find a really nice patient instructor then you could try putting her in a class, but don't expect much, as a two year old has no real idea of what they are doing. Main thing just let them mess around in the snow as they like. Tying a rope around their waste and pulling them along on the snow is a good way to help them get use
