  1. GG, Indo already answered the FV question - but overall, good stuff. The new LCD technology is definately better than the older LCD technology. The older LCD technology tended to smear action (slow pixels). The older plasma technology was very suseptable to burn-ins and tended to be less sharp. The only downside with current LCD technology is that they still can't get the rich deep colors (especially blacks) of Plasmas. But the resolution appears to be brighter and sharper. Sony have done a good job of making LCD's watchable (as has Sharp). The downside of newer
  2. um, this is Japan - this is what they do. They play a song everyday at 5pm on the tsunami warning system, all the school bells chime with the same tone, and people play taiko in the shrine. Try living next to the football field of a HS in the US and wake up to marching band practice every morning at 7am. Can't be that bad...
  3. I miss watching him. It was like a car accident in the other lane that you can't keep your eyes off until you see the guy pulled out and give the thumbs up that 'he's ok'! He did take a lot of unnessesary risk, but he was very entertaining.
  4. In this case it sounds like you got an EXCELLENT deal. a 4000 yen investment in a 10 year warranty has a FV of roughly 6,516 yen. Since it was really invested for 4 years until you actually used it, the number goes down slighly to 4,864. Assuming the price of your original Plasma was about 345,000 and was used for 4 years (we'll depreciate it over 5 years), it would have a residual value of 69,000. So we'll add the residual value and the FV of your investment in the warranty to get 73,864. Now assuming this TV is brand new and has an MSRP of 345,000 you saved a

  9. Just park the car near the nuclear reactor leak and have the guys in the moon suits give the inside of the car a once over - it should smell like new after that (and may glow a little at night).
  10. The ski hills were like that in 99, the first year I skiied in Japan - it was elbo to elbo and lift lines for days. It think I got a total of 5 runs in.
  11. Jane, The pros use this: http://avid.com/products/xpresspro/ This is what I use at home, it's a little pricey, but it has everything that the pros use. You can use it to do home movies, documentaries, feature films, etc. It's available on mac or win.
  12. 8) He constantly talks about which positions he's going to use on those 30 virgins in the afterlife...
  13. Nice one.....Usually, those warrenties are a bad deal when you add up the payments, consider the repair or maintance costs and the DCF associated with the upfront payment. But it sounds like it worked out well for you - although, I tend to like plasma over LCD - i'll stick with my Panasonic....(1 year warranty only).

  16. There are only 3 things that turns Tsonaboy on...porn, techno, and Earthquakes (not neccessarily in that order) - what a great guy! I haven't had time to do enough research to join the conversation - a bit distracted - but sounds like an interesting one.
  17. CB, No worries mate, I had a relaxing time with the outlaws and i'm back in Tokyo now. I can't really get the energy to get myself over to Hello Work, I'd rather spend my time on more productive things like talking to headhunters, doing business research, etc. I may make it down on friday, if not i'll go next week. It seems this thread has digressed into bread crumbs (literally).
