  1. spearmint. Your leaf is not extra. My wife does the cooking, not because I'm a prick, but because she rocks at it. Except for Italian, NOBODY cooks italian like me. (except in Japan, the ingredients aren't so readily available.)

I assume you knew about the book in progress and henceforth- gave me a poking... like; "You finish that thing yet?" (actually I have... self-editing as we speak. Wish me luck in the submision arena this summer. I know something about writing 80K words, but nothing about selling them... yet. Any marketing tips??
  3. I did South America for 7 months and required a 3 week couch fest afterwards. I loved it, but it's exhausting always looking over your back, avoiding the coke dealers, blending in, not trusting the overly-friendly stranger asking personal questions about your life in America, wondering why the joint you are sharing with the homeless man sleeping under the boardwalk tastes sweet, like candy. Taught me my street-smarts though and wouldn't trade that experience for anything. In SA, I learned to walk down the middle of the street at night, not in the shadows. I learned not to ride in t
  4. the oxyride batteries were just my backups, I currently have alkaline in my transceiver. But I will try both batteries this weekend and report back...
  5. Dude... i just opened my transeiver pouch and found my back-up batteries nicely bundled together in a six pack via a rubber band and they are the same batteries. cheers mate. Actually, Daver owes you some props being as he's my BC partner and all. Daver, apparently those looking out for you are not even present. And... I will now conduct a new test.
  6. Anyway, aside from the shaking apartment, I'm sorry to hear you are seeing brown patches. Gomen ne. Perhaps a good opportunity to save for a trip to the southern hemi this august? Argentina could go off again, as could NZ.
  7. but stability may arrive. it is supposed to get cool quick and turn that rain to snow, turning your slush-bomb mountain into a block of ice that will endure the high temps of spring, coated with a nice layer of pow come friday. That heavy snow will slowly creep down the slope over time, pulling branches and small trees down with it. Heavy base makes tree skiing doable. You need it. smile, you didn't lose nearly as much snow as you assume (in the long run anyway.)
  8. I've seen them on during blizzards, though haven't been on recently that I have noticed.
  9. If we get a woman presidet- please make her black. If we get a black woman president- please make her the woman in the neighborhood of whom all are scared. The single/black/working mother of 3 teenaged boys would be ideal. A) She knows how to manage money. She understands respect. C) She will throw her shoe at you, which in the middle east, is a very offensive thing to do. Actually, that didn't start out as a joke. I could really appreciate someone in office who is not a millionaire and is self-reliant.
  10. cheers tsondaboy, gotta go check my batteries now. And then I gotta do another test. Oh well, makes for an interesting lunch break at the hill on saturday.
  11. A shovel a probe a beacon are the three standard pieces of equipment that you will hopefully never ever need. It may suck to spend over 400 bucks on something you must master yet pray to never use. If you get a chance, after you take a course, hit up patrol (beg more than once) to follow them on a snow-safety day. looking at snow, then seeing a bomb thrown will give you a really good idea what snow likes to slide. And hands on experience is waaay more valuable than pictures, drawings and books. And getting hands on experience away from the BC is really hard to come by. I know it's
  12. Why isn't there anyone in the car opening and closing the door? I mean, how else to you make up for a lack of hoar? Oh wait, is that EBC in the back ground? Why didn't you tackle him!? he totally had an open field! Goddamnit, that commercial worked. Now I need an avalung.
  13. I'm going to buy a race plug, get it dremmeled, a duke, and a 197 metal Katana. then, I'm going to sit down and watch in ah as you climb above me.
  14. fair enough. both fritchis and naxos had their run-of-the-mill as well, eh? But that's the glory... stuff just keeps getting better and better. and strangely enough- I remember Volkl Tigers in the ski shop about 20 years ago costing over 700 bucks. Oddly, a race ski still runs about 700 bucks. Lift tickets on the other hand... holy crap have they gotten more expensive over the years.
  15. well... trekkers tried to fill a niche, and perhaps they did for those kids with only one setup who are trying to do all they can to get out there. (that was me 12 years ago.) But I just wanted to make the point that the new Markers aren't even in the same category as fritches or naxos. They are the first (or second) attempt at a hybrid alpine/touring binding. Salomon 17 din steel for alpine dominance. Fritche 12 din for touring/BC dominance. Marker duke... hmmm... never heard of a steel 16 din binding with a touring mode. wow. Probably not any heavier than a system binding eithe
  16. I have freerides, they're set on one-turn-off-max. (around 11.5)They have pre-released a couple of times when I hit things in the snow, but it would have been me tumbling if it didn't pop off. I like them (for their use.) They suck on groomers. Period. They're wobbly. They float all over the place inside themselves. They're great in pow or the BC, but not a good resort/sidecountry binding. The Duke is in a niche of its own here and I look forward to touching it first-hand. The metal 514s on my Jet Fuels are bomber. I won't have any problem buying a marker after riding it. I find it
  17. I think I'm lingering around 30. But one or two of those icy nights could have been left out. February has been rocking!! pray this snow remains snow and the rain stays away.
  18. I agree with your points about the duke's design flaws. However, I have a pair of fritches, don't need another one. And if I buy any binding, it might as well have a touring option. There aren't many reasons to go with a traditional alpine binding on any of my skis in the future. And apparently, the duke feels just as solid as any high-din binding (it goes to 16 btw) In my days of tents and ropes, it would have been over-kill, but nowadays it's ideal. It was designed for resort/sidecountry/slackcountry skiers. Not long-distance tourers. I haven't held it in my hand yet, but j
  19. the marker duke is all the hype these days. I will probably buy it as my next.
  20. -20F and sleeping in tents = golfball cluster of surface hoar growing on LED lights hanging from the roof. The Disco Ball from Superman's Dance Hall. Oh... it also = no sleep.
  21. anyway, thanks for the link. that dude that almost hit the rock surely would have been dealt some pretty major issues, had he hit it. And Jamie Pierre doing the 245 footer for a world record when he's a father is a selfish prick. It would be great if he were childless, but when you have responsiblities that big, I really lose respect for people who boost like that.
  22. There is a 1-2 meter base at Zao, which is now a block of ice and should last some time. Piste has great coverage and the trees are doable, and that's saying a lot as the trees have ridiculous undergrowth that needs to be covered this year.
