  1. It has over 700 tonnes of fuel oil and another 100 tones of other oils, thats a lot of oil when its only 30 to 50 metres off the beach
  2. When is it being held, I am planning on visiting there next January on a day trip from Niseko
  3. Austrailia being the hottest driest continent on Earth is luck to have snow at all however the area it does snow in is only about 0.1% of the total country. There are two areas about 100km apart. One is in the state of Victoria where the three main resorts are Buller, Hotham and Falls Creek, they range in size from 250 hectares to 450 hectares. In New South Wales you have Thredbo, Perisher and the smaller Selwyn. The biggest is Perisher which is over 1200 hectares. Snow in Australia is a lot heavier than Japan. we rarely get powder or the huge dumps of snow you get but in an
  4. Skiing is for those with the skills to handle two seperate items at once, the less skilled use just the one.
  5. Quote: If you'd like to get away from the Aussie hordes on the hill and see a little of real rural Japan then Kutchan is only a 15 min bus ride away I agree thats why we go there, oh my god I'm an Aussie, there goes the neibourhood. Seriously Kutchan has a lot to offer, we prefer eating out there to Hiafu as it offers excellent food in some great places at a very reasonable price. Bought some good ski boots there as well. The Max Value is important to us as well as ew stay in a self contained apartment. You can also get off the train at Niseko Town, similar distance and ano

  7. There is certainly some beutiful country out there but its so sad to see the damage from the 2003 and 2006 bush fires, we lost so much in those.

The unit I stay in is Australian owned and I am friends with the owner however most Aussies heading over there have booked already, we generally book as early as we can to ensure we get the best air fares and ensure our accommodation is assured. I have even hired a car for that period.
  9. I knew Kaga was an Actor I heard he did the Japanese equivelent of who wants to be a millionaire. Of course in Yen that would need to be Billionaire.
  10. I am already booked for Dec Jan 2007/08 as the self contained apartments also fill quickly. 80% are aussies, wow .... well I guess if your gonna have a bunch of gaijin running (or skiing around) they may as well be Aussies.
  11. I would want a connection to the nearest rescue service.
  12. We get the series Iron Chef on TV here every Saturday evening and while its the dubbed English version so I suspect the comentry is nothing like the original (I believe we get a characters voice that does not even exist on the original) its excellent. When I first visited Japan in 2005 I thought seeing the show would be great, i was deeply disapointed however to find out it finished in about 1999 and what we are seeing is quite old. So did the show have the huge following it does here or is it just a freakish thing that has happened and what does Chairman Karga do these days.
  13. Personally I think you should go to Niseko, for Australians its a great starting point to all things Japan with the safety net of many things Aussie. The advantage here is there are english speaking instructors plus terrain that both of you will enjoy. There are other activities like horse riding in the snow, snowmobiles etc.
  14. What exactly is a gaijin, last season about 40,000 Australians visited Japan to ski. I believe we are still vastly outnumbered by visitors from Hong Kong
  15. Actually Australians like self contained apartments and any resort that develops these will attract a loyal following
  16. I was up at Falls Creek today putting supplies into the apartment before the roads close (after next weekend cars can not enter the town as we ski on the roads). Was nice to see a cover of snow but unfortunatly it was raining. As for resort entry, the fee covers the cost of parking, ski patrol and services in the town such as sewage etc. It is a lot cheaper to get a season pass if you are a regular visitor. Carparking is also expensive as there is very little flat land, It costs over $40,000 to build a single parking space at Falls Creek. Food on the mountain is way to expensive w
  17. They are not allowed to look like an Olympic venue after the event so the following city remains unique, for example the torch used has to be removed, Sydney turned theirs into a fountain near the stadium.
  18. Most Olympic venues have to remove the references to the Olymics after the event, even the venues in Sydney have very little sign that they were an Olympic stadium.
  19. Bears in cages sounds pretty cruel not sure I would like that much
  20. No we flew back to Tokyo and with a 7 Day Green Japan Rail Pass we travelend to Takayama and stayed a couple of nights then Kyoto for two more with a day trip to Nara we then traveled to Himaji Castle then Hirashima (which was very special) and then we stayed on Miyajima Island for two nights before traveling back to Tokyo for a few more nights. It was a fantastic trip next time we will go to different places.
  21. I know what we need, hug an Aussie day. 99.9% of the Aussies you meet will be so casual and friendly its a shame that a few tools make it difficult for the rest of us. BTW if you look i]like Miss Universe you can hug me
