  1. Yes the sun has 11 year hotspot cycles that do effect the temperatures. But the differences can be accounted for and the results normalized. Also the last cycle has been going on for a bit. But for all the skeptics about global warming, I don't know how you can't see how bad it is even local warming, e.g. big cities with smog problems and concrete problems like Tokyo's Heat Island. What ever about the sun and C02 the heat has to dissipate somewhere and it doesn't just go away. For me its not really an argument of global warming its the massive shift in weather patterns, weather is b
  2. As a child in Ireland, the usual was one or two baths a week. We didn't have and immersion heater let alone gas, so could only have a bath when the fire was lit. So no showers either. As a teenager I used to wash my hair every morning with a kettle of water. I don't really like showers... but I love baths when I came to Japan I lived in a company dorm so it was ofuro every morning and night. Now its back to having a bath every second night. I am a stink b@stard. I wish I could buy cans of Lynks(AXE) here. Africa is the best haha. But for aftershave I always use Dunhill. I wa
  3. Have you seen the guys on the beach in Japan? Any normal BMI looks huge compared to them. The average weight for them is 45 kg.
  4. 188cm 79kg I want to be 72kg I work in the office far to much to have any form of exercise. I want to make all that 72kg muscle, for exercise this summer I was thinking of going to the park with my snowboard a practice ollies popits etc on the grass. I think plenty of people will be staring
  5. Best black sand surf beach in Japan http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&hl=en&q=...&t=k&iwloc=addr
  6. I am just doing atkins (the 2 week introduction twice) for a month, then I was planing on the abs diet I got a copy of the abs diet book. I don't want to look chunky for this summers surfing. Atkins is nothing like what I could do a few years ago. I could go 10 days with out food. But doing that had little impact on my fat, your body goes into shock and stores what it has. Atkins looses killer amounts of fat(...) like 10kgs in a month.

  8. Speaking of wax, my universal technique for a good coat. Spread wax unevenly over surfboard/snowboard/skis blast with a can of lynx and a lighter. Light brush work with the flame produces a really good clear coat with a feeling of elation.
  9. If you lean back any gouge in the snow will make you fall, it makes you faster because you are lifting the fronts out of the snow, less surface area, less traction. Yeah you should be able to ski in reverse on day 3 of learning to lean forward.
  10. Saying that Japanese children lean back like a gangster doing their snow plows. It makes me laugh.
  11. I was in the same position when I self learned how to ski, when I came to Japan, they were laughing at me. Besides its far more dangerous. By leaning forward you gain so much control. It might be natural reaction but if you force yourself in a day you should get your footing. Don't go for a neutral stance at first go full leaning in. The only reasons I can think of for leaning back is for racing and getting through heavy pow. At first leaning forward feels very heavy, after a while it will really lighten up and you will be able to ski in reverse, tricks, etc. (ill give you 3 days ha
  12. Just deleted the orphans. Now uinge software to get back what I can, any large file I dont care about but all the JPGS are coming out as zero byte so I have to check to make sure how it was originally stripped. Reasons why I used raid 0 in the first place? I hate loading times, especially for games. I have 1.5 TB but the 500 gb was the raid it made my whole system faster. Also its pretty mainstream and hella cheap these days.
  13. Hey quattro, I am probably running the same setup as you. Same MB make and same controler. Are you running raid 0 though?
  14. Its onboard, but still I did play 3 man for the mother board... The software controller says both the drives are orphaned while the the bios says the raid is intact. I am thinking of just swapping them out onto a good raid card. I have heard talk that one of the causes of write failure and currupt disks is XP itself.
  15. Well Japan is a developed country so it should have developed attitudes. When I was in China in a very rural place there was a sign on the street saying No Whites Allowed. But renting a flat or business back in Beijing you would never hear of such retard policies. That was 7 years ago I am sure there even has been more progress since them. I am sure the agents say to the house owner: "Oh you do you want to rent to Gaijin because sometimes the cause trouble" Home owner:"You know best, I will leave the decision to you" Agent:"ah no Gaijin the" Gaijin looking to rent:"I have th
  16. quattro, I dont think I lost the drive(its actualy writing more and more weird partitions to it) What I plan on doing is buying a larger drive and try and raw copy all the paritions using "g4u" then try and read the NTFS or mount what I can under linux. I sould of set the striping as larger than 64K because even with one drive working it could theoriticaly contain some pictures. I want to rebuild the array but my current onboard raid is useless and I am sure it would destroy everything. If it is mirrored or Raid 5 then I could rebuild it easily. But since it was raid 0 I was thin
  17. I lost 4 years of photographs in Japan. i.e. tens of thousands(when I used to be really into photography) I wasnt going to back up anything yet because I want to sell this pc and build a new one. I doubt anybody would want to buy it now although its only a year old.
  18. tsondaboy its not as easy as supply and demand. More like artificial monopolies vs. 'people who are stuck' demand. There are so many places available but people would rather let a house go unoccupied than reduce the price. e.g. over a 2 year period. Basic Rent: 1 million a year. So there is a chance of getting 2 mil. The landlord has 2 options. 1: lease to somebody for 2 years but can only afford 1.75 mill 2: lease for 1 year at 1 million, but go unoccupied for 1 year. The landlord and the agent (especially the agent) would rather get the 1 year lease in Japan.
  19. Same situation all of above. Except I had to pay 1:1 Reikin Shikin. In the end despite I actually had a guarantor(president of my company) They said I had to pay for them to be a guarantor irrespective plus I had to pay for the cleaning before I even went to the flat. No matter what it says on the paper you will always end up paying 2:2 plus fire insurance ofcource. Its all bolics, Japanese themselves never protest charges that is why the agencies can charge anything they want. On the day of the signing there was loads of mistakes on the paper I threw a fit and got the key
  20. Just lost everything, every photo that I had of Japan. I am a stupid IT engineer for ever using RAID 0 I will try and use a Linux Live CD to recover something as the bios still says the raid is intact. Doesn't Look likley though.
  21. Not a snob, if the pow is a bit tracked out I am not too worried because I it get a bit of a rest. I like a bit of top crust, but I hate ice, anything that doesnt break a fall is out.
  22. SirJibAlot ok lets try and arrange something then, I have to go near April because I lent a coworker some money. samurai yeah I was thinking of taking at least one tour from him... but not much more. A package between two people would be cheaper than getting the train and booking the hostel.
  23. WantToSki, I always worry about shelling out money on instructors etc. But for learning to ski, invite some good skiers with you and race them, learn to push yourself. Before my forum was off and a friend who really could ski just told me to change my posture a tiny fraction and the difference was unbelievable.
