  1. This may sound like hubris, but as much as I love the Beatles, I can't stand their early poppy songs.
  2. I always thouhgt that "pia" tacked on to otherwise intelligible words was like a suffix relating that word to a Utopia. I would guess greenpia would be a "Green Utopia." Without more info, I can't say beyond that. A park name? A nature conservancy? An environmental group? A building name?
  3. The up side (if you can call it that) is that about 1/3 of all pregnancies don't make it through the first three months. The higher the mother's stress levels, the greater the chance of miscarriage.
  4. Bushy, what bathroom wall did you get her number from, and can you pass it along to the rest of the lonely SJ gentlemen here? (Myself not included, of course). Kumapix, how close are you and your friends sitting to the television?
  5. I know what you meant, and you may be right. But how many times do Japanese businesses follow the "industry standard" rather than altering (subs: improving) something to suit market needs/wants? Why should the porn business be any different? I know very few J'se males who like jizzing in their gf's faces, and yet there it is in every porn flick. Also, if showing genital penetration is forbidden by law, as it is in Japan, what does that leave?
  6. I don't know if porn stars are a good measure of what the "average citizen" does in any country, but that's just my opinion. I just happened to meet a Japanese porn actress in a bar last thursday. She was quite far from normal. It did make for some interesting conversation, though. I learned that there are special porn actors whose sole job it is to do the "face cum" shots-- they have to be able to cum within three seconds of "action." Talk about a tough job.

No. Hardest thing in the world to force yourself to do, and is incredibly painful, but it really works. Ocean swims are the absolute best, but if you don't have an ocean on hand, a vigorous run also helps. Load up on water before and after. About the second? let's just say my weekends occasionally start on tuesday.
  8. At least 1/2 hour of cardio exercise in the morning. It sucks royally while you're doing it, but afterwards you'll feel just fine. . . . not that I know from experience. I, like I'm sexy, would never drink on a weekday. . . . . . bartender!
  9. "Ultimately, it's these interactions [conversation] with the opposite sex that bring out the inevitable animal instinct in us -- to reproduce," What ever happened to good old-fashioned alcohol???
  10. That last comment wasn't a slur against you Spud, nor Australians, or the French (well maybe the French)
  11. That reminds me of a Japanese saying that means something like "even a $hit-eating insect has preferences about the $hit it eats."
  12. I think I read that to fight decreasing birth rates my ku has implemented a policy to pick up the tab on ALL birth-related and subsequent hospital fees until the child graduates from elementary school. Maybe its just kita-ku, and its possible I misread the paper, but that would sure help explain why she might want (thinks she can afford) to keep the baby. Ask her on thursday how she can afford to have/raise the baby.
  13. Daver: Love it up there. I wish I could give you a definite yes, but I'm hanging up the books for a real job pretty soon, so who knows how much skiing it will allow for. Think the honeymoon is over, but you never know. I'll let you know come November what the magic eighball says. AK: Agree with you that its a great place, but careful what you say on a forum like this. "no boundaries=anywhere OK" is a dangerous thing to say. If you go out of bounds, you better be knowledgable, prepared for the worst, and be with a parter who can save your @ss if the worst happens. There are signs all o
  14. Movie pop corn. I deliberately try to start slow, eating only one at a time, but pretty soon, one turns into three, three turns into a handful, handfuls turn into just dumping the bucket directly into my mouth. What in world do they put in that stuff?
  15. Quote: Originally posted by Creek Boy: flowers and snakes... hmmmm, girl laying on a bed of flowers buttnekked while snakes slither all over her body? *yawn* Only the first ten seconds. Then she wakes up, and the real adventure begins. . . Anyone seen it yet? I'm dying to ask someone their thoughts on the ending.
  16. Fantastic snow conditions every time I've gone to Iwate. Don't go expecting lots of vert--the mountains just aren't that tall--but they do offer loads of really fun terrain. Phenomenal skiing to be done there, just means more, but shorter, lift rides. The big plus is, your legs hold up for the entire day. Appi is the one resort with vert, lots of varied terrain and always has some freshies somewhere if you explore or know where to look. There are a handful of smaller ski places along the river between Iwate-san and Hachimantai-san heading west. I forget all their names and which

Anyway, the site for the Encyclopedia of Shinto is: http://eos.kokugakuin.ac.jp/modules/xwords/ Pretty specialized for the most part, but the 24 "special topics" at the bottom right are more general and pretty interesti
  18. Let me just ask you this (I'll even make it multiple choice) and then I'll shut up (maybe): Why was/is Fuji even contending to become a world heritage sight? A) Because its Japan's highest mountain Because a variety of apple is named after it C) Because of the long history and centrality it has had and continues to have in Japanese religions D) Because it looks like a teet. Would you make sand castles out of the Zen rock garden at Ryoanji (another world heritage sight)? Would you carve your initials into the Moai statues on Easter Island (another world heritage sight)? A t

I can't do anything about the vending machines, concrete, artillery practice, amusemnet parks, etc. But I can do something about the litter I see, and my own actions. None of you seem to care about this, though, so I'll shut up. P.S. The Fuji "kami" is the phenomenon known as goraiko (Brocken specter, in English) that occurs in Japan almost only on the top of Fuji. Never seen
  20. When I was in Thailand a few years back, you could buy any of the above over-the-counter at most drug stores for a fraction of the price I had paid for Larium in the States. Problem is, you can never be entirely sure if you're getting the real thing or not. I had no side effects from Larium. But decided to drink plenty of gin and tonics just to be safe
  21. No I'll be here. Just looking for a job at the moment, and no employer believes that you are fluent in Japanese unless you have an official test certificate to prove it
