  1. Tokyo Physio in Hiro. The guy and his wife run it - both Australian physio's and have a very good reputation. Bit pricey but they have been very good for me and my injury plagued body... http://www.tokyophysio.com/
  2. Tried a pair of a mates on last season and they are toasty warm. Think they're about 13 000 JPY.. I guess 'not for snowboard' will rule me out though...
  3. Gloves at the moment, but looking to get a pair of those 3 finger Hestra mits (those ones that have the index finger separated from the other three fingers).
  4. To get from Haneda to Narita you will need to take the monorail from Haneda to Hamamatsucho. Once at Hamamatsucho, change trains there and Tokyo is three stops on the the Yamanote line. (Hamamatsucho - Shinbashi - Yurakucho - Tokyo). From Tokyo you can then take the Narita Express to get out to the Airport (1hr). In between Hamamatsucho and Tokyo you've got: Hamamatsucho - Souzouji - a big temple 15 mins walk from Hamamatsucho station. (good coffee shop along the way as well if you're dying for some quality coffee - a rarity in Japan! ) Ginza Get off at e
  5. OK - would be interesting to see the x-rays are like. That Annual medical reminded me of a factory line - standard clothes for each of the patients, give them a number, churn them in, churn them through, quick scan through of the results and it's back to the desk you go there thanks Mr Salaryman 67 It's been around at least since the early 1960's. Me mum used to be a darkroom technician in an X-Ray department, and it was a relatively common procedure for imaging the stomach and bowels. The guys in here at work said that they've made the barium a lot 'tastier'.... wonder
  6. I got stuck on the mountaineering books like into thin air, the climb, touching the void etc (all pretty common i know) Not so much about technical side but gives a good idea on how mentally tough people needed to do big mountains..
  7. Had my annual medical check up today courtesy of work, but along with making me feel like a factory line robot with another 80 odd people in the room, dressed in the stock standard blue uniform and slippers, the nurse made us skull a cup of that barium stuff. It felt like a cup of goo-ey lead. They then put us on this rotating trolley thing, taking x-rays as i rolled around on the tray. I assume was to swish the barium around inside the digestive system. Bit of a wierd `medical` and something that I`ve never had in Oz. Anyone had anything like that back in their home countries
  8. you know what i mean you know what im saying throwing the word 'like' in between every second or third word. Also 'deshou' gets me a little as well. Purely b/c i spent three weeks on the road with two japanese sarariiman for work and one of them ended just about every sentence with deshou. Drove me mad by about 10 days into the trip!!
  9. I used to use funabin-sen and found that was a pretty cheap way to get stuff home. Would take about 3 months but it saved me some yen for other goodies...
  10. I read the header and thought this was about paris hilton - same applies i guess
  11. Nope - no joke.. Although I think it French it probably sounded like Pharjoe (like the 'g' in peugeot) - Kind of like the upperclass wannabe French - Australian deparment store Target (soft 'g' again)
  12. Have met / known a few unfortunate souls in my time.... Used to play a bit of soccer against a guy called Steele Pullen, worked a season in Vail with a guy called Doug Douglas (the 3rd), entered a business competition with a french lass who had the very unfortunate name of Fanny Fagot..
  13. a good example of a very very twisted religion... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBrKmoIhFLQ
  14. Some of the multi level car parks back home (Oz) have the first hour free, then only a minimal charge for every hour after that. Once you get up to about 4 hours though, the cost price per hour rises pretty quickly. Lot of mates who were in TAFE used to park their cars there in the morning, then do a loop of the block in their lunch hour - reckoned it saved them lots of $s...
  15. If you`re in Tokyo, there`s a basketball court near Tamachi where they`ve got a whole heap of rails, witches hats, ramps etc set up. You can see it from the monorail, left hand side on the way out to haneda...
  16. Mm - nope they're still open for the tourists. These days they've got an area in the auctions roped off especially for the tourists. You should still be able to get in and check out the madness of the auctions. I think they kick off about 4:30ish, but we've been there at 5:30 / 6:00ish and they've still been right into it. If your tastebuds have woken up, a feed of sushi at the nearby sushi bars can go down a treat too....
  17. Head there early - the tuna auctions start really early and are a really big attraction. Scary to see how many tuna they pull out of the ocean day in day out... Also make sure you check out the holiday schedule so you don't get up super early arrive to find the whole place closed down!! (speaking from experience here!! arrrghh) Check out http://www.tsukiji-market.or.jp/tukiji_e.htm for more info
  18. this isnt exactly a flatmate story, but a shocker of a uni story i heard from a mate. there were two Uni groups in western NSW who had a pretty intense rivalry and would always gate-crash each others party and drop a `sneaky turd` somewhere in the house of whosever party it was. One ingenious lad thought it`d be a good idea to freeze his `sneaky turd` for the next party they were planning on crashing. Once there, he then took a hammer to it, smashed it into small pieces , then scattered it around the carpet in the house so when it melted - it was allllllll through the place.
  19. whoops - on reread i realise it was missing a few details there.... mm - its probably more to do with the difference in personality I guess. His and my sense of humour are polar opposites, both different values on family and friends, what`s interesting to me - not to him... We`re just very different people... Its not unbearable - just a bit frustrating that ppl used to love coming round for a few beers / dinner and now they`re a bit put off by it all... anyway - im probably making a mountain out of a molehill.... Nothing as bad as my brother who had a shocker of a flatmate du
  20. heya everyone, Loving this heat but there`s way too many sleeps before the next snow sesh!! I hade a room free after my old room mate moved out. Had a mate moving to the area so offered the room and turns out the mate is actually a bit of a dickhead..... I try to ignore it but its a bit of a bugger if i`ve got friends coming round and they`re not too keen on chatting with him.. anyone else have any similar experiences??
  21. was out boarding at manza one day and one of our crew was pulling camera out along the way taking snaps here and there. Finished up after a great day, we get down to the carpark and the guy taking the snaps (who was also the driver) said - fellas - haven`t got the keys.... thought it must have been a joke and pushed him a bit further, he kept it up till finally we realised he was serious... ended up calling a guy 200km away, went and had a scrub at the sento, had a few beers, waiting for the guy to turn up. 40 000 yen and a few beers later, the guy had cut us a new key for the rental car!
  22. Also the bloke White Goodman (Ben Stiller) blames for losing the grand final in that "Dodgeball" flick... *insert unrepeatable word* Chuck Norris... Not as tough, but funny as.
