  1. cold but dry, i think... Pack the puffa (the one with fewer stains and bits of duct tape - it is Tokyo) but not the skis?
  2. Right ok. Keep dreaming. ha ha ha - hey Kuma, if you want it to be the same, it should be a thread asking "Can anyone else out their pull off Kumapix"
  3. Kyoto sounds like it was fun. Sat and Sun both had good powder, wind deposited on Sat and fresh stuff on Sun. Good for popping off little rollers into pillow-like snow, but hard work in less steep areas.

I just listened back to this... the first Japanese guy is not a Japanese guy - it's me! Oh and Marc. tv star. good looks. I smell trouble. Mrs Kuma better keep a close eye on you. Noru ne!

  6. I would most often use 'yabai' when witnessing some sick skater who is making ricidulously hard tricks look easy. That sh#t is wrong / That was sick (in admiring awestruck stoked but playfully jealous tones) = yabai.
  7. Yabai, Kuma beat me too it. Yabai, means wrong and bad, but as you should be able to tell from the slightly awestruck tone of voice, it means bad meaning good here, or as we say in snow-toungues 'sick'. One of the 'yabai's might be from me in agreement with them. I too think Ben is wrong and bad.
  8. Keep your eyes peeled like an organic potato for something more happening along these lines at some time this winter in Hakuba. Nice and specific, me.

Buy a helmet everyon
  11. love for previous two posters. If you have the cash, I can see why a tapered board like a Fish would be a good recommendation for a SECOND board in Japan, but agree that longer boards are not a great recommendation. Longer boards need speed, are harder to control, and are geared towards large open alpine faces above the treeline - which more or less DO NOT exist in Japan - especially for an intermediate rider. There is quite often powder, but you'll get enough float by setting your stance back on a regular freestyle/all mountain board. You are 5'9 and 85kg, so I'd imagine that 1
  12. Going on my direct experience - under my own feet or infront of my eyes.... Would always first consider buying: Burton - maybe due to their past glories, but I think the good points still outweigh the bad, plus they have decent warranty. Missions represent good value for money and almost the same performance as Cartels on the simple one-piece tray design that is modular with parts and ..well, just works. P1s are heavier and have too many different parts to break, and the new top of the line ones have been tweaked too much for lightness and look weaker than the classic tray design
  13. Union also look decent. Drakes are plasticy and break, as do SP.
  14. There used to be a time when there was one answer to this question. Burton. The list of riders who rode their bindings while not sponsored by them was huge, but now the difference is not so big. I think actually Burton's have become less good rather than others being any better. Travis Rice still uses Burton (Missions or Cartels) and I've never had nay problem freeriding with those flexier bindings - and nor does TRice by the look of things. Technines are so bad, they look like a child has made them with mechano - any binding that has a simple nut and bolt through any movin
  15. Nice pics Kuma - especially the last one! People, look at Oyuki's track - that is smooth! FT - It may have been nicer for them to do before the sun came out, but then the pics wouldn't have been so nice! Looking at the shove-it shot.... makes me think the skate-banana or k2 gyrator reverse camber boards would be perfect for noboarding - look at how the contact points are catching! Dokumon - you better be over 35 to be making lame comments like that.
  16. No, there is enough on this page. But I had a fondue last night!
  17. Yeah, this does seem a rather desperate attempt to up their visitor numbers! I hope they still employ a someone to drive the pipe dragon! I will hit there a few nights, and for beginners, 1000yen a day is great - even if there are jumps all over the place to avoid. 4500yen a day when you can only go down one run when you are learning is a total waste of money anyway, so this should be great for any fresstyle cats with girlfriends learning to ride If they close, that's one fewer frestyle resort... if 47 is the last one left, will they then get a clue and change their park into
  18. impressive lens. very unimpressive dog. I think a good rule of thumb could be; If your dog is smaller than your lense, throw it away. (And get a cat).
  19. Totally pointless question unless we know to who(m - catch my drift?) the email being sent? Do you really use one level of formality for everyone, friend, business or someone you haven't met? Could be: Yo / laters, Yellow / peas, Darling FT / all my love, Hi / take care, Hellloooooo / byeeeee, Dear / Yours sincerely, Dear Sir or Madam / Yours faithfully, Dear / Best wishes, Oi / now piss off etc.... depends on who you are mailing. For friends I usually make something different up each time as I have the attention span of a 5 year old.
  20. means what? 1) 'I agree with Samurai, whereas tethers are going back to 70s - don't do that.' or 2) 'What Samurai described is going back to the 70s - don't do that.' ??? Now repeat "Grammar is good as it serves a communicative purpose." to yourself 20 times.
  21. I would have thought 'tethers' ie. being tied to your skiis would be dangerous in deep snow too unless you ski pretty slowly. I've never seen anyone using these. The fluro colour powder tracer things that Samurai described are a better bet if you are worried about being able to find your ski(s) in deep snow. They are made of really light nylon, like a kite, in very bright colours and would seem to make sense (although stuffing them back securely in your cuffs could be a pain if you fall over alot!)
  22. I tried to sign up for 2kyu but I couldn't get hold of an application pack! I looked on their website and it had drop-down lists of all the shops in each prefecture selling it... apart from Nagano - which had nothing! So I called the publishers and they said it had sold out for the whole of Nagano - at least I'm 90% sure that's what he said, as my Japanese is not that good (no English spoken at all by them), and that it wouldn't be possible to find one! This was week before the application deadline. pah. I had already driven round all the Heiando's who knew nothing about it, s
  23. Oh, and his camera must have had a fast frame rate, as I had to use every other frame for this. And yes, I know the arm of the third-to-last is under the previous one, but that's because it's the background layer, and I couldn't work out how to make another layer from it of just the arm to put on top.... any ps gurus know?
