  1. fatsy, that was the best run of my (short) season. looking forward to starting this one early and finally getting some real time on the slopes.
  2. here's mine (from toque's gallery): it's surprising how very few pictures i have of me on skis.
  3. my salomon's are 27.5, but it depends on the brand. if i remember correctly the 28 Lowa is the one that fits. will these be around for a while. i can go down to the ski shops and double check.
  4. hey fatsy, what size are the lowas? 28 or 28.5 work for me if you don't want 'em
  5. hey fatsy, wangel had lots of '06 models for about 30 000 (that's what my enemy's cost without the bindings). what length you looking for?
  6. K2 Public Enemy '06 179cm (??-85-??) (bought new this summer) Rossi Scratch bindings '06 (same as above) -for resort regardless of conditions K2 Seth Pistols '03 179cm (128-95-117) need to replace them cause they be old and sloppy. Naxo NX21 touring bindings '06 -for touring anywhere, anytime. StreetSki Freeride ~80cm (80mm wheels) Marker 900 bindings -for Tokyo. Still need to buy touring boots and possibly replace my jacket. I did pickup a nice new Dakine backpack for light tour/resort days pretty cheap. Somewhere on the list is a light rope too.
  7. later might be better for me, i'd like to take a week off for skiing around the end of January, early Feb. if cheeseman brings cheese, i can bring some wine. think i owe fatsy a bottle.
  8. i love both Red and WhiteWater. both great mountains with no crowds and someone link me to a picture of this SM line.
  9. kuma -> www.streetski.com toque -> hah, next spring if i think i can hack it. i need whole lotta practice.
  10. just a note to say that i'm still alive. i won't have internet at home for another 2 weeks and i can't really post from work. here's a look at my new city toys (sorry about the size): http://www.snowjapan.com/e/photogallery/sock_monkey_33.JPG i'll try to get an action shot next time i take 'em out.
  11. haha, you got pink eye! i have an eye infection right now too (though not the gross fun of pink eye). it's a pain cause of the drops and that i'm supposed to wear my glasses (i would if i could find them ) and on a skiing related note. i picked up a pair of '06 K2 Public Enemies (179cm) with Rossi scratch bindings for just under 50 000. my new resort setup. my eyes are open (when they don't itch) for a new pair of fatties to replace the seth's as well. they've gotten way too mushy and the naxos deserve a more solid platform
  12. spud, you might want to look into inline skates. they will work your balance and give you a good leg burn on the flats with low impact.
  13. i never left but i've been swamped with this new job. the little free time i've had i've been playing ultimate so i've neglected the board. but now that i've decided to stick around I better be planning for the winter. it'll be my first go at a full season out here.
  14. dude, my phone drowned a couple of weeks back so i lost all my contacts.
  15. hey toque, have a safe journey back and enjoy the BC BC for me. looks like i'll be sticking around to save money this year. school's gonna have to wait a little.
  16. i'm in a similar boat, unless someone drives up I can't make it til noon Saturday. i would really like to hit the snow since its been a few weeks. btw tried the struktura lights again. so tempting but the damn buckle is right where i would need to punch the shell. stupid feet.
  17. nope, i work in Roppongi Hills now. I started 2 weeks ago. I don't know how I'm getting to Hakuba yet, i guess it depends if anyone is driving up from Tokyo.
  18. FT, the new job is good. very different. big company, shirt and tie, bureaucracy. people are nice though and the setup is good, i think i'll get a lot of work done. i'm going to be responsible for a piece of software that handles billions of dollars worth of trades every day. pretty crazy. as for boots, tornados are crap like toque said, they're just alpine boots. i'm leaning towards getting a pair of Lowa Struktura Lights. Saw 'em on sale for 47 000. I tried on a bunch of boots a couple of weeks ago and the Lowas are the best fit for my foot. I tried Garmont, Scarpa and Dynafit. F
  19. ok. i got my final paycheque. looks like good timing. i think i might be able to squeeze new boots, a weekend in Hakuba and my rent on it. btw, i broke my nose last week playing ultimate. just a tiny chip on the side but damn that $%#@ hurts.
  20. i have a gore-tex microbivy/bag cover, and i carry a couple of space blankets.
  21. the thought crossed my mind that we might have to think about it but it never got that bad. the route to the onsen is short and we had planned to do a run up higher on the way so we ditched that idea and had plenty of time to spare. visibility was good enough to keep the group together. but i was still happy to be carrying my emergency gear.
  22. Snow Connection posted details in the BC/Avy forum. Sad news. We did the Renge Onsen route above Tsugaike on Monday and I was blown over 3 times on the flats at the top. At the onsen we met a guy who was forced to spend the night on the mountain on Sunday night. He had an emergency zelt (like a small tent) but still suffered serious frostbite on several fingers.
  23. according to some tests they both have the same torsional stiffness so downhill performance is about the same. the major differences are that the Naxo has a real alpine toe piece and the double pivot. the toe piece, in theory, would be a safer option if you do some resort skiing with them. If you plan on using alpine boots, the double pivot provides a smoother climbing motion (it's quite nice IMO). the nx21 also has a lock to prevent unwanted insta-tele but that usually isn't an issue for most skiers. personally, i don't think you can go wrong with either binding. like pompom hea
  24. I'm up for anything but steep ice sheets. My buddy Eiji should be up this weekend too. He's a telemarker, wants to do some touring as well, he's planning some day trips but I don't know what he has in mind exactly. I know he's done stuff behind Goryu in the past.
