I would say your best option is to get on the Shinkansen from Osaka and change at Shizuoka to the train that goes to Minobu. I don't think there is a bus connecting Osaka and Minobu.

AU has the best coverage around. I was able to make phone calls send "look were I am today" mails etc from both the top of Happo and Kagura several times.

Welcome to J-land then. I cant say much about Osaka, but in Tokyo you can get some pretty sweet deals. You might have problems finding boots over size 30 though. Were about in Yamanashi will you be staying?

For some strange reason, I have worst jetlag if I fly back from the states than from Greece. Most probably because the flights connecting from Greece arrive in Japan in the afternoon or in the night. So basically I just go to bed and wake up next morning.
