  1. no, got to fly from Kagoshima. actually that is a bit of an issue among the tourist industry here. a group of people are working hard to get a direct flight from Tokyo, but the airlines are arguing that the island need a bigger tourist attraction, which some one is working on now. another group of locals are working against that, so we have our own little civil war here, very entertaining you can also take the ferry from kagoshima for only 5000 yen, but the transport from the airport to the sea port is rather long, my wife mentioned 1 hr...
  2. The former owner of my place sometimes used already opened, day old soda (tonic) for his drinks, you would get a semi-dead drink What makes a Gin Tonic bad in your opinion Creek Boy? White wine never did it for me, i can drink red wine any time of year. Creek Boy, i will put some kind of Tanegashima Tr up in a not too distant future Mohito, that is the 2. time today somebody has mentioned that one, that is going on the menu, thanks
  3. I am constantly looking for new ideas for cocktails, shots and beers for my guests, and i am curious what your favorite drink is. My favorites are Red wine Beer Gin Tonic. Do you have any recipies you want to share? i have found a good shop who is willing to import lots of interesting stuff. drinksmixer is a good site to get inspiration anyway.
  4. by all means COME i'm serving 3 kind of Absinthe, danish beer and loads of other exotic alcohol, you will be pleased. the above link is NOT my photos, all credit goes to Jonathan an english ALT who don't want to leave this island.
  5. im shaking cocktails for the surfers and Jaxa crew in my ultra small bar, good fun! you can even find a picture of me in page 2 on that flickr link above. why don't you come down here and surf, i've got the boards and you don't have to battle chiba or shonan crowds. this place is nice!
  6. Hi there still lurking. Tanegashima is a very small place, we live in minamitane, a small town here, everybody knows your name (which is a bit scary sometime). we are 5 gaijin in this town 2 ALT's one Scottish surfer boy and one Philippine woman who married a farmer. and me. we have no money, we pay 5000 yen in rent for our house, have our own business which make (almost)no money, but we surf nice waves in stunning beautiful water with dolphins and turtles crowds are non existing, we don't even have a lock at our house... no McDonalds, no movie theater, i could go on, i still miss the s
  7. I have actually read a little more than just the headlines of this case because i (like most of you) wondered what was up with all that money. They have a child together which make a BIG difference because: If the child grows up with one of the parents having much more money than the other, it is easy to predict which of the parents the child would prefer. It is not that unfair to poor Paul. he got off cheap (just like when he got busted in jp)

After all the trouble my dear team had to go thru last year i was beyond happy to see Ham on top today, equally happy to see Ron Dennis with his team again this year. Today was a perfect day for McLaren and me. T
  9. I think this thread is symptomatic to the whole smoking debate. Poor Al just asked a question about ashtrays, and first reply was predictably a pointed finger at his habit. screw that. i'm tired of the non smoking holier than thou. And Mamabear, i am sorry for your boys trouble but if he is that sensitive to smoke i doubt very much that Tokyo would be less harmful to his respiratory system than that lift example. just using my common logic. I am suffering from a nerve disorder which makes my left ear extremely sensitive to noise. yet i have to live with all the unnecessary noise
  10. passive smoking is bad. no doubt. But the whole anti smoke crusade is out of proportion. measure a bit of tobacco smoke from the lift in front of you against the hordes of cars going thru Tokyo (or Hongkong) every day. Think about the left over antibiotics in your meat. Please don't misunderstand me, i think you have a right to a smoke free environment, but nobody is going to die from a ciggy, lit up 10 meters in front of you on a windy day.
  11. bloody cold here in the south. Tanegashima feels more like scandinavia. no heating in the house. sunny and windy
  12. Soubs, 801 was a project by Brian Eno and Phil Manzanera, both Roxy music. they made one studio album and one live album. Try to get the live album, really good! I am listening to The Meters, good funky music, which reminds me to kindly ask Mr. Wiggles to post a name or two in this tread. i need some inspiration

  17. Warning! nobody gets hurt, no one will make a fool out of themselves Just an insane, funny and above all ingenious little video. I watched it in tv as a preteen kid. The song stuck to the few braincells i have left over the years, Found it on yutube not long ago. Still great Btw, Tsondadude, it's a cocktailbar, sorry for not replying. Please come and taste my Mai Tais, they kick
  18. I have had that feeling all my working life. Having been tired of digging holes in the ground for other people, i just bought my own little business. No more bosses, no more timecards. I'm free (to go bankrupt)

What attracted you to there? Don't want to hijack your tread, so i'll try to make it short. I am not near any snow, but i figures that Shimane would be the closest descent snow i could drive to. Miyazaki and Kagoshima have "Yeti style" resorts (low quality) and maybe i'll go this s
