  1. That sites pretty full on eh! At the end of the day its, what performance do you want from your gear, and how seriously do you take it. Im sure most of us out there just want a smooth, fast ride. For me I keep it real simple as it takes alot of quite expencive gear to do a proper race tune.
  2. Im riding the Work Stinxs as well and would probably go to the Hippy Stinxs next if I was to trade up, no reason really other than they look real fun.
  3. It really depends on how often you wax your board. If its like in the southern hemisphere were you must wax every 4 - 5 days riding then they are right it does dry your base out, but if its like over here and you only wax a few times every season then all sorts of crap can stick to your base when all the old wax is gone. using wax as a cleaner does work well but its a pretty expencive way to go about it.
  4. checked out the Nagano sale today, For skiiers it sucked the fat one.No skis over 170cms and all race skis or punter skis, the boots, won`t even mention them, they were bad. For boarders you can pick up some pretty tidy deals for new seasons gear, they had some cool gear there, absolutly nothing for Telemarkers.I reckon you can get even better deals in the discount shops.
  5. I don`t really care about the weather as long as its not gale winds, even if its puking down the visability the the trees is always skiable. NO RAIN, NO RAIN, RAIN SUX.
  6. The lady ccame around today with a big bag of cakes, maybe so I can put more padding on my bod for next time. I couldnt really screw her for more money as this is a very small comunity and my wife teaches her children. She was very very sorry and promised to be more careful driving and not to use her keitai in the car, I kind of feel sorry for her as she was more shit scared than I was after I stopped shaking, still feeling pretty sore today but nothing a good programme of onsen and beers wont fix! Also her car came off worse than I did as my solid steel tank of a bike stoved in her front f
  7. Yeah man there are some real tools out there. The lady who hit me is coming around tommorrow afternoon to check up on me, I told her not to bother but she was flapping big time
  8. quite possibly, I dont think he has a backcountry guide lined up yet, maybe Nathan will come back, but I think he has quite a few bookings for ski feild tours. I know that Im going to be busy between christmas and new years doing the skifeild tours, I dont really want the responciblity of taking groups backcountry so there should be heaps of work on that line, give him a tingle and see whats up, If you want his cell phone number I can private it to you.
  9. most of the rescues I have done have been just outside the boundries of the ski feild as well as looking for climbers way out the back. It is the most physically exerting thing I have ever done, they are not easy, especially if it goes as far as a probe line. Conditions as far as weather go generally depend on the time of the season, ie mid winter is generally crap weather with lots of new snow and wind, spring is generally fine weather later in the day with the sun heating the snow pack. THe rescues I have done are always very military authoritarian style, move when your told, stay put
  10. I was biking with my dog this afternoon and was crossing an intersection and a lady smashed into me with her car. I wasnt hurt very badly but I did loose some skin off the elbows and knees, I was more worried about the dog, but she came out OK. I asked the lady why she didnt see me as I had the right of way and she said she was too busy dialing on her keitai (isnt that illegal to do while driving) any way she said sorry and I got 10 000 yen for my trouble. Thank god I was wearing my helmet and biking gloves otherwise it could have been worse. Very sucky day
  11. not quite following you there captain, never heard of equipment killing anyone, normally its thru trauma or suffication due to not being found.
  12. My dog was born on christmas day, one of 9 pups, must have been horrible for her being born in the snow in kutchan, her mum was an outside dog, she wont be gettin any birthday or chrissy gifts.
  13. Yeah know Matt Spragg really well, he got married about 2 years ago and left the grooming business and is now a hydrolic engineer in the north of the south Island. I heard the fish and frog (dont know if you know them)Karl and Dave They were here again last winter, think they might be comin back too, but dont think Matt will be.
  14. Patrolled at Mt Hutt for 7 winters, 1 in sunshine village and 1 at Lake Louise. The stupid thing about Nz resorts is that when they were first built noone gave a thought to avalanche paths back then, so all the day lodges were built in stupid places, take Mt Hutt for example, Directly above the side of the lodge are all sorts of funky chutes and when there is a SE snow fall man do they get loaded, about 17 of the chutes all have their runout paths finishing directly on top of the day lodge. Just dumb. The only way to control them is by avaluncher. In Nz you arnt allowed to use the avalauncher
  15. cold as a frogs tit in Hakuba today, think I might spark the log fire up tonight. Already lit it 3 or 4 times so far. Bring on the cold weather!
  16. For a beacon I still use the old ortovox F1 Focus as its the only one Ive used for years, tried and trusted, shovel is a lifelink with a pit saw in the handle, probe is a 3m lifelink, all my gear is older cos I cant afford to replace it and dont really see a need as its all found and dug out over a dozen people in the last 7 yrs, would like to get a new digi peips for my wife though. Dont even think about coming backcounrty with me if you have a plastic blade shovel, it will break in the first few digs in debris.
  17. Nice one Fattwins. The one thing I miss about Patrolling is the avalauncher, had one in Nz mounted to the back of a flat deck Hilux, it was cool, my boss set of a slide with it in the middle of the night that went down about 600m vert and through the snow making shed and through the day lodge restaurant, caused about 2.5 million dollars worth of damage, needless to say he wasn`t ny boss the next year.
  18. Dude come to hakuba in Jan and you can dig a snow cave in my car park and try it out for a night if you want, see whether you freeze your sack off or not before getting up on the mountain.
  19. I just tuned a friends new board the other day and the factory tune was CRAP! Edges weren`t even 90゚ sqaure, so a good idea is to tune your gear before you use it the first time. Watch japanese brand boards as alot of then are experimenting with new base plastics at the mo. The Ogasaka board I tuned had a weird base, it took so long to wax it as the wax just refused to to soak in and just kept flaking off, I think they saw her coming, damn thing cost her 60 000 yen,
  20. Man that was huge!! check out the crown fracture and the flank walls, that was alot of snow rumbling down there, very lucky man.
  21. I run a ski and snowboard workshop in Hakuba,2 hints, Remove old wax, I find that citrus cleaner from old Komeri works same as any other ski brand cleaner, its all the same stuff, sprey it on then use a metal scraper (blunt) and scrape from tip to tail, do everything tip to tail, once youve scraped dry it off with bog roll. If youve tuned youre edges first make sure all the edge filings are taken off the base. Next like everyone else said, melt on your wax, a steam iron is not so good, you want a flat based iron, if the wax smokes while your melting or spreading your irons too hot, spread the
  22. yeah ocean, I hear ya. Sunday night always a bath with my brother and sister, then a dry off in front of the fire, I dont remember us being smelly thru the week but everyone was like us, just generally poor.
  23. My wife and I were drinking every night over summer, mostly beer and bourbon but the beer has been getting too expencive and my guts bigger so we now have mon, tues and thurs nights alcohol free nights but still get nutted on drinking nights. I have found that having AFD (alcohol free days) has just turned me into more of a binge drinker on the nights that I can.
  24. Hey Hey to the kiwis, always the first to respond when called upon.
