  1. nipstar, I don't mean to pick on you (and other newcomers) but what I mean is that this has been talked about many times (so you should search the forum) and the obvious answer is "it just depends on the person, what's good for one may not be good for another". Saying that when a question like "what's best" is asked you need to give critera and this enables people to help you. for example if you want powder, search the forum for "powder" also look at the many reviews of the resorts and the resort statics on this site. I'm sorry but just saying "what's good" is a little lazy. Taking that a
  2. I know this question has been asked a thousand times, but after searching the forum I couldn't find a poll with a tally of results, so I'm interested to find out where is the best for you, unfortunately I can't include everywhere but hopefully I have included all the majors For me it's Nozawa, lots of snow, has lots of advanced terrain, great off piste that is largely untouched, great trees, free onsen, they don't rip you off with food and drink like some places do, I can park close to the lifts, it's normally not crowded, and I know it like the back of my hand
  3. what stated off as a topic from a lazy newcommer with 2 posts has actually made me curious, I am going to start a poll, can the mods please join the two topics
  4. I truly value the contribution that you guys make to this forum, but if possible could you please use the off topic area. I scanned through the last 5 pages of this topic and it is full of predominately personal conversation, a few off the topic posts is natural, but 5+ pages? I come here to read info about snow, it makes me feel like I'm imposing scanning through info on your personal lives while I'm looking for info about the snow. I definitely don't mean to be disrespectful because I know Toque, Yama, Fattwins... and others make a wonderful contribution to this forum.
  5. Fattwins, yeah I'm a member. It really is expensive service for what it is. I was a member last season and then I was hesitant to become a member again, but I wanted to know the info, so I decided to bite the bullet and pay. I don't mind snow forecast, but it is heavily focused on Europe and America (Japan doesn't even get mentioned in the "snow roundup"). Also Japanese resorts are not currently shown under powder reported, even though most are reported to recieve more snow than Axamer Lizum (29cm until monday) which is number one on the list. And under new snow there is only a couple of
  6. I'm finding my info at snow forecast, the forcast has changed slightly since this afternoon currently if I add up all the amounts from tuesday to friday night at nozawa at 1650m I get 48cm, and up untill monday morning I get 97cm!
  7. Fattwins, not that it really matters but I'm under the impression that shiga is the biggest area in Japan
  8. beautiful nozawa expecting 1m between now and sunday!!!!!!!!! thats 100cm, not a misprint, fantastic. Sava, I think Fattwins was refering to checking the current snow forecast. not a biggie, but as a side topic, I was wondering if admin had thought about adding a few more Graemlins? I really wanted to add a snowman or a snow cloud or something to this post. Not a big deal, but when you have the time it would be great
  9. As most of you probably know, this year we had a rather early start to the season, but then no snow for a week or so. The grat news is they are forcasting lots of snow again from Tuesday onwards Nozawa is reported to expect 64cm, Shiga-60 and Happo-51. if all comes in as forcasted it should allow many resorts to open and help me with the ski date I have planned for next week
  10. mmm, sorry if I have misread the article, but I can't find the name of the resort serreche listed, could someone please let me know. For me, I love vertical, so a place with that much vertical, I definately should add to my ever growing must visit list
  11. I was all happy because of the early season start, but then not much snow this week (hense Nozawa postponing it's opening date). I was all down and out because I thought we were not going to have snow for another week or so (looking at the tv news) but now sava you have renewed my spirits by proving the forecast above, maybe 20cm or so over the next 6days for the Nagano mountains. fingers crossed Just checked snow-forecast and (at least for the next 3days) there are only light snowfalls, unfortunately not quite enough to build up the base we need to open resorts up. the snowfalls are also
  12. Just to make a casual observation, some peaple are bloody lazy aren't they. It is easier to post a question than to read the topic properly, the link to yuzawa's now page has been given 3 times! It's bad enough when people don't search the forum, but when they don't even read the information provided in the (very short) thread there is just no excuse. I would understand however if the thread was 100 pages long. Come on guys, make some sort of effort
  13. Sorry tsondaboy, I don't know about Tokyo. Also I don't mean to hijack your topic but thought it was relavant so I didn't make another topic for my query. I did a search but couldn't find anything specific, so on the same topic... Does anyone know where in or around Nagano city (even Shiga or Iiyama would be fine) that does professional tuning? I have heard that some places don't do a very good job, so I'm specifically after somewhere good. I haven't had my skis tuned professionally for 2 seasons. I do however wax regularly, sharpen the edges occasionally and p-tex mmmm very occ
  14. well.... add a journal entry and some pics to your member page, I'm interested in going there at some stage, maybe this weekend, mmmm how long to drive from Nagano? 10hours?
  15. went to Kita Shiga Ryuo yesterday, I have also updated my journal and photo album photo\'s here and journal here
  16. with ski gear you need to wear clothes underneath all the time. It may get warm but this stops your ski getting too sweaty, and alows you to ski maybe 5-10 times between washes. the clothes that I wear underneath, I wash every 2 times I go maybe it's also important also to buy darker colours. Whites and creams get dirty quicker but when I do wash them I just throw them in the washing machine with a mild detergant. It is my belief that if you don't overwash them water proofing agents and such are not needed. it doesn't rain all that much in Japan (especially compered to Aus
  17. the great thing about Japan is that you can have your cake and eat it too, I say I want both, and I normally get both, I love this country. But honestly up to 15mins wait is tolerable, there has to be some sort of balance I suppose, if the slopes are so crowded that all you are doing is constantly dodging other skiers it would get anoying. I can handle both occasionally, but I wouldn't like to have to put up with it all the time (Japan has spoilt me, that's for sure)
  18. sava, is the file still seeded? my downloads are stuck at 0.2% and 0.9% if anyone else has the files could you please seed them for a day or so
  19. I'm not sure if anyone is going to read this beofore I leave in the morning for the hills, but where do you think I should go tomorrow shiga ryuo or normal shiga (I'm assuming there has been no change since sat-i.e. kumanoyu and takamagahara-one lift going about a third of the way up the hill) I have never been to ryuo so I thinking of going there, it's also cheaper 3,000yen vs 3,900yen
  20. I think that the nozawa cam's are not working correctly, I too have been checking them umpteen times a day, hoping they are able to open this weekend, because that is where I going to buy my season pass. Just gotta be patient and they should be working correctly soon (I hope) I wish that we were able to see the same stuff as the closed circuit TV at nozawa
  21. mee too, I set my alarm for 6 and kept looking out the window in anticipation, but nothing
  22. SJ2, thanks. I think I have fixed it now, please let me know if it's not working correctly.
