  1. We've not got that functionality going right now for a number of reasons (gets on peoples nerves, slows the pages down, etc). If there was overwhelming demand for the feature, then possibly..... As for the party - yes, we hope to have something planned much much earlier for next season.
  2. This is perhaps not the best thread to have this particular discussion, but just to add to what Ocean11 said there - as some other people have on occasion also commented or implied to us that he is either running this site or has some kind of extra special influence with us. Ocean11 has really been very helpful to us in giving us ideas and comments, and we should all thank him for that! Apart from writing some great articles for the site, and of course posting rather frequently here on these forums, he has also very kindly taken the time over the last year or more to send us comments a
  3. There is no hat, but we created a code so that the database does choose the winners from all valid entries. Also, any comments you write are stored separately so for example there is no advantage (in terms of the winning the giveaway) in saying nice things to us. We do however appreciate receiving the comments that people entering the draws send us, so please don't stop filling that comment box in! By the way - there have been relatively few entries to the latest Hakuba 47 draw so far this week, so if you enter the chances of winning will probably be higher than usual
  4. Really...hmmm.... Was that during the time period when the forums where down? Let us know if you get anything else bounced back. Thanks.
  5. Thanks for the comments snowboard_freak - emails got bounced back? They shouldn't have, thats a bit strange - the rest of the site and our mail servers had no problems (it was just a forum software application problem). Do let us know if you have any further problems there.
  6. The good thing to come out of the Forum downtime yesterday (sorry!) is that we have upgraded the Forum software, and so now there are a few new fun features on the forums to enjoy (and use up MORE time!) Here are the main changes: COMMUNITY DIRECTORY See who has posted the most on the Forums, search for skiers/snowboarders, and do some more fun stuff with the Community Directory. Click on the Directory link as seen below... NOTIFICATION OF NEW PRIVATE MESSAGES If you have any new Private Messages, a new message telling you so will appear under your login
  7. As you probably know, we suddenly had a big big problem with the display of the forums yesterday (Thurs) evening. Well, after 8 not-fun-filled hours of drowning in code......we're back! Sorry for the interruption. The good news out of all this is that the Forum has been upgraded and now has a few new features for you to enjoy - and we'll introduce those to you on Friday. But for now, we need some rest Many thanks to the 23 people who sent us emails telling us of the forum problems - appreciated. SnowJapan.Com
  8. How many entries? It depends, but usually anywhere between 200 and 500 entries for each giveaway.
  9. Well there was a smiley in there! Here's some more to emphasise the point... Cheers
  10. And we don't think there is much need for that....
  11. Quote: edit: good god, even "blood space y" and "blood spelt with three o's and a y added" is censored. Obviously something strange is going on here, sorry. Before, "bloody" (but never bloody variations eg with three o's) was in the list of words that was automatically replaced - but since quite a few months back that was changed. We've refreshed the system and all seems to be ok now. Thanks
  12. Just to add to this. Town office workers and teachers in Yuzawa are supplied with "all Yuzawa" tickets, which they can use at any resort within the towns boundaries (all 19 of them). Each school, and each section of the town office, gets a few for the teachers to use. School children and pensioners can also buy a season pass for "all Yuzawa" at the beginning of the season.
  13. Very glad to hear you can make the most of it. Have a great time up there PS Please check with NPC - we were under the impression that the mountain tour was for 1/2 day, not 2 days
  14. Someday, someday. .....sorry not to have updated that page (will do so today).
  15. Well, no posts were deleted at all....
  16. No offence is taken. Quote: cant I just point out here, most respectfully, that SJ.com don't really do anything to keep this forum clean of rubbish. They themselves admit as much. It is the members and the demographic from which we are generally sourced that keeps this place so great. Our point exactly, we do little to disturb what goes on here - but we do step in when something out of place does happen. If you were around at the very beginning, db, you would know that there was a lot of growing pains with the forum. Happily it now seems that the majority of posters here want the
  17. We feel a few things need to be said after this thread and all the comments contained in it and the emails that we have received since last night. The reason why a forum is a success or not is, as was mentioned earlier in this thread, the people who use the forums and post messages. We are very lucky in that our forums have a very large readership who post frequently who, along with a lot of lurkers, total several thousand people a day. There are a great selection and wide range of interesting, fun characters on here. The forum grows each season (and is even busy in the heat of the sum
  18. Welcome back, db, good to see you're still around. Quote: with all due respect to SJ.com people, the forums health is largely independent of there efforts as moderators Most correct. Luckily, we don't do much apart from read posts (which has admittedly become an increasingly large task over the last year!)
  19. You're welcome enderzero. We appreciate your understanding. Just to make this clear - we did clearly ask people on the form to show their intent to go to the party...otherwise we have no idea of if anyone or 6000 people will turn up. Quote: Would it have been possible to say, "we are thinking of cancelling the party due to lack of interest. Please let us know if you are interested or cancellation may be necessary."? Well, we did send out a newsletter (to over 5000 people) that highlighted the party and encouraged people to join in. Also highlighted the thread on the Forums et
