  1. Gonna repost this once I have more time.... sorry
  2. Compound fracture to my left arm pole vaulting and had three operations on it. In a hospital for about 6 weeks. Torn medial meniscus on my right knee from running to many 100 plus mile weeks. Outpatient operation. Had a sewer lid dropped on my big toe and broke it. Too many skateboarding and bmx spills to list - could probably make a funniest home video. About a month or two ago, after a going away party and several pints and shots riding back home on a mama chari we were doing the "Tour de Hondori" and racing from one end to the other. Then we decided to sprint really f
  3. Ocean, So we should just leave the test alone, let the students to continue studying passively for all subjects, let them neglect to think for themselves, and never be able to speak English. The teachers in this country half the time are the problem. You pointed out (I think it was you) that all the teachers should go to a foreign country to strengthen their English skills. That is ideal. And, instead of the JET programme all that money could be used for such a cause. A majority of Japanese English teachers have poor pronunciation, half-decent grammar, and have a hard time tr
  4. This thead opened up a can of worms. I think you pay for what you get. The JET programme gets exactly what they want, gaijin with (USUALLY) no teaching qualifications, no Japanese language ability, and no experience fresh out of university. So, are they underpaid Ocean, No. 300,000 yen/month plus a free apartment - Not too bad especially for some JETs who come from countries where the average wage after college isnt that high. Dont have to pay taxes and get about 90 Man back after 3 years. Im not a JET but do have friends who were... You cant blame the JETS for what they do - yo
  5. Higuma, I dont live up in Tohouku but did manage to get some surfing in earlier in the season when a typhoon came through. Probably one of the one's that hit Korea, too. You get some pretty nice swells before it hits but during it the sets turn to s#$t. Last year I was in Kouchi (Shikoku) and had some really nice surf before a tyhoon came through. Shikoku probably has some of the best surfing in the country.
  6. Ocean, Thats what I thought. You drive here dont you? I have a motorcycle and my mates have cars, regardless of what you drive the Japanese drivers in this country DO NOT LOOK when pulling out or any other time. I see it daily when on my bike - something I learned really quick here that on a bike you are 1000% defensive driving and have to constantly pay much more attention than a car just cause of the simple fact that if you get hit, youre Fu@$@d!!! Same thing on the slopes - the average Japanese does not pay as much attention as the average gajin. Thats a huge generalization, I a
  7. Yup, that number is nice too Danz - Hope youre enjoying this sweet Fall weather withit...
  8. Nice thread going - I think the introduction of patrol who are snowboarders is an excellent idea. Boarders and skiers both have their positives and negatives when riding. But, more importantly, each individual rider must respect his/her level and pay attention, just like when driving a car or riding a bike. Just because were on a mountain, even backcountry, doesnt mean there isnt any traffic. Each person must take responsibility for his/her actions. If more people LOOKED before turning, or like Ocean pointed out, watched the line of the person in front of you, mishaps wouldnt happen so muc
  9. What is a nice cream? Did you blow your wad in your pants again?
  10. Have any of yall gotten with somebody from work before? Ive been told not to from a few mates but was wondering if there are any good experiences... If not, theres always the konpa this weekend and a wedding on Saturday
  11. Pachinko sucks $! Thats all there is to say. Ive done it with one of my "putarou" friends who plays it for a living. Mind you, this guy makes double what you JETs are making but the way he does it is illegal - shocking machines, having a "kone" to know which machines will be paying out which usually cost him a certain percentage of his winnings that go to the manager, and blah blah blah. I found NOTHING in pachinko other than I wasted my money, time, came out smelling like $!, had a migrane that would go away for a month, and was so tense from the noise, lights, and staring at the balls
  12. I saw an ad last night for Nestle and they were on a ski field working on the lifts!!!! Have ya seen it? Mmmm, almost makes me wanna go out and buy some of their product
  13. Danz, Have you ever demoed the K2 AK enemys? Would still like to have a twintip for all mountain... Havent heard too many positives about pocket rockets - seems theyre really soft?? Rossi XXs would be sweet. Id get em if I could get last years model on clearance!!!
  14. Danz, Havent seen those skis except for in a magazine. Look pretty sweet. I keep looking around for a good pow ski but just cant decide anything. Got any suggestions?
  15. Talisker, Sweet observation mate. I cant wait for the Xmas vacation - Gonna be up in Niseko!!
  16. You might wanna try Fuji Rock - might be a little bit more your style. Finally decided to check it out this year and it was pretty cool. Lots of Japanese hippies there. If you feel like paying 15,000 for a one day tix.
  17. One of my favs - The Usual Suspects. An awesome movie!! And, I just saw SIGNS last night. I think Mel Gibson was terrific and should be nominated for an Oscar for that role.
  18. I dont think its that bad... I mean from a country that invented natto - YUK But, if youre drinking maccha an anko-type candy goes really well with it. Rach, That is by far the biggest frown Ive seen. You must not like anko eh?
  19. nudity on the slopes, Im up for it. Just as long as its not during a whiteout...
  20. I prefer mine Nama if ya know what I mean. Its like eating octopus right when its been killed and when you eat the tenticles and theyre still moving going down your throat.... Yum!!! That feels so weird but taste great. Grasshoppers are also pretty good with some fresh lemon squeezed on. I was thinking of trying Sake next time...
  21. Danz, Youll often hear of it in Shikoku and Kyushu too. And, anywhere else you throw some seeds... NoFakie, Yeah, the soldiers found out about it here during the occupation and that soon came to a halt. Kinda makes ya wonder what happened to those wonderful little bags of shroomz you could pick up... gotta hate the way they fix loopholes.
  22. I know many of you out there have boy/girlfriends and husbands/wives from different countries. I have, err, was, dating the same girl (Japanese) for well over 3 years and something that always caused fights with us would be her immaturity when it came to other women, specifically gaijin women. Now, I understand this but am curious what problems other people might have.
