  1. actually... i think slalom skiis are actually shorter than mogul skiis this years...slalom are around 155-165cm these days (no joke...) my guess is todays mogul ski is about the same or a bit longer... if there are any 200+ skiis out there anymore, its only for downhill, and ski jumping... or for nostalgic purposes... danz
  2. tadaima... good to be back...hope everyone is well... just curious...what is the best way to get to cortina from tokyo...do they have red-eye buses? any help... an another skiing note...got to spend 4-days skiing at Jackson Hole, WY...there is nothing in japan that even comes close to that... over 1200 vert meters , all of it STEEP...no long run-offs...no closed trails...a fine mtn...and even had a 10inch pow pow day to boot... peace, danz
  3. cool... i can get the guy to land on his head... i cant read swedish...or whatever language that is... how do you play the damn thing... seems like another great site for my "work-related research..." danz

  6. mogski... have i ever told you how wise you are? well said... Ignorance is bliss... powder is even better... danz
  7. ameboll i'm just curious... have you ever skied in canada or western US...places like whistler blackcomb, jackson hole, aspen highlands, tahoe.... the stuff i'm talking about is modeled after how these resorts do stuff...and it works! i don't care how "trendy" things are in japan...basically, i am talking about diversifying the resorts here in japan... danz
  8. are you kidding... if more terrain was open with appropriate warnings, a la "EXPERT ONLY", it would not become crowded...japanese are , not meant to stereotype, but in general are very "safe"...or rather overprecautious... i.e. snow tires/chains are "required" if you drive to the mountain... you "must" go to the hospital if you have a stomach ache its too dangerous to set your binding dins past 6... the list goes on... the "fashionability" of skiing/boarding is limited to the curry rice lines, and the long flat gelandes... i say cut the ropes and be
  9. New England Patriots NFL Football Team (American football that is)... SUPER BOWL CHAMPS... New England consists of Massachussets Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Conneticut, and even parts of New York... that's it for todays lesson danz
  10. i think one of the points here is to make these ropped off areas accessible...that means safe...that means having ski patrol doing the necessary maintanance (avalanche control etc...)...of course weather or not they are even competent to do that is an entirely seperate thread.... yes, of course if its ropped that means more powder for you...but what about the one time you duck a rope and get injured...that is where the problem starts... man, resorts out in canada and US have huge bowl/gladed ski terrain that is well maintained...it doesn't get tracked as fast as you thi
  11. that japanese mogul skier is a cutie... especially in her rad skiing outfit... i am definetly tuning in... danz
  12. They are the Brand Spankin' New SUPER BOWL CHAMPS!!! ending New England's eternal drought of any type of sports championship... I don't expect any of you to understand... but today is a great day danz
  13. yo hutch... thanks for the powder offer...i might hold you to that... i'm heading back to the states for most of feb.. (going to ski Jackson Hole for 3days...yeee haw...ridem cowboy...) so won't know my march plans till i'm back cheers... danz ------------------ pray for snow
  14. mogski is a very wise man... Ask me if I believe in god...and I will respond "I believe in Powder" it is truly a life-changing/enhancing experience... any non-believers need only see the light once, and their lives will be changed forever danz
  15. they are really good at digging in waist deep powder under lifts to recover some idiots glove... I actually felt sorry for a japanese ski patroller once...US ski patrolers would probably slap you in the face if you asked them to retrieve your stupidity... danz
  16. my fellow comrades in powder... i would love to take some action... anyone in here proficient enough in japanese to put together sometype of generic letter to send to the resort of our choice?? I'll give it a shot, but it will take me a while...and i don't think i can do it during work (i have to spend my time reading this board instead... ) danz
  17. well...this is turning into an interesting discussion indeed... as much as I may not understand what goes into to running a resort...I am not blind... clearly, there is no money put into upgrading all those slow double/single lifts to high speed quads...clearly there is no money going into maintainance (i.e. unropping runnable trails)...clearly there is no money into training lifties (lift lines here is more like sheep hearding)...clearly there is no money going into making any facilities modern... i've been to 10 different resorts here, and i really feel like i'm skiing
  18. my understanding is like this... off-piste means not a marked trail... but in the context of most of the threads here, it also means accessible by lifts, therefore within the bounds of the resort... backcountry is where you head out on your on...bc gear and knowledge should be a prerequisite... danz
  19. hutch... you've done a damn good job of promoting hakouda...and i am damn near decided to make a trek out there, but it won't be until march... what's the skinny on hakouda in march... and are you a guide out there?? or could you recommend any good ones... thanks... danz ------------------ pray for snow
  20. Lets Mobilize! but we need a better slogan name.... Ocean11, badmigrane,mogski...get your creative juices flowing... danz
