  1. batteries are terrible for the environment let alone thinking about the slaves who mine it in the congo - read coltan. I'm sure ur Eco friendly, posting ur message by way of a coconut computer transmitted through the ether by renewable energy sources.......unfortunately everyone else in the 1st world (which includes 99.9999999% of the snow sports community) doesn't have the advantage of a zero carbon footprint for their hobbies yes and no. being aware of these issues is a start and has helped me change my consumption habits. i try to splitboard more than use lifts and machinery
  2. true. google the norwegian institute of science and technology study. mining for coltan is cheap when its slave labour using their hands.

  4. capita charlie slasher. easily one of the cheapest dedicated powder boards on the market and theyre awesome too. i got one from ebay brand new from usa for $330USD delivered to Australia. im curious how you break boards riding powder. i barely even scratch them let alone broken one in 10 years,
  5. Yeah works for me, shut 'em all down I say. The walk will set you free. +1. my favourite way to ski.
  6. thats the problem. people only see the successful businesses. they don't see the ones who lose everything.
  7. hes got a very steep hill to climb if he's poor. those camps are full of rich kids. then there are rich kids who have their own personal coaches. its a rich mans sports no matter how you look at it. think ski racer kids. also if hes already 17 hes pretty much too old. anyway good luck to him.
  8. from what i know, to get sponsored your options are; contests - wins/podiums film - video parts expeditions - do something unique you can sell to magazines/manufacturers. maybe he is thinking something like camp of champions in whistler. its not a turn-pro school (i dont think there is such a thing) but there are plenty of camps that have pro teachers.
  9. no im in the food retail business but i see it all the time. people talking about business who have no idea how much it costs to run a business. i cant even begin to imagine how much rent is in whistler village. stores come and go every season.
  10. obviously the prices ARE reasonable since many millions of people pay those prices all over the world and some businesses make money doing it. since when is expensive=ripoff anyway. noone is deceiving anyone on what they are renting. every transaction in australia would be deemed a ripoff to some people here.
  11. anyway.... as a business owner, i can understand why these places charge whatever prices they do. rent, wages, stock etc. it all adds up and they have to make a living somehow. i really dont think anyone in the ski rental business is making bank but who knows. besides, the vast majority of users on this forum arent the target market. rentals are mostly for punters and weekend warriors who ski like 5 times a year. im very happy to rent a set of skis for $50 to go skiing that one day a year im not snowboarding.
  12. most places seem pretty reasonable. best value board rental has got to be gentemstick in niseko. 2000 yen a day to rent a board worth 200 000 yen.
  13. im renting from toyota sapporo this upcoming january. was painless and easy. im not surprised they dont have roof racks on honshu. i attempted to rent from them on honshu but they dont seem to have their shit together, didnt know about availability, hard communicating and just didnt want my money generally. i stayed at goryu the past 2 years. for a family its gonna be a nightmare getting around by public transport. for me, as a young guy who's used to backpacking, it was easy but getting to other resorts took about 30-60 minutes each day on trains/buses or a combo of both. i dont mind t
  14. Beats by Dr Dre are really good. do your research. i use audiotechnica. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cdbn_pmxFic
  15. i think he means, without a rental car he wouldnt be able to achieve his ski plans which probably involves driving around and taking lines outside resort boundaries. thats the primanry reason why i am renting a car.
  16. you might wanna look up what downforce means. it has nothing to do with weight.
  17. they dont generate any downforce. they are shaped for to provide less drag. boxes are far more expensive than racks. the roof rack cost an extra 1050yen for 30 days from toyota sapporo.
