advise for our ski holiday 2014
Dunga replied to manfredk's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Top post pan-head. Covers most things you need to know if you're going on a ski trip to Japan. Re Liquid tours, some mates and I picked up a Jestar/liquid tours package this year to Hakuba staying at the Lab for 6days on the snow. Accommodation was more like a backpackers but the people running it were really nice and helped out as much as they could. Made for some large nights out with the team at the Lab and the owner of liquid tours (28yr old wanker). All that aside, for $2100 for flights from Melbourne (normally $700-1200 depending on sales), transfers to and from the airport, acc -

Anyone got some recommendations on good gortex pants that cope well with the occasional rain session in Oz? -

All we need now is a Ho!Bag. Those douchebags look good. On a side note, had to replace my bindings with a new pair due to the rachet braking on my ride capo. Picked up some burton cartel from dogfunk, 20% off. -
hakuba Happo review, 20 & 23 Jan

The views were amazing, it truly is a resort that is worthy of the international stage. It's not on the scale of whistler or chamonix, but they would be more like if hakuba had all its runs on one mountain. -

Actually the more I think about Happo the more I think of it like Disney land. Don't get sucked into the "popular" areas and you will avoid the lines for the lifts. -
Hit up happo, got the legs working with some long runs top to bottom of Risen right the way down into Nakyama. Forgot how massive this resort is. We progress across the resort from left to right, encountering some craters for moguls in both the Olympic courses. (What is with the Japanese and their obsession with moguls?) We decided to have lunch up usagidaira terrace. Tasty katsu curry for lunch , which we then watched 100s of people line up for a photo with the icey pole cartoon character. Such a strange phenomenon. I looked at the area next to the alpen quad an thought it looked mi

Did you try 902 in Echoland? Pretty sure last year they were stocking them. Cant remember the name of the shops i went into in Echoland, but didnt find any around. Instead spent my $$$ on some Bose QC3's, helped on the flight home, could actually hear the movies and sleep without distraction. 35,000 yen was good value (roughly $370AU) when they go for $450AU RRP back home. -

So I looked around Hakuba with no success. That's ok, had a blast all the same, some epic pow out there at the moment. -
