  1. There is one bush with about 15cms left of snow to get covered up. We are doing fine for snow this season the quaility has been rather on the light side though. This is the first patch of sunshine in along time. due to many winds during most of the storms that lift would never have opened anyways.
  2. Really re-think your approach. Japanese arent going to listen to some guy that comes to ski for 3 months. In the grand picture Niseko doesnt need to expose itself to the risk of opening such terrain. Maybe some sort of guided tours into there but other than that why would they expose themselves to risk.
  3. Look Mitch no offense but in my experence in Japan, the Japanese rarely listen to someone living here part time. Best that you get some longer term resdient that speaks very good Japanese to push the issue. There are a few big names up there that ring a bell that will have alot more pull.
  4. It is also a big bowl or really 3 or 4 of them. The wind plays a big part at Cortina.
  5. Bad fish on the menu today, would rather be having a nice slice of pizza or a bowl of tan tan men. I really am worried about being bored and drinking myself silly during non busy periods.
  6. I think it may be work or boredom beers that keeps me beside kyoto sensei. Money is one thing I'm doing fine with.
  7. We do alot of big renovations ourselves every year. For really good inslulation and proper good paints, carpets etc we shop online. The selection is quite good. For wood and basic stuff like screws we just use komeri in town. Also when we want some things we go ask a building company to order stuff as well. You pay more for some stuff but they have access to way better materials.
  8. Ive dug down at the top of happo and there is more snow than 150cms base up there. The rule isnt the snow the rule is the bush has to be covered on the piste run. Some years if the snow pushes the bushes down early the resort can fire up the lift. We had quite the year for rain so I wouldnt be surprised if the bushes were a bit higher. This year has seen light snow and quite cold weather for Hakuba in general. Like most places in Japan I have skied powder every day that ive skied and Ive only skied at Happo so far. Also have been putting down some great lines in the BC and slack country as wel
  9. The question becomes what do you want to ski? Do you want to hike a bit and ski some nice back country or have the a better chance to have lift access powder? All of Japan has a chance to get a few big storms through all of March but Honshu will have many more high pressure days. The back country is more like the alps in places like Hakuba. But again ask yourself that important question and your can answer your own question easily.
  10. Sad news for sure. Try inline skating even a tiny bit bofore the season it helps your muscle memory and reduces the pain.
  11. rode some nice trees yesterday. Cortinas trees are open for riding as well.
  12. first bit of sun in a few days. New snowblower comes today or tomorrow just in time.
  13. Still snowing off to shovel the school with the kids half day over.
  14. Tuby Pete has lots of friends in Hakuba so that would be why he is worried. It is much easier to ski with friends and ski more interesting stuff than to ski alone. The Avalanche conditions in the alpine are quite high right now a couple of funky layers going on with massive snow on the way.
  15. The Frozen roads should be fun tonite. I bet a few people get caught flat footed without proper tires
