Rome Snowboards
SantaCruz replied to Tubby Beaver's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
The prices on the Evo website do not include any sales tax. The amount of sales tax varies from state and even on the county and city level. But the nice thing is that there's 0% sales tax for online purchases from sites which are headquartered in a different state. Like when I put a Hovercraft on order from some place based in Minnesota I paid no sales tax which was awesome. The lame aspect of this for me is that Amazon and REI are both based in Washington state, so I have to pay sales tax for any purchases there. I have no idea how this all translates to international purchases though, so a -

niseko Finally get to ski Niseko
SantaCruz replied to Kellyg's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Nah man, almost certainly not this season. The exchange rate is just to brutal at the moment. Unless my plan to win the lottery pans out, don't think it's gonna happen Going to try and hit a few new places in the States and Canada though. -
If I was in Japan I'd be down as well. Cheers

Powder board for a big guy
SantaCruz replied to SantaCruz's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Tripler, I've got a Riders Choice BTW 165cm Wide. My understanding is that it's more or less the same board as the Skunk Ape. Took it to Niseko and it performed admirably for me, so the 172 Skunk should be super solid. Looking forward to a report once you get it out on some pow! -
Flow bindings?
SantaCruz replied to tripler's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I have a pair of Flows, they're about 4 or 5 years old now. What I love about them is that once you get the fit dialed in you don't have to mess around with it anymore. And in my experience it's been the snuggest/most firm fit I've ever had from the bindings I've tried. My boot is really locked in. The negatives are the release in powder and deep snow. I've ran across that many times and it's very frustrating. But I think the models now a days have ratchets in addition to the snappable high back. I'd imagine that this should solve that problem. Slightly OT but I just ordered a pair o -

They keep bumping out the shipping date. Apparently they haven't gotten the boards from Jones yet. -

I'm seeing some 2012 Jones boards pop up as pre-orders/backstock on some websites now. So far I've seen Hovercraft, Hovercraft split, Solution and Mountain Twin. I put a Hovercraft 160 on pre-order from some place in Minnesota. $400 w/ no tax and no shipping Still keeping my eyes peeled for a Flagship 168W, I haven't seen any of those up for pre-order yet. -
No (less?) pain
SantaCruz replied to Ezorisu's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
I posted on Jones Snowboards FB: "Leaning heavily towards picking up a Jones board this next season. I've narrowed it down to either a Flagship 168W or Hovercraft 160. Could anyone advise me about which would work better for a guy my size? 6ft 5in, 220, size 14 boot. Cheers." They replied: "Hard call James. The both work well in everything but if I could only pick one board it would be a Flagship. It is the most versatile snowboard I have ever ridden. Hope that helps. Jeremy" Direct reply from Jeremy? -
Cheers perl, I'm in Seattle myself. Where abouts you at, Issaquah?

The 2012 Hovercraft will come in 160 as well. The impression that I've gotten is that it runs shorter compared to other boards. But still, I feel ya on the length thing. I'm trying to decide between Flagship 168W or Hovercraft 160. 8cms is a big diff! I've heard that Jones Snowboards are pretty responsive if you ping them on their FB page, so maybe it's worth asking them if the 160 would work for you. -

Ezo, how's the Hovercraft? Thinking about getting either that or a Flagship this coming season. -

Nah, Bill doesn't really work here any more. His focus is giving away his money. I am in the same building a Ballmer, although I've never seen the guy in here. -

Yep I do work at Microsoft. I'm not surprised that more icons (dirs, files and shortcuts) would cause it to slow down. What I am surprised by is that having a large file on the desktop causes it to slow down. For instance, having 50 small jpegs (< 1KB) compared to having 50 large ones (>= 100MB). The only reason I could see this being different are for file types whose icons reflect their contents. For instance thumbnails for photos. I haven't tried it myself, but I'm not disputing that it works or doesn't. A quick search on the net finds many people with similar a si -

The desktop is just a folder whose contents happen to be displayed. A heads up in case anyone else is looking, a Flagship 164 popped up on the Evo website. If it was a 168 Wide I'd be all over it. -
Nah, Trump isn't off his rocker. Don't think he really believes what he's saying, he just wants the publicity.
