Pre-season exercise
Jimmer replied to fat lump's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Haha, yeah sorry if I sound argumentative, just trying to get my point across. Like I said in my first post, the exercises I find best for skiing combine length strength and balance/core, for example in the gym just now I was doing jump squats onto a bosu, bicep curl/lunge onto the bosu, bridged calf curls (lie on the floor, feet on a swiss ball, keep your hips up, bend your leg), squats standing on a swiss ball, jackknifes and jackknife twists (toes on a swiss ball, bend your legs, keep your hips high, move knees to either side to twist), medicine ball twists (sit on floor, lean back, ke -

The reason I would say CV work doesn't help your skiing/boarding much is that you very rarely ski long enough to get out of breath, it's just not that much work. Obviously if you are finding yourself out of breath a lot, then yes, some work on your cv would be ideal. The stregth in your legs that you gain from cycling is good, but not very ski specific, you don't use your muscles in that way whilst skiing/boarding. Re. Jynxx 'forget about muscle bulk' I was working out in the same gym as a lot of the ski teams this season in NZ and I can tell you that they are all stacked, and lift a lot -

As a skiing specific exercise, running/cycling loads probably won't help much unless you are are trying to lose weight. I find doing lots of leg and core exercise helps, lots of exercises on bosu and swiss balls as well as general weight conditioning to help against injury, plus yoga for flexibility. If you cycle 40 miles a day, your legs will be great at that, but you use different muscles, in a different way, whilst you are skiing/boarding. -
Big Air Events ?
Jimmer replied to sand's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
Last year there were a few big air comps in Niseko, and one at the snow festival in Sapporo as well. The Hano park has a freestyle series, one rail jam, one slope, and one big air. Hirafu has a big air as part of a mogul comp, and Village did one as part of their spring festival. There'll be posters around town advertising them I am sure. -
My house has 2 in a very small room, never had to pee quite so badly that they have been used in tandem though!

Niseko resorts being developed?
Jimmer replied to ILoveZao's topic in Snow talk, trip reports, Japan avalanche & backcountry
The magic carpet over on the King side is only for NISS. Would be nice to have something similar over on Family, or maybe at the base of Ace as there's a bit more space there. The lifts here could really do with an overhaul, too many old slow lifts, and the positioning of some of them is bizarre, why do they want us to walk uphill so much? -

Pretty sure Black Diamond rents them, and NAC. -

I did say that it may have been the users fault, I have seen a lot of bindings broken by people standing on them as they put them on, it's really easy to do. It doesn't sound like this is what happened here though so I apologise for inferring that. I am not 'they' when refering to NBS rentals though. Your post was in agreement with Quattro who felt the binding should have been replaced, which it sounds like it was. -

Next time Cabletoh, take your business elsewhere Cableitoh said that it got replaced, no mention of them trying to 'pin it' on his friend. Also it sounds like your friend broke his binding, which is easy to do and not really NBSs fault. As has been said though, bottom line is you went away unhappy, which should have been dealt with by the staff. -

Maybe a little clarification is needed, did it actually take hours to find your booking, like literally over 2 hours? I'd be very suprised. Also, with the broken binding, how far could you have got before noticing it? The top of family? Hardly 'up in the mountains'. Not saying that you are wrong to be upset, sounds like poor customer service, but it does sound like you are exaggerating a bit. -

I took your post to hold a certain amount of sarcasm! Apologies if it didn't. Who are you? I can't see profiles so have no idea. And I am not the only person who was influenced by ski movies to come here, when I asked a new guy what brought him here, he said 'Believe' as well.

I think part of the reason Niseko is big is because of the skiers who filmed here. I know that if it wasn't for Tanner in Believe, JP in Reasons, Sage in Anamoly etc I wouldn't have heard of it and wouldn't be working here. I bet the coverage Black Diamond has gotten from some of those movies won't have been too bad for them either!
