  • Yuzawa Now: Wednesday 5th February 2014

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 35cm Snowfall at base this season 468cm Posted on Wednesday 5th February 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. This is the kind of report I like writing, especially after all that warm stuff going on over the last week. Yes, it has been snowing and we got a decent amount too. Strong winds overnight mean it's difficult to put a number on it, but there was over 30cm on my car outside and in places it looks more than that. Resorts that report numbers are reporting the following as their haul of fresh overnight: Naeba - 30-40cm Kagura - 60cm Maiko Snow Resort - 40cm Some of the resorts are adding big chunks of cm to their official snow depths this morning, in the 40cm range. (Though curiously Kagura have got 60cm of fresh but not added any to the official snow depth!) But you can get the idea. What's even better is that it is continuing to snow now. The strong wind is still around and affecting some lifts - particularly up at Kagura it's only open from Mitsumata Ropeway to the Kagura Gondola so with Tashiro completely closed it's only a very limited area open up there. I can't find any other major issues with lifts, though you might expect some to be moving a bit smaller if the wind continues. Snow forecast to continue through the day and into tomorrow. Perhaps a break from the snow on Friday, but back to snow for the weekend. It's great to see winter return. If we get a fair bit today as well the slopes should have all got a good refresh. Long may it stay! --- Official resort snow depths @ Wednesday 5th February 2014, AM: Naeba: 220cm Kagura (Tashiro): 260cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 310cm NASPA Ski Garden: 230cm Gala Yuzawa: 270cm Iwappara: 190cm Yuzawa Kogen: 290cm Yuzawa Nakazato: 170cm Yuzawa Park: 160cm ---- Maiko Snow Resort: 240cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 220cm Joetsu Kokusai: 190cm Yuzawa Now 2013-2014 season Data as of Wednesday 5th February 2014 Total snowfall at base so far 468cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 35 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 40cm (11th and 13th January) November 2013 snowfall 5cm reported on 1 day December 2013 snowfall 131cm reported on 14 days January 2014 snowfall 297cm reported on 19 days February 2014 snowfall 35cm reported on 1 day Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. • Yuzawa Now: Saturday 1st February 2014

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 433cm Posted on Saturday 1st February 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. The snow yesterday morning didn't amount to much but it was of course better than that pesky 'r' stuff falling! This morning there's no new cm to report, and it's a sunny morning. Not deep blue skies, but more overcast as the morning moves on. A feel good morning all the same, even though snow conditions are of course not perfect at the moment. Local forecasts still tell us to expect it to rain tomorrow. Whether it will higher up or not is unclear but if you are out tomorrow higher up is definitely recommended. Temps tomorrow might approach double digits, so it will be very mild borderline warm. We want cold of course and happily we can expect a return to more winter like conditions from Tuesday. Hopefully some decent deliveries of fresh snow as well. So for now hope you have a good weekend and enjoy it for what it is. --- Official resort snow depths @ Saturday 1st February 2014, AM: Naeba: 200cm Kagura (Tashiro): 260cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 310cm NASPA Ski Garden: 203cm Gala Yuzawa: 280cm Iwappara: 155cm Yuzawa Kogen: 270cm Yuzawa Nakazato: 150cm Yuzawa Park: 150cm ---- Maiko Snow Resort: 280cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 220cm Joetsu Kokusai: 210cm Yuzawa Now 2013-2014 season Data as of Saturday 1st February 2014 Total snowfall at base so far 433cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 34 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 40cm (11th and 13th January) November 2013 snowfall 5cm reported on 1 day December 2013 snowfall 131cm reported on 14 days January 2014 snowfall 297cm reported on 19 days February 2014 snowfall 0cm Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. • Yuzawa Now: Sunday 23rd February 2014

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 637cm Posted on Sunday 23rd February 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Another 10cm since yesterday - the car didn't move yesterday and that's what is on the top of the car this morning. It is a bit early for some of the resorts to report and so the numbers below are not updated for today - but from what is available, Maiko are reporting 10cm, Kagura are reporting 5cm and Naeba just a dusting. It was snowing for pretty much all of the day yesterday. There was very light lazily falling snow earlier this morning but it seems to have stopped now, at least here at town level and probably continuing on the mountains. Cloud and light snow showers seems to be the general forecast for the area today, followed by clearer conditions tomorrow and beyond. Or perhaps before as I can see that there's some blue sky already over the Kagura and Naeba areas. We might get to see some of that a bit later here too... Should be good snow conditions this morning. By all accounts it is going to warm up considerably from Tuesday. Daytime temps up to around 7 degrees around Wednesday perhaps. --- Official resort snow depths @ Sunday 23rd February 2014, AM: Naeba: 280cm Kagura (Tashiro): 280cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 330cm NASPA Ski Garden: 315cm Gala Yuzawa: 380cm Iwappara: 260cm Yuzawa Kogen: 330cm Yuzawa Nakazato: 260cm Yuzawa Park: 260cm ---- Maiko Snow Resort: 370cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 290cm Joetsu Kokusai: 250cm Yuzawa Now 2013-2014 season Data as of Sunday 23rd February 2014 Total snowfall at base so far 637cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 51 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 40cm (11th and 13th January) November 2013 snowfall 5cm reported on 1 day December 2013 snowfall 131cm reported on 14 days January 2014 snowfall 297cm reported on 19 days February 2014 snowfall 204cm reported on 17 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. • Yuzawa Now: Friday 28th February 2014

The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It's not a very exciting one today and not the best way to end February... it's raining, even up at GALA Yuzawa and Kagura by all accounts. We are hoping that it will ease off this morning and leave us with just a cloudy day. The good thing is that it won't be quite as warm as it was the last few days, but there's still be a high of about +5 today in town. We might see some rain tomorrow as well, though hopefully it might be cold enough at higher elevations for it to be snowing. OK so I want to talk about snow! Nothing major on the weekly forecast and no major freeze either, though it seems there is a chance of snow showers now and again. All very borderline and weak though. Sorry I can't bring more exciting news. • Yuzawa Now: Sunday 2nd March 2014

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 639cm Posted on Sunday 2nd March 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. A splashing of snow overnight here, though just 1cm on the top of my car where it was parked in the Ishiuchi area just outside of Yuzawa. Resorts around town are reporting from a few cm to up to 5cm of snow overnight. Earlier on it was actually raining here but that was short-lived and it is just cloudy now. Hearing varied reports from people out on the slopes yesterday. Ranging from really poor snow conditions to not so bad higher up. Certainly far from great and very spring like conditions at the moment until we hopefully get a March topup. Will it happen? Tuesday aside when it's due to be sunny, there is snow forecast each day to the end of the week and so there are signs of hope. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It was rain on and off for times yesterday, turning into snow in the afternoon but clearing by evening. Snow on and off this morning and a few cm has fallen overnight, and currently it is around 0 degrees in town. Resorts are reporting up to 5cm of snow on the slopes. We are expecting to see the sun tomorrow and it will be a bit warmer, but after that it's looking like we can expect snow clouds to be with us through the rest of the week. How much snow will they bring? I dare not guess, but let's hope we have a nice early March surprise in store. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Yesterday was.... very wet. It was raining for most of the day down at town level, though wet snow I believe falling higher up. It wasn't until late night when the sprinklers started doing their thing meaning that the snow had arrived, along with strong winds as well for a while. The good news is that this morning we have fresh snow. 20cm or so around town and 30cm being reported by Kagura. Great to report that, and also that it is still snowing quite heavily now and expected to continue so we should be starting to make up for the damage that we had done to us yesterday. It is still quite windy though, and Kagura is only part open - from the Mitsumata Ropeway to the Kagura Number 1 romance lift. (Tashiro is closed for the day due to wind). Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 40cm Snowfall at base this season 703cm Posted on Friday 7th March 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Conditions changing before our eyes here as there are some breaks in the snow clouds and blue sky starting to open up. The forecast for the day is continued snow so this might just be temporary but the mountains are looking fantastic this morning. Why? All that fresh new snow! Yes, really great news this morning as we had snow falling for most of yesterday and overnight. Get this, Kagura report 50cm of fresh. Naeba says 20-30cm. Maiko Snow Resort is also reporting a whopping 50cm! GALA Yuzawa have added 50cm this morning to their official snow depth. It would be great if more resorts gave up the daily 'new snowfall' information rather than just (sometimes) adjust the snow depth - Kagura, for example, have been unchanged on 330cm for quite a long time now - but... There isn't quite as much as 50cm on the top of my car but still a decent delivery. How things can change in just a few days. Obviously I haven't been out on the snow yet but I am guessing it will be fantastic conditions this morning. So, current blue sky above parts of Yuzawa aside, snow is forecast for the day and tomorrow too. Not much wind this morning and all resorts look set to open as normal. It should be an excellent weekend. There is a chance of stronger winds in higher places, so I advise if you plan to go to Kagura to check their website early morning. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 30cm Snowfall at base this season 733cm Posted on Saturday 8th March 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. The good news continues today. Snow through the day yesterday - the morning clearing and blue sky was only temporary - and more snow overnight. There was at least 10cm yesterday, and 20cm on my car this morning so I'm calling for at least 30cm in town. Kagura report 30-50cm (and still does not change it's snow depth number!) Maiko report over 30cm. (My car reports over 30cm as I said). GALA Yuzawa snow depth is now up to 4m. Some of the official snow depth numbers are higher now after this snow than they have been at any other time this season. Goes to show hey? March is generally seen as something of a gamble for weather/snow conditions, but anyone around at the moment is on a 'win' for sure. The exact numbers aren't important, what is important is all that fresh snow. As yesterday, this morning the snow has eased and the clouds have broken and we have some blue sky. Like yesterday, it perhaps won't last as we are expecting the snow clouds to be around for the day. There's not much of a wind now, but stronger forecast for later. Right now though all resorts open as normal. Cloud/snow forecast for tomorrow. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Just under 10cm of new snow on the top of the car this morning, so that is since yesterday mid morning. Resorts report between a few cm and up to 10cm (at Kagura), so another thin layer to add to what we got before. Yesterday we had a bit of a clearing in the clouds earlier on but that soon clouded over again and it was snowing for most of the day. This morning is different. Clear blue skies above Yuzawa... a bit of a hazy feel in some directions but generally it is a beautiful morning and it should be great conditions whichever skijo is chosen. Hope you can get to enjoy it. More snow due tonight and tomorrow. --- Official resort snow depths @ Sunday 9th March 2014, AM: Naeba: 280cm Kagura (Tashiro): 280cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 330cm NASPA Ski Garden: 305cm Gala Yuzawa: 420cm Iwappara: 260cm Yuzawa Kogen: 310cm Yuzawa Nakazato: 220cm Yuzawa Park: 240cm ---- Maiko Snow Resort: 330cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 310cm Joetsu Kokusai: 230cm Yuzawa Now 2013-2014 season Data as of Sunday 9th March 2014 Total snowfall at base so far 738cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 58 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 40cm (11th, 13th January and 7th March) November 2013 snowfall 5cm reported on 1 day December 2013 snowfall 131cm reported on 14 days January 2014 snowfall 297cm reported on 19 days February 2014 snowfall 204cm reported on 17 days March 2014 snowfall 101cm reported on 7 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. • Yuzawa Now: Monday 10th March 2014

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 15cm Snowfall at base this season 753cm Posted on Monday 10th March 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It was a beautiful day yesterday. Lots of blue sky, hardly any wind. It warmed up a bit in the afternoon though not too much. By evening a few clouds were coming in and we were hearing on the news that the region might get up to 60cm of snowfall overnight! It seemed unlikely though it was snowing late night and we do have snow to report this morning. Nowhere near as much as 60cm, but 15-20cm or so in town and resorts reporting up to 20cm so a fairly decent refresh I would expect on the slopes. A fairly moderate wind outside at the moment and I see that operations at Kagura are being affected by stronger winds higher up - the Tashiro area is closed for the day with only the Mitsumata Ropeway to Kagura Number 1 Romance lift open this morning. All other resorts appear to be open as normal. With snow continuing to fall now it looks like in a big contrast to yesterday, visibility is generally poor out there. Snowfall due to ease off by early tomorrow morning. Hopefully less wind tomorrow too so Kagura can fully open. --- Official resort snow depths @ Monday 10th March 2014, AM: Naeba: 280cm Kagura (Tashiro): 280cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 330cm NASPA Ski Garden: 295cm Gala Yuzawa: 430cm Iwappara: 250cm Yuzawa Kogen: 310cm Yuzawa Nakazato: 220cm Yuzawa Park: 240cm ---- Maiko Snow Resort: 320cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 300cm Joetsu Kokusai: 250cm Yuzawa Now 2013-2014 season Data as of Monday 10th March 2014 Total snowfall at base so far 753cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 59 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 40cm (11th, 13th January and 7th March) November 2013 snowfall 5cm reported on 1 day December 2013 snowfall 131cm reported on 14 days January 2014 snowfall 297cm reported on 19 days February 2014 snowfall 204cm reported on 17 days March 2014 snowfall 116cm reported on 8 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa.
