- Yuzawa Now: Tuesday 11th February 2014
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 511cm Posted on Tuesday 11th February 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Periods of sun yesterday but mostly it was cloudy and we even got a bit of wet snow falling later on in the afternoon and evening. Result is a few cm or so on the ground this morning. Kagura are reporting 5-10cm, while resorts around town reporting up to 5cm or so. There's a lot of cloud around this morning but as I am writing this report the sun is peeking through as well and there is more and more blue patches of sky opening up before us. The forecast had cloud clearing up later on in the day so perhaps it's just happening sooner than expected. Tomorrow should be clear and sunny from early on in the day. The next decent snowfall is forecast for the weekend. --- Official resort snow depths @ Tuesday 11th February 2014, AM: Naeba: 230cm Kagura (Tashiro): 270cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 320cm NASPA Ski Garden: 225cm Gala Yuzawa: 310cm Iwappara: 180cm Yuzawa Kogen: 290cm Yuzawa Nakazato: 185cm Yuzawa Park: 180cm ---- Maiko Snow Resort: 280cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 250cm Joetsu Kokusai: 200cm Yuzawa Now 2013-2014 season Data as of Tuesday 11th February 2014 Total snowfall at base so far 511cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 41 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 40cm (11th and 13th January) November 2013 snowfall 5cm reported on 1 day December 2013 snowfall 131cm reported on 14 days January 2014 snowfall 297cm reported on 19 days February 2014 snowfall 78cm reported on 7 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. - Yuzawa Now: Monday 10th February 2014
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 508cm Posted on Monday 10th February 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Yesterday the snow was falling for most of the day again though not a huge amount to show for it really. 10cm being reported around resorts since yesterday. The Kanetsu Expressway was closed all the way from Nerima to Tsukiyono (in northern Gunma) until mid-afternoon yesterday due to the heavy snowfall in the Kanto area on Saturday. That meant that lots of people planning to visit by car on Sunday coming from the south very probably gave up on the idea. From what I saw of the slopes around town, it seemed less busy than usual for a mid season Sunday. Hope you didn't get stuck in traffic and encountered problems due to the weather over the weekend. OK this morning we have that bit of new snowfall. Half an hour ago the snow had eased off and we even got some blue skies appearing, it looked like we were going to have a fine day. But in the last 10 minutes or so it has clouded over again and snow is once more falling. Snow is indeed forecast for the day. But might the clouds break again? They seem to be in neighbouring regions this morning, so there's definitely a chance. Clear skies are forecast for tomorrow, which is a national holiday so should see popular places busier than a normal weekday. After that the next snow even seems to be lined up for around Friday. --- Official resort snow depths @ Monday 10th February 2014, AM: Naeba: 230cm Kagura (Tashiro): 270cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 320cm NASPA Ski Garden: 230cm Gala Yuzawa: 330cm Iwappara: 190cm Yuzawa Kogen: 290cm Yuzawa Nakazato: 185cm Yuzawa Park: 190cm ---- Maiko Snow Resort: 280cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 250cm Joetsu Kokusai: 200cm Yuzawa Now 2013-2014 season Data as of Monday 10th February 2014 Total snowfall at base so far 508cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 40 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 40cm (11th and 13th January) November 2013 snowfall 5cm reported on 1 day December 2013 snowfall 131cm reported on 14 days January 2014 snowfall 297cm reported on 19 days February 2014 snowfall 75cm reported on 6 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. - Yuzawa Now: Sunday 9th February 2014
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 503cm Posted on Sunday 9th February 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It was snowing for the day yesterday, with another 10cm or so down here in town during the day and perhaps another 5cm or so this morning. Kagura report 10cm of fresh; Maiko Snow Resort report 10cm. Tokyo reports more than that. Yes, Tokyo got more snow than us yesterday which is... odd. They don't need it, let it fall here! Looks like the snow down in the capital and other regions to the south has caused some real problems. Above problems may well affect the slopes today here as many people who made plans to be here this weekend will not have made it or just cancelled their plans. I am hearing of cancellations at hotels in the town, for example. OK so we have had 5cm or so more snow overnight and it has been snowing lightly this morning though as I write this seems to have stopped. Snow showers on and off during the day is what the forecast currently says. - Yuzawa Now: Saturday 8th February 2014
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 493cm Posted on Saturday 8th February 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Morning from Yuzawa and we do have some fresh snow to report, though only a bit. There was 5cm on my car, and a few resorts around town say the same, though curiously Kagura only say a dusting. That's from 7am though so perhaps the snow had only just started to fall at that time. Talking about Kagura they seem to have moderately strong wind up there and the Kagura Number 4 pair lift as well as the Kagura to Tashiro connecting course seem to be closed at the moment - they hope to get that open again once the winds calm down. Back down here in town it doesn't seem to be that windy. Light snow falling at the moment and snowy conditions basically forecast for all of today and tomorrow. It's not crazy cold, with a temperature of around -2C at the moment. --- Official resort snow depths @ Saturday 8th February 2014, AM: Naeba: 220cm Kagura (Tashiro): 270cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 320cm NASPA Ski Garden: 220cm Gala Yuzawa: 320cm Iwappara: 185cm Yuzawa Kogen: 290cm Yuzawa Nakazato: 180cm Yuzawa Park: 175cm ---- Maiko Snow Resort: 280cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 250cm Joetsu Kokusai: 200cm Yuzawa Now 2013-2014 season Data as of Saturday 8th February 2014 Total snowfall at base so far 493cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 38 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 40cm (11th and 13th January) November 2013 snowfall 5cm reported on 1 day December 2013 snowfall 131cm reported on 14 days January 2014 snowfall 297cm reported on 19 days February 2014 snowfall 60cm reported on 4 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. About another 10-15cm of snow being reported by resorts around town this morning since yesterday, as of 9am this morning it is snowing slightly in Yuzawa while I brushed that new layer of snow off the bonnet of the car. We are told to expect the snow to stop and leave us with a mostly just cloudy day. It is -5C at 9am so it's keeping cold. We're expecting it to not be quite as cold tomorrow - but snow is forecast for the day and perhaps Sunday too. With the refreshes of the last few days, conditions have taken a bit swing for the better since last weekend. - Yuzawa Now: Thursday 6th February 2014
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 10cm Snowfall at base this season 478cm Posted on Thursday 6th February 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It was cold out there yesterday, proper cold. A biting wind as well. Icicles coming down from rooftops. A real mid winter picture it was. A good thing of course, especially after just a few days previous. More snow overnight, perhaps 10cm or so at town levels, and resorts around town including Kagura reporting 10-20cm of fresh on the slopes. The wind means that there's places with more. Kagura is fully open this morning and so there should be some excellent untouched to be found up there as the main area was closed yesterday. Indeed there should be good conditions everywhere with the new snow we have. It is snowing at the moment and it's forecast to be snowing on and off during the day today. There's less wind at the moment though stronger winds are likely later on this afternoon. I'm glad to say it is remaining cold and should do tomorrow too even if the snow eases off as forecast. If you are coming for the weekend be prepared for snow to be falling as it seems we are due snow on Saturday and Sunday. The more the better in terms of the conditions out on the mountain. - Yuzawa Now: Wednesday 5th February 2014
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 35cm Snowfall at base this season 468cm Posted on Wednesday 5th February 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. This is the kind of report I like writing, especially after all that warm stuff going on over the last week. Yes, it has been snowing and we got a decent amount too. Strong winds overnight mean it's difficult to put a number on it, but there was over 30cm on my car outside and in places it looks more than that. Resorts that report numbers are reporting the following as their haul of fresh overnight: Naeba - 30-40cm Kagura - 60cm Maiko Snow Resort - 40cm Some of the resorts are adding big chunks of cm to their official snow depths this morning, in the 40cm range. (Though curiously Kagura have got 60cm of fresh but not added any to the official snow depth!) But you can get the idea. What's even better is that it is continuing to snow now. The strong wind is still around and affecting some lifts - particularly up at Kagura it's only open from Mitsumata Ropeway to the Kagura Gondola so with Tashiro completely closed it's only a very limited area open up there. I can't find any other major issues with lifts, though you might expect some to be moving a bit smaller if the wind continues. Snow forecast to continue through the day and into tomorrow. Perhaps a break from the snow on Friday, but back to snow for the weekend. It's great to see winter return. If we get a fair bit today as well the slopes should have all got a good refresh. Long may it stay! --- Official resort snow depths @ Wednesday 5th February 2014, AM: Naeba: 220cm Kagura (Tashiro): 260cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 310cm NASPA Ski Garden: 230cm Gala Yuzawa: 270cm Iwappara: 190cm Yuzawa Kogen: 290cm Yuzawa Nakazato: 170cm Yuzawa Park: 160cm ---- Maiko Snow Resort: 240cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 220cm Joetsu Kokusai: 190cm Yuzawa Now 2013-2014 season Data as of Wednesday 5th February 2014 Total snowfall at base so far 468cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 35 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 40cm (11th and 13th January) November 2013 snowfall 5cm reported on 1 day December 2013 snowfall 131cm reported on 14 days January 2014 snowfall 297cm reported on 19 days February 2014 snowfall 35cm reported on 1 day Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. The snow yesterday morning didn't amount to much but it was of course better than that pesky 'r' stuff falling! This morning there's no new cm to report, and it's a sunny morning. Not deep blue skies, but more overcast as the morning moves on. A feel good morning all the same, even though snow conditions are of course not perfect at the moment. Local forecasts still tell us to expect it to rain tomorrow. Whether it will higher up or not is unclear but if you are out tomorrow higher up is definitely recommended. Temps tomorrow might approach double digits, so it will be very mild borderline warm. We want cold of course and happily we can expect a return to more winter like conditions from Tuesday. Hopefully some decent deliveries of fresh snow as well. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Another 10cm since yesterday - the car didn't move yesterday and that's what is on the top of the car this morning. It is a bit early for some of the resorts to report and so the numbers below are not updated for today - but from what is available, Maiko are reporting 10cm, Kagura are reporting 5cm and Naeba just a dusting. It was snowing for pretty much all of the day yesterday. There was very light lazily falling snow earlier this morning but it seems to have stopped now, at least here at town level and probably continuing on the mountains. Cloud and light snow showers seems to be the general forecast for the area today, followed by clearer conditions tomorrow and beyond. Or perhaps before as I can see that there's some blue sky already over the Kagura and Naeba areas. We might get to see some of that a bit later here too... Should be good snow conditions this morning. By all accounts it is going to warm up considerably from Tuesday. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It's not a very exciting one today and not the best way to end February... it's raining, even up at GALA Yuzawa and Kagura by all accounts. We are hoping that it will ease off this morning and leave us with just a cloudy day. The good thing is that it won't be quite as warm as it was the last few days, but there's still be a high of about +5 today in town. We might see some rain tomorrow as well, though hopefully it might be cold enough at higher elevations for it to be snowing. OK so I want to talk about snow! Nothing major on the weekly forecast and no major freeze either, though it seems there is a chance of snow showers now and again. All very borderline and weak though. Sorry I can't bring more exciting news. - Yuzawa Now: Sunday 2nd March 2014
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 639cm Posted on Sunday 2nd March 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. A splashing of snow overnight here, though just 1cm on the top of my car where it was parked in the Ishiuchi area just outside of Yuzawa. Resorts around town are reporting from a few cm to up to 5cm of snow overnight. Earlier on it was actually raining here but that was short-lived and it is just cloudy now. Hearing varied reports from people out on the slopes yesterday. Ranging from really poor snow conditions to not so bad higher up. Certainly far from great and very spring like conditions at the moment until we hopefully get a March topup. Will it happen? Tuesday aside when it's due to be sunny, there is snow forecast each day to the end of the week and so there are signs of hope. Temps will be borderline mild though until around Thursday when things should get colder again. --- Official resort snow depths @ Sunday 2nd March 2014, AM: Naeba: 280cm Kagura (Tashiro): 280cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 330cm NASPA Ski Garden: 227cm Gala Yuzawa: 320cm Iwappara: 210cm Yuzawa Kogen: 280cm Yuzawa Nakazato: 210cm Yuzawa Park: 190cm ---- Maiko Snow Resort: 300cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 230cm Joetsu Kokusai: 210cm Yuzawa Now 2013-2014 season Data as of Sunday 2nd March 2014 Total snowfall at base so far 639cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 52 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 40cm (11th and 13th January) November 2013 snowfall 5cm reported on 1 day December 2013 snowfall 131cm reported on 14 days January 2014 snowfall 297cm reported on 19 days February 2014 snowfall 204cm reported on 17 days March 2014 snowfall 2cm reported on 1 day Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. - Yuzawa Now: Monday 3rd March 2014
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 642cm Posted on Monday 3rd March 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It was rain on and off for times yesterday, turning into snow in the afternoon but clearing by evening. Snow on and off this morning and a few cm has fallen overnight, and currently it is around 0 degrees in town. Resorts are reporting up to 5cm of snow on the slopes. We are expecting to see the sun tomorrow and it will be a bit warmer, but after that it's looking like we can expect snow clouds to be with us through the rest of the week. How much snow will they bring? I dare not guess, but let's hope we have a nice early March surprise in store. Not wanting to dampen that lot, but rain is likely before it turns into snow on Wednesday, at town level at least. The higher areas might escape the wet bit! --- Official resort snow depths @ Monday 3rd March 2014, AM: Naeba: 280cm Kagura (Tashiro): 280cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 330cm NASPA Ski Garden: 225cm Gala Yuzawa: 310cm Iwappara: 210cm Yuzawa Kogen: 280cm Yuzawa Nakazato: 210cm Yuzawa Park: 190cm ---- Maiko Snow Resort: 300cm Ishiuchi Maruyama: 220cm Joetsu Kokusai: 210cm Yuzawa Now 2013-2014 season Data as of Monday 3rd March 2014 Total snowfall at base so far 642cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 53 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 40cm (11th and 13th January) November 2013 snowfall 5cm reported on 1 day December 2013 snowfall 131cm reported on 14 days January 2014 snowfall 297cm reported on 19 days February 2014 snowfall 204cm reported on 17 days March 2014 snowfall 5cm reported on 2 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa.
