Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 10cm
Snowfall at base this season 503cm

Posted on Sunday 9th February 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here.

It was snowing for the day yesterday, with another 10cm or so down here in town during the day and perhaps another 5cm or so this morning. Kagura report 10cm of fresh; Maiko Snow Resort report 10cm. Tokyo reports more than that. Yes, Tokyo got more snow than us yesterday which is... odd. They don't need it, let it fall here! Looks like the snow down in the capital and other regions to the south has caused some real problems.

Above problems may well affect the slopes today here as many people who made plans to be here this weekend will not have made it or just cancelled their plans. I am hearing of cancellations at hotels in the town, for example.

OK so we have had 5cm or so more snow overnight and it has been snowing lightly this morning though as I write this seems to have stopped. Snow showers on and off during the day is what the forecast currently says. For today and for tomorrow too.
