- Myoko Now: Wednesday 19th February 2025
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata New snowfall at base 46cm Snowfall at base this season 1383cm Posted on Wednesday 19th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . "Furi sugi!" my neighbor called out to me—"Too much snow!" I had to agree, especially after dealing with someone else's stuck car, a miniature avalanche coming off a massive pile of snow (which I previously created with my snow machine), three blown sheer pins on said snow thrower and all kinds of delaying factors. Which means I am reporting late, but full info from all the resorts for a change! Hopefully lifts are running well, although Akakura Onsen does note that Yodel No. 5, the steep lift up to the highest point (known by locals and Maruyama, since it is a "round mountain") is closed. There wasn't as much snow as I expected, actually; could be that with the wind it's hard to get a good figure. Seemed like a lot during the hours of morning plowing, but it's also pretty dense. At the same time, it's also not well consolidated; stand on the snow and your leg is going to go down a long way. Stay safe, people, and enjoy the powder! - Shiga Kogen Now: Wednesday 19th February 2025
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 35cm Snowfall at base this season 682cm Posted on Wednesday 19th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Another large amount of snow since yesterday after some clearer periods during the daytime. It is really snowing heavily right now. Very early morning Yakebitaiyama was reporting 40cm; the tourism office is giving a big range of numbers (20cm at Hasuike and 70cm at Okushiga Kogen). Very limited visibility and... well, you've got to be committed to the cause to be out in these conditions! The heavy snow/wind conditions might generally have eased off by Friday bit there is still a chance that there is some snow over the weekend. It will surely be calmer, though. "How can there be 70cm of snowfall and the official snow depth number remains unchanged", someone asks. It seems unlikely, right? I think you need to ask the ski areas about that! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Madarao region of Nagano New snowfall at base 38cm Snowfall at base this season 851cm Weather overview Snow Wind NW Temperature - Visibility Varied Posted on Wednesday 19th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Good morning from a cold and snowy Madarao. The ski area is (only) reporting 20cm of fresh snowfall this morning, but my measurement is 38cm (and the webcam 'stick' seems to be similar to me). So, lots of fresh snow again and it's still coming down. We can expect snow clouds to be across the region until the weekend, but perhaps it will be calmer and less snow by then. We are enjoying much snowier February than last year and if we get much more we'll be starting to threaten the 'best ever' numbers of recent years for February in 2013 and 2022. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 11cm Snowfall at base this season 707cm Posted on Wednesday 19th February 2025 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from a cold Hakuba. So, not much going on... just the usual lots more snow! The record snowfall number for the day goes to Cortina ski area, which is reporting up to 40cm of snowfall on the mountain. Other ski areas seem to be saying there's up to 25cm or so in upper areas; there was just over 10cm on the top of my car this morning. Once again, unfortunately, wind is causing some problems to upper lifts around the ski areas. Hopefully things will be calmer tomorrow. Snow clouds might be with us through the weekend with heavy snow at times, but perhaps getting less so as we do head into the weekend. -------------------------------- ABLE Hakuba Goryu New snowfall (as reported by the ski area): Top: 25cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Top: 485cm Top: 235cm ------------ Hakuba 47 Winter Sports Park New snowfall (reported as 'todays snowfall' by the ski area): Top: 25cm Base: 10cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Top: 515cm Base: 260cm ------------ Hakuba Cortina New snowfall (reported by the ski area): 40cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 480cm ------------ Hakuba Happo-one New snowfall (as reported by the ski area): Kurobushi (1680m): 10cm Usagidaira (1400m): 3cm Nakiyama (800m): 0cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Kurobushi (1680m): 630cm Usagidaira (1400m): 310cm Nakiyama (800m): 205cm ------------ Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field New snowfall (reported by the ski area): Mountain Side: 20cm Village Side: 0cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Mountain Side: 360cm Village Side: 180cm ------------ Hakuba Norikura Onsen Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 460cm ------------ Jigatake New snowfall (reported by the ski area): 15cm Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 220cm ------------ Kashimayari Skijo Family Park Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 245cm ------------ Tsugaike Mountain Resort Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): Upper: 405cm Base: 189cm ------------ White Resort Hakuba Sanosaka Official snow depth (as reported by the ski area): 245cm Hakuba Now 2024-2025 season Data as Wednesday 19th February 2025 Total snowfall at base so far 707cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 57 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 38cm (28th December) November 2024 snowfall 42cm reported on 3 days December 2024 snowfall 278cm reported on 21 days January 2025 snowfall 235cm reported on 19 days February 2025 snowfall 152cm reported on 14 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . The wind and snow came as expected, right during the lunch hour yesterday. Kind of fun to be on the forested runs that are a Myoko feature and have the trees get stripped of all their snow by a big blast of wind. It was still really windy when I woke up early to start the day's plowing, but it calmed down before sunrise. It is dense snow, shaped and piled up by that wind. The kind of snow where it can be hard to move through boot-high powder unless you have a pretty good angle to the slope. It's calmed down at the moment, but we're supposed to get more wind today and especially later tomorrow, along with more snowfall. Lifts remain vexing, readers. Akakura Onsen's Yodel No. 1 did not run at all yesterday, even though the website said it was running. Today Akakan's Champion No. 3, the lift linking Onsen with Akakan, is also closed. Very early morning Yakebitaiyama was reporting 40cm of fresh and I am hearing reports of 30-70cm across the area. That biggest number coming from Okushiga Kogen. My measurement is 42cm. Lots of snow again. But some unfriendly weather conditions for the moment; conditions that are set to continue for perhaps a few more days to varying degrees. My own measurement from base is less than what the ski area has posted, but more than the nearby JMA measurement point (which is at 30cm). Whatever... there's lots. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . We're back to the snow and cold! Or, we were. Right now, there the clouds have cleared a bit and there's even a bit of blue sky. But it should be snowing again before too long and it's expected to continue through the week. Happo-one is reporting 50cm of fresh snowfall up at Kurobishi (sugoi!) but 0cm a few hundred meters away at Usagidaira (huh?!). And 15cm at the top of the Riesen quad lift. Curious. On the Hakuba Valley official website, Tsugaike is reporting 42cm of fresh snowfall and the 'season-so-far' total for that ski area is still stuck at 269cm. Funny!
