  • Shiga Kogen Now: Thursday 6th December 2012

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 4cm Weather overview Cloud, snow Wind Strong Temperature - Visibility Poor Posted on Thursday 6th December 2012 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . This morning there isn't much to see in Shiga Kogen with clouds covering the mountains, snow falling and some strong winds blowing things around as well. The conditions are affecting the resorts as well with Yokoteyama closed and only one lift moving at Kumanoyu rather than the multiple lifts that they have been running. It's not that cold actually but will probably get colder as the day progresses. We probably won't see too much snow fall today and tomorrow will likely see clearer skies but the weather forecasts for the coming weekend remain very promising. Expect the strong winds to stick around as well, so not that much of Shiga Kogen might be able to be operating through the storm. If we get the snow 'promised' though, next week should be good! Right now we have part of the following resorts open: Takamagahara Mammoth - 1 lift Ichinose Family - 2 lifts Yakebitaiyama - 1 gondola (No2 Gondola) Kumanoyu - 1 lifts Shiga Kogen Now 2012-2013 season Data as of Thursday 6th December 2012 Total snowfall at base so far 4cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 2 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 2cm (14th November and 6th December) November 2012 snowfall 2cm reported on 1 day December 2012 snowfall 2cm reported on 1 day Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Shiga Kogen. • Shiga Kogen Now: Saturday 2nd March 2013

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 484cm Weather overview Cloud, some sun Wind Moderate Temperature - Visibility Very good Posted on Saturday 2nd March 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Some 'wetness' yesterday... I can't bring myself to say the word... but a return to colder temps this morning and some snowfall as well, though it has stopped snowing now. Just a bit on the roads, enough to make them whiter than they were yesterday. I said the snow has stopped and actually there's a bit of sun out here in Maruike at the moment. Fast moving clouds mean it's out and then hidden again quickly. But as forecast, changeable conditions this morning. Some resort areas are reporting disruptions to lift operations. The wind should calm down for tomorrow and then this week we should see a run of clearer days but keeping fairly cold until the end of the week when a warm up again is likely. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . The snow started up again, as did the winds, and this morning I have about 20-25cm of fresh snow to report from Shiga Kogen. It was a cold start to the morning. The snow fall has cleared up and in the last hour or so the sun has been making some appearances. Still lots of cloud around but perhaps it's going to clear up. What does look very likely is a clear day tomorrow and more of the same through the coming week. Might stay colder for a few more days but in the 2nd half of the week we can expect some very spring like warmth. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 479cm Weather overview Clear and sunny Wind Light Temperature - Visibility Very good Posted on Thursday 28th February 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It is of course the last day of February and as they say here, spring from tomorrow. Not sure I agree with that, probably because I don't want spring to come and the fact that parts of Shiga Kogen open through until the end of May. That's another three months. But it does actually feel spring-like today. Warm and toasty out on the slopes with hardly any wind either. Blue skies up above. It's calm and quiet. Similar, maybe warmer still, forecast for tomorrow. Temperatures set to plummet though overnight into Saturday and snow along with windy conditions forecast for Saturday as of now. Rain is very likely lower down in the valley but we will probably escape such horrors. One of the advantages of being up high like we are here. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Late report today - apologies! It has been a fine day here though. About 10-15cm of snow on the slopes by early this morning and while the forecast for the day was cloud and snow at times, it has cleared up to be a fine day. Blue skies up there this afternoon and as we fast approach evening it is still nice and bright. Dark will be upon us quickly now though. There has been a moderate wind in places through the day but all areas have been open as normal. The forecast for tomorrow is cloud with a chance of sun and snow showers. So, take your pick! A higher chance of the snow in the evening and into Monday by the looks... The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Cold morning here in Shiga Kogen, back to what we are used to mid winter. Lots of snow falling as well. And windy too. It's a real cold, blustery mid-winter kind of morning out there. And more of it I say. It is good for us to get a considerable amount of snow today, so bring it on. Visibility is poor this morning and so care needed all round. Make sure you know where you're going. Some lifts may be affected by the conditions. Kumanoyu have a temperature of 13C this morning but I think that might well actually be -13. ;) Tomorrow should be clearer and so with the new snow from today should be good. Tomorrow is also the first day of a three day long weekend in Japan and one of the more popular weekends of the season - so it will get busy! But at the same time, increasingly more blue sky showing as the clouds seem to be intent on moving on. The sun is out. Looks like it will be a fine day here. After that very warm day yesterday, temps are back down well into the minus and it is much more like what we expect. A good chill in the air. We'll be back to something warmer tomorrow but may get a bit of snowfall at the same time. After that back down to cold cold from Tuesday through into the weekend with a mix of clearer weather and sometimes snow showers. • Naeba Now: Sunday 17th February 2013

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 15cm Snowfall at base this season 633cm Weather overview Snow Wind Moderate to strong Temperature - Visibility Variable Posted on Sunday 17th February 2013 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . What a weekend this is turning out to be. This morning Kagura say they got another 50cm. I'm not up there to confirm that with my own eyes, but I'll go with it. So, added to the 40-50cm from yesterday, I make that up to 1m in the last 2 days. That's impressive. What's more.... it's all going to be open! Get on up there, it's going to be renamed Paradise today I reckon. OK, so that might be cheesy, but you know what I'm getting at. That official snow depth curiously is not moving again today. I always get the feeling that Kagura don't want that number to rise above 4m. (Watch it do that by tomorrow, now I have said that!) Here at base in Naeba, it's more like 15cm on the ground, though the resort is reporting 20cm. Still, a nice new layer of snow to add to what we got yesterday and so conditions are good. It is still snowing early on this morning but the forecast tells us to expect conditions to clear up, it might even end up sunny by this afternoon. ---- Official resort snow depth: Naeba - 300cm Kagura - 380cm Naeba Now 2012-2013 season Data as of Sunday 17th February 2013 Total snowfall at base so far 633cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 46 days Most snowfall observed on 1 day 60cm (10th December) November 2012 snowfall 3cm observed on 1 day December 2013 snowfall 219cm observed on 15 days January 2013 snowfall 283cm observed on 19 days February 2013 snowfall 128cm observed on 11 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Naeba.
