The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . It's post-main-season time, but we got snow overnight, so I have to get the few cms up on the total! It sounded like a lot; I woke up by the sound of snow sliding off the roof and bouncing off the lower roofs. Normally this means a pretty good snowfall, but it turned out to be heavy, big ice crystals. Still snow, though. Akakan also added 10cm to their total, so the fall was heavier higher up. It felt pretty cold, too, although the sun was warm - really warm. It's disappeared back into the clouds at the moment, although there are bits of blue sky here and there. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Naeba for the last time this season everybody. As predicted today is an absolute corker of a day. Perfect blue skies and relatively cold temperatures have combined to give us a perfect day to just get out there and enjoy the mountain. Conditions will get a little slushy later on but it is not going to be the slush fest that is more standard for a closing day. Many thanks for all of you loyal readers who stayed with us through the season. There will be no more Naeba Now daily reports from here on in this season. As it currently stands Naeba is planning to operate on weekends only, and then daily through Golden Week from 29th April until Sunday 7th May. This is obviously subject to change relatively fast however as we come into the progressively warmer temperatures of spring. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . This is it folks --- the last day of the 2016/2017 season here in Madarao. And what a beauty of a morning it is too. It is going to be a fun day and no doubt pretty sad come this evening too. In terms of snow, there could surely be another week or two of life in the season. But the resort plans this to be the last day, so that's it. The official snow depth on this last day of the season is 250cm and the mountain really is in excellent shape when you consider it is early April. I have had a really great season and from what I can tell when speaking to people on the lifts, so have a lot of visitors. And there have been more of them from overseas this season too - indeed this season there has been another large increase in people reading my reports. Thank you! I'm going to enjoy a few lie-ins this coming week, and then perhaps get out to Nozawa and Shiga Kogen for a bit more skiing. as they are open into May. Ah, but I did prepare this yesterday >>> A look back at March 2017 and the season so far So, it is that time of the month again; time for me to take a bit of a look back at the month of March and the season so far. I’m going to keep it short this time and leave most of my words for my main season review that will be appearing when the season finishes in early May. Here’s the observed snowfall measured by me at base during the month of March over the last five seasons: March 2017: 83cm March 2016: 109cm March 2015: 139cm March 2014: 113cm March 2013: 164cm And the total observed snowfall measured by me at base during the season up until the end of March: 2016/2017 season until the end of March 2017: 688cm 2015/2016 season until the end of March 2016: 986cm 2014/2015 season until the end of March 2015: 1141cm 2013/2014 season until the end of March 2014: 1150cm 2012/2013 season until the end of March 2013: 1459cm Clearly, we are going to end this season with about 3m less than last season and about 4.5m behind the previous two seasons. That’s a fair chunk, but let me again please emphasise that many people coming here will of course not be comparing with previous seasons and have been plenty happy with what they have experienced. Still, I’m hoping that next year we’ll see a change in trend and get to see more. Looking forward to this month, to get an idea of how much snow we might be able to expect in April, here’s how much there has been observed in recent years: How much snow fell (AT BASE) in April 2017: ?? And remember, especially in late season there might be no fresh snowfall here at base, but snow falling higher up on the mountain. Yes, there's some cm on the ground and I see Kumanoyu are reporting 5-10cm of fresh this morning. And it is snowing right now. Visibility generally poor this morning. Tomorrow the forecast tells us to expect sunshine and clear skies... should be a good day. Nishitateyama, Hasuike and Kidoike areas are now closed with a few more closing for the season at the end of tomorrow. Still, most areas remain open for the weekend and there's definitely no shortage of snow! It sounds like fairly strong winds continued overnight. This morning there's lots of cloud around and rather limited visibility in some places by the looks of some of the webcams. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Ah, the last day of March. Still hard to accept and conditions out there just don't feel like that - which is of course a good thing. Let's hope it is a good 'end of season' last three days. Today has started with a lot of cloud (especially covering the top areas of the mountain), and cloud is generally what we are expecting today with a good chance of sunny conditions for the weekend. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Naeba everybody. Today is going to be a hot one with absolutely spectacular weather. Things will most likely get a little slushy later on but right now the snow is in pretty good condition thanks in part to the 5 cm of fresh snow we have received overnight. Looking on we currently have a little rain and then snow predicted for tomorrow night then a little rain predicted again for Saturday. Sunday the 2nd April will be the last day of normal operation in Naeba this season and that day is currently looking like it could be spectacularly good weather. Tidy!
