big-will 7
I get this quite a lot in Windows XP. At the bottom right theres a lil message telling me theres some Windows update. I never know whether I should/shoudln't. Are they all ok to download or is it possible some shithead is impersonating MS. Cheers
Ocean11 0
Yes, you would be wise to update. So far I have not heard of anybody hijacking that function. Most of the updates are for critical system vulnerabilities...
rach 1
I'm a bit lost with them too. Clicking on the explanation don't help much either unless your a computer geekoid.
frannyo 2
Do you understand them all Ocean11. Sometimes Ive clicked on the link to read about it and I havent got a clue what its going on about. As per what rach is saying.
slow 0
You should update it. I updated this morning and it took only 10 minutes or so. It's much safer.
frannyo 2
But do you know exactly what and why you updated, slow?
2pints-mate 0
We all trust Microsoft. (Of course!)
Ocean11 0
Microsoft has a Windows update page that is remarkably clear and easy to understand. The content of the update page is what gets automatically installed on your computer, if you have the function activated. Some of it is simple functional upgrades to media player or whatever and some of it is critical security patches to Explorer or other system elements. If it's a big problem, it's often mentioned right on the front page of the MS site and in Yahoo news. You don't have to be able to understand Japanese - just look at the US site. The content is the same. One of my clients also sends me hysterical emails asking me to update for the security issues. These usually come about 3 days after I updated automatically. KlingKlang 1
The man is right. Check the English site. Or even better (maybe) - just click on yes and get it over with.

green 0
How often do you get those things? I seem to get one a week (although it might be that I'm not OKing some of them so its sometimes the same one)
fukdane 2
I think you're just forgetting to click on yes, so it just keeps reminding you. I don't have more than one a month.
rach 1
I took a look and things make a bit more sense now, even for a non geekoidette like me.
