yamayamayama 2
Stoopid question maybe but I want to know anyway. Does a resort that is north facing get/retain more snow because it's facing it head on? Or do things just not work like that?
mattlucas 0
North facing resorts will have better snow in the winter but less direct sunshine
Fattwins 0
in the northern hem yes but in the southern hem it is the other way around.
yamayamayama 2
So do clever resort developers take this into account when making their resort?
Ezorisu 0
Wouldn't it be advantageous to have South-facing slopes in the fall and spring? That way although the "snow" would re-freeze every night, it would tend to soften during the day and become somewhat more ridable. I remember the North-facing side of the Lake Louise back bowl staying concrete-hard all day last fall, but the south-facing resort front-end being fairly nice by 10-ish. Fattwins 0
they do try to put in a mix. the north facing stuff can sometimes get or stay icy in the spring longer.

muikabochi 208
I suppose places like Naeba are facing south then. I know Iwappara in this region is facing south. Interesting hadn't thought of that.
sanjo 2
Naeba will be facing south - it's facing Gunma direction.
